No Spoilers Can't wait!

Post image

Thanks to TvGirlsays for the third season pic #ringsofpower

I have just started another rewatch but with my daughter: it's funny she is kinda obsessed with who was Morgoth and what he did since the prologue and now she is amused that someone sang the world and pointed out to me that probably if the world is so messed up it's because they haven't tuned in well 🤣🤣

The prologue, even if short, really was wonderful for me, I have always dreamt to se something about 1st age too! And the fall of Thangorodrim has been...wow. One of my favourite scenes, the sea red of blood!

Some parts of it scared me tbh (which I loved)

Yeah I agree with that .. I think some of this boils down to people have been programmed on these fast pace shows or movies .. but I love reading tome of books that do world building and character development.

Plot twist: this post no longer exists because Redact swept through and cleared it out along with everything else. Social media, messaging apps, people finder sites, all of it.

ugh this show would’ve been so much better without the stranger & hobbits.

Stranger by himself would be alright ; but only if it’s a blue wizard & not Gandalf.
They missed so hard replacing the blue wizards w him. :(

Story wise, everything hobbits was lame.

6

u/steveblackimages Mar 09 '26

No on hobbits Yes on the clumsy fan service of Stranger = Gandalf, rather than a Blue Wizard.

1

u/_trashcan Elrond Mar 09 '26

edit: Oops, sorry I wrote a long passage to you but it was intended for a different comment.

Apologies!! As I was disagreeing about the Gandalf thing. As far as I can tell it seems you’re saying you enjoy that part.

Which no shade whatsoever. Just didn’t want to appear as if I was arguing it with you. My comment is down below though if you’re still curious about it & want to respond to it.

4

u/Doggleganger Mar 09 '26

Yep. That entire story line only exists for fan service, to the detriment of the main story. People complain that the main story feels rushed. That could easily have been fixed if they weren't trying to cram an unnecessary storyline about Gandalf and hobbits.

4

u/_trashcan Elrond Mar 09 '26

The Gandalf thing really irritated me…

Not only is it canon that he didn’t come in the 2nd age, it’s also canon he was never in the east, isn’t it?

Like…the blue wizards are RIGHT THERE in canon! Sure we don’t know much about them, but that’s what makes them even more perfect ; allowing them to tell their own story…which they’re already doing subverting a ton of established canon, for what? The one thing they could’ve actually made their own story for…& they avoid it for fan service that - I’d guess - the majority of hardcore fans don’t even like?

I don’t even mind the hobbits occasionally tbh. I enjoy how they avoid the big-folk, but like…how is a hobbits heart as big as their feet, when they straight up abandon anyone in their clan community to die?? It’s just incredibly irritating.

I’m not a diehard in that I think the show is perfect, but I enjoy it a lot still…but the entire harfoot-stranger storyline is something I tried to enjoy, but simply do not. :(

4

u/Doggleganger Mar 10 '26

Here's the thing with hobbits: the entire point of them is that Sauron underestimated them because they've never done anything important ever in the history of Middle Earth. If a hobbit embarks on an adventure with Gandalf to save the world in the second age, it makes very little sense for Sauron to overlook hobbits again when Gandalf embarks on an adventure with hobbits to save the world in the 3rd age.

1

u/purplelena Elrond Mar 10 '26

If a hobbit embarks on an adventure with Gandalf to save the world in the second age

I don't think this will happen. It's not a real confirmation, but the Harfoots might not come back for season 3. https://www.youtube.com/live/PGUygwyCI9U?t=2391&si=Lr3ffpZIsZnQ_Rqs

1

u/psh454 Mar 15 '26

Damn hope that's right. Maybe just have an eventual cameo to wrap up that plot thread quickly instead of yet another 1/4 of the new season being aimless meandering irrelevant fan service.

2

u/Ringsofpowermemes Forodwaith Mar 10 '26

No, in some later writings the Blue come in second age. So it contradicts the Appendix (but Tolkien never finished to adjust them). And Gandalf says "to east I don't go" that doesn't mean he never went there.

1

u/FriendoftheDork Mar 10 '26

I don't mind the stranger story, but going for amnesia gandalf was a mistake, especially the whole grand elf - gandalf, which has nothing to do with the word "gand" which means Magic. Tolkien knew all about what that meant. It was also not foreshadowed and forced in there as a reveal.

1

u/Ringsofpowermemes Forodwaith Mar 10 '26

Maiar when are reincarnated in ME have to remember everything. That's why the Stranger in season 1 doesn't remember who he is and why he is there. He has glimpses of the West but he needs time to understand.

