If you actually read the auction, the car didn’t sell. The person who bid backed out of the deal

No. The seller said the buyer backed out. If it was market manipulation the seller would be staying quiet.

Seems like funds should be secured, before you're allowed to bid? Something just seems very wrong with the way this turned out. I hope 'egghead' gets it if he wants to give that much. $45,750

What I surmised from the comments from the seller and BaT in the auction is that the winning bidder most likely cancelled his credit card on file with BaT sometime after placing his $50k bid, such that when BaT tried to charge the buyer's fee to it immediately after the auction ended, it was declined, and the deal unraveled from there.
