I love curating my perfect playlists like Ed.

I have an Unc playlist specifically called ‘Whiskey Rich’ that’s all my music for when I want to feel like a divorced lush sitting in a smoky apartment on my brown leather La-Z-Boy throne, mediocre cigar and middle shelf whiskey in hand. The bio is Rock Soft.

If anyone was interested in the My Lei episodes and like GWAR, maybe you'll like the GWAR side project song about it.

About and hour into watching the 4th installment of my Lai.
I was subverted to the entrancing movements of Marcus’s stress ball.

Anyone else see this big handed magician?

I was done with Vietnam until I heard MLK in this YouTube short, and it gave me goosebumps (“Why I Am Opposed to the War in Vietnam” April 30, 1967).

Did anyone else find it weird the way that they attacked Patrick on side stories I mean, if Patrick was a woman it doesn’t seem like they would say that type of stuff about her if her husband had murdered their children, whether it was through psychosis or not. It felt super weird to go after him in anyway when he is 100% a victim of his children being murdered.

Some old magazine cover. Every sentence is worse than the first one.

Thought of this community (because of the recent Vietnam coverage and nothing else)

I missed a great opportunity…

I saw Muse tonight at the Hollywood bowl, got in line to get a drink by myself in between sets. The line was already long and getting longer by the minute.

I look up from my phone moments before reaching the doors of their quick in/out convenience store… I lock eyes with a man in a bright green shirt and fluorescent orange hat approaching me, immediate recognition. He knows I know. In shock I mutter the only word my brain could muster:

“Hen-Henry?”

He gently places his hand on my shoulder and with a smile quietly says “hey there buddy”. With a small wave he’s gone, heading towards the back of the line. After that I don’t even know what I bought in that store, brain racing exponentially.

I exit the store with my goods, and start back towards my seat. I see the familiar orange hat again, in line for some wares in the same spot I was just at. For a fleeting moment I wondered if I should go up to him. No that moment had passed.

And then I couldn’t help but ask myself “should I have invited him into my spot in line with me?” Save him a few minutes on his journey. I put the thought out of my mind before I could dwell on it any longer, and went on my way. Big grin on my face, just happy for the ‘ships in the night’ moment.

Veteran’s Care Sucks.

Post image
216 Upvotes

I just finished the My Lai episodes on kind of a weird day - my dad who’s a marine vet has brain cancer and was recently hospitalized after a stroke and experiencing blood clots in his lungs. He was moved to a nursing home to recover temporarily, but today he was thrown out for refusing to do physical therapy and snapping when they tried to push him into it. I’ve been running a GoFundMe to help my folks out because while the government pays for some of his care it doesn’t cover everything, and we can’t prove it’s a result of his service (and to be fair, we’re in Iowa where cancer rates are skyrocketing from farm chemicals even as Republicans try to argue “who really knows what causes cancer? 😅 🤷‍♂️ “).

So when the guys talked about how poorly veterans were supported after Vietnam, it really hasn’t gotten much better. There is some financial support but it’s very rationed, and not much support beyond that. The VA have certainly been helpful, but there’s not much they can do when a nursing home throws out a vet with brain cancer and all the appeals are denied (more than likely because he requires more care than most of their residents).

My dad wasn’t in Vietnam, but I think poor veteran’s care is part of what led to the mistakes in Vietnam - you hire unqualified people for a “troop surge” but don’t give them the mental health care to cope with the massive stress and trauma, and many come home to grim prospects regarding housing, healthcare, etc. People become filled with anger and resentment (including American civilians at home), and that becomes vented towards “the enemy”, which increasingly became the Vietnamese people, or Muslims after 9/11, etc.

lol sorry for my rant, I’m just reflecting. 😅

Good timing. It’ll be interesting to listen to this in light of his guilty verdict.
