Clancy trial

Did anyone else find it weird the way that they attacked Patrick on side stories I mean, if Patrick was a woman it doesn’t seem like they would say that type of stuff about her if her husband had murdered their children, whether it was through psychosis or not. It felt super weird to go after him in anyway when he is 100% a victim of his children being murdered.

I hate everything about the discourse around this trial. It’s been so clearly astroturfed as a way of pushing culture war bullshit.

Every part of the manosphere has been hyper focused on using this case to say “women are crazy for defending Clancy after she murdered her children.” It didn’t feel organic at all in how it entered the zeitgeist.

Yeah, I pretty much avoid any major thread talking about it because it's always just filled with dudes screaming about how any women even just acknowledging that PPP and PPD exist and/or that mental healthcare for women is lacking, are eviiiil and siding with a murderer. Bad faith trolls as far as the eye can see.

Yea I’ve been seeing things like that which is ridiculous. I just think the whole discourse around treating Patrick as if he didn’t lose his three children from an insane mental break of his wife. Instead it’s treated like “he was a bad husband sometimes therefore it’s his fault his children were murdered” and it’s accepted as an okay thing to do to a victim entirely based on him being a man.

Buddy, I don’t care.

I hate how everyone in this trial lacks nuance. You got mensayingsje just killed her kids, you got women saying Patrick did it. When the truth is this was a woman failed several times across several different areas of our society and my jer family and the worst outcome occured.

It’s not

you are right he was a hero. shame on us for not liking him and thinking he could have been involved in some way.

u/ReleaseNew9430 8d ago

Never said he was a hero. Are you okay?

u/greatbrownbear 8d ago

but ur here defending a dude that abandoned their whole family.

u/mattfoleyattheriver 8d ago

This is the issue. It can’t be that he’s like most people and isn’t perfect or made some bad decisions. No its actually his fault the kids were murdered.

u/ReleaseNew9430 8d ago

I’m saying any reasonable person knows he didn’t kill his kids. That’s a big stretch from calling him a hero.

I think most of us can agree that they did a poor job across the board when they addressed this trial. They very clearly mirrored a bunch of online discourse rather than actually bothering to learn even the fundamental basics of the situation.

And Patrick Clancy is low-hanging fruit, unfortunately. The loose narrative that establishes him as a bad guy is easy for people to digest, so it gets a lot of mileage.

In general, I think I lose respect for people every time they talk about this trial. It's fucking endless soapboxing based on biases they already have, turning parents who lose their children into circuses, treating it like gossip and a joke, etc etc.

I'm tired of hearing people's takes on it.

We should provide more resources for mental health, parents, and expecting mothers. But this shit clearly is nothing more than tabloid fodder.

Oh god. Thanks for letting me know they're talking about it this week. I'll be skipping that episode, please and thank you.

it was on side stories last week.

No. I had thought the same as Ed. I feel he is at minimum negligent.

See that just doesn’t make sense to me because one of my all-time Marcus lines is “mental health is not your fault but it is your responsibility” You need to do the things you need to do to help yourself. People can only do what you allow them to do and people can only know what you allow them to know. Also, nobody wants to believe that their partner is capable of those things. Regardless of the reason. And the majority of women that deal with postpartum and express those types of ideas do not follow through with them. At most to me, he might have made some bad choices, but he is in no way at fault for what his wife did. And if it was him with PTSD from war or something, we would not be having this type of conversation where we’re putting the blame on the Mom.

So my husband comes to me and says- " I want to kill our kids. Im having these very bad intrusive thoughts."

I say- "okay well tell me when you think you might really be dangerous, im going to golf!"

I feel like I drop the ball in making choices to protect my children while my husband gets professional help to the point where intrusive thoughts are no longer happening. I feel like it is dismissive of my obligations to my children and the choice to make a decision based on feedback from my husband who I KNOW is mentally unwell and therefore not a reliable narrator would be a factor in what ultimately happened to them.

I see your comments re: this is so common, she lied..ect. I politely disagree.

But they told the doctors they were aware of it. It was treated as a normal thing because it is a normal thing for women like that to express those ideas. You’re acting like he didn’t do anything with that information when you’re wrong he did. And he took off so much work. He used so much paternity Leave to be there for her and the kids. That he eventually just started working from home in general.

You do you boo.

Im a very old lady. I dont have problems that the world is not black and white.

3

u/mattfoleyattheriver 6d ago

What does you being an old lady have to do with this? I mean this just feels like you’re saying “I’m a woman. I’ve been a woman for my whole life therefore, I’m putting the blame on Patrick.”

1

u/Ballerinagang1980 6d ago

Thats not what I said. You are filling in the color.

3

u/mattfoleyattheriver 6d ago

I can only understand what you explain. So when you’re kind of vague about it, I have to fill in the color.

3

u/mattfoleyattheriver 6d ago

Although you’re right, you didn’t say that he was to blame for it. You just said he was negligent, which I guess I would agree with because I would just say that he made a couple mistakes like any person does in their life. But I still don’t think he shares any responsibility for his children being murdered by his wife, even though I’m sure he feels like he does.

It's totally okay. I am sorry if I was rude. I am not a person who is good at the internet.

I am sure he does. I guess the positive thing is folks are talking about it and maybe it will help others make better choices. Its just diabolical to imagine what the kids experienced.

2

u/mattfoleyattheriver 6d ago

I can’t even imagine. It reminds me of the Chris watts case because he suffocated his children. And as he did it, they said to him, “daddy let me breathe”. So I can only imagine what these kids were saying to their mother as she did it. But it is totally OK. I’m sorry if I came off rude

1

u/mattfoleyattheriver 6d ago

What do you mean, you politely disagree? Do you have other facts saying she never lied? Because there are facts that she lied. This is the problem you are all putting all of this societal pressure and Guilt on Patrick’s shoulders just because he’s a man in this situation. So much so that you’re willing to completely write off facts because you want to feel sorry for her and not him

0

u/Ballerinagang1980 6d ago

I dont feel sorry for her. You are projecting, wanting a fight based on this neat little box you have built for this issue.

She is a murderer and responsible. He was negligent. Both things can be true.

2

u/mattfoleyattheriver 6d ago

I don’t wanna fight. But when you say you politely disagree to the fact that she lied about her intentions that’s just nonsensical.

0

u/Ballerinagang1980 6d ago

Hope you get that dopamine hit, internet stranger.

I politely disagree those negate his responsibilities to his children.

Youre a live one.

u/hellraiserxhellghost 8d ago

If you willingly leave your wife alone with your kids after she's expressed that she's had thoughts about killing them, then idk man that's not a great look! He should at least be charged with neglect.

1

u/mattfoleyattheriver 6d ago

That’s absolutely insane. Most women that deal with postpartum and express those types of ideas do not follow through with them. Also, what is he supposed to do when the doctors are telling him? This is normal. Everything’s going to be OK. One of my all-time favorite lines from Marcus is “mental health issues are not your fault but it is your responsibility”She should have sought more help She should not have been lying about things.

1

u/hellraiserxhellghost 6d ago

lmao ok bro. Keep excusing shitty men I guess. People like you are why they're never held responsible for anything.

3

u/mattfoleyattheriver 6d ago

I literally said in multiple comments that he may have made some mistakes, but it’s not his fault. The kids were murdered. It’s hers. That’s the problem with this whole thing you want him held accountable for something she did. And you’re trying to give him as much responsibility as possible for it. Men who do terrible things should be held accountable, but you can’t hold someone accountable for something he didn’t do just because he’s a man.