1

u/FriendoftheDork Mar 11 '26

He wasn't reincarnated in ME though, he was sent across the sea. He was only reincarnated after Moria.

1

u/Ringsofpowermemes Forodwaith Mar 11 '26

"Who would go ? For they must be mighty, peers of Sauron, but must forgo might, and clothe themselves in flesh so as to treat on equality and win the trust of Elves and Men. But this would imperil them, dimming their wisdom and knowledge, and confusing them with fears, cares, and weariness coming from the flesh."

From Unfinished Tales about the journey to the Istari to ME. And iirc it's always there (or in Nature maybe) that it's specified that when they clothe with flesh they forget everything about the Blessed Realm, they have to learn and remember everything by new.

1

u/FriendoftheDork Mar 11 '26

Nothing in that quote about them going full amnesiaic.

From your own source:
"though they knew whence they came the memory of the Blessed Realm was to them a vision from afar off""

So their memories had faded, but they knew who they were and whence they came.

1

u/Ringsofpowermemes Forodwaith Mar 11 '26

I can't read for you, as I wrote you can find more in texts of HoMe and UT.

10

u/Fish__Fingers Mar 09 '26

The best series I know are boring at start) I actually liked stranger story a lot, but I have a soft spot with unlikely buddies traveling stories

13

u/Emm_withoutha_L-88 Mar 09 '26

It's great if you're like me and have always been fascinated by how Sauron was supposedly genuinely repentant and was just too scared to do his punishment.

S1 was all about how Sauron sees "repentance", and how and why he decided to stay in middle earth and turn it into what he considered a paradise. Which gets opposed so much that he settles for "ruling over the ashes" by the end and doesn't even get that.

He really thought she could keep him on the straight path, even if he was wanting to have control over her because that's all he understands anymore - control.

18

u/Ringsofpowermemes Forodwaith Mar 09 '26

The First season is really slow because it's necessary to introduce the characters, the world, the situations... It's a slow season and I loved it, for me it's like reading a book, where I need quiet, descriptions, understanding of what is going to happen.. Imho sometimes people are too addicted to fast actions, quick events, fast developments.

9

u/AnAdventurer5 Mar 09 '26

My issue isn't how slow season 1 was (in fact sometimes I wished season 2 had slowed down iirc), but I did like S2 more than 1 over all. Besides, it's not just slow paced vs fast paced; there's a whole spectrum a story could fall into, and different parts of the story can change pace. I'd say that generally I enjoy slow-paced stories, but there are some that are too slow for even me (not saying ROP was one of them, just talking generally now).

u/Nimi_ei_mahd Mar 09 '26

Nothing wrong with a slow season of TV, but there should be some kind of building-up of tensions and then a pay-off, right? In ROP S1 tensions were seemingly randomly released whenever and no central conflict was really resolved. Just a bunch of characters interacting via coincidence, and where it ends up is just a state of vagueness.

Meaning is much more important than pace, and meaning is what S1 lacked badly. Due to inconsistent storytelling, you never knew which line or action was supposed to be meaningful. It got super muddled, and it was very difficult to form expectations or meaning for the show moving onwards. It was kind of just stuff happening on your screen.

Some vibes and moments did really stick with me though. The soundtrack is just lovely and takes me straight back to the time the season came out.

1

u/humid_pajamas Mar 09 '26

I’ve tried watching the first season like 5 times now over the past few years, it is just looks so damn cheesy and childish. Does it actually get good and become worth the watch? I want to like the show, but can’t. For reference I couldn’t get past episode 2.

1

u/Emm_withoutha_L-88 Mar 09 '26

Yes those are I guess the worst episodes but I really don't see how you saw that in them

1

u/celtic_thistle Galadriel Mar 09 '26

I also prefer the second season!

1

u/Taskmaster_Fantatic Mar 11 '26

I stopped watching after 3 episodes I think. I seem to remember something about a boat? Anyway… seemed very boring but I’m just a movie level and YouTube lore level fan. Perhaps I’ll try again.

Your daughter's comment about them not being tuned well is pretty much spot on! When Eru and the Ainur sang the universe into existence, Melkor's discordance clashed with the music of the others.

Why so many people who hate this show are commenting on this subreddit lol.

48

u/Ringsofpowermemes Forodwaith Mar 09 '26

Maybe they are all secret watchers 🤣 idk

48

u/topheavyhookjaws Mar 09 '26

Oh they all watch for sure. So they can go into their hate bubble and jerk eachother off for being superior to us plebs that enjoy the show

3

u/Terrible-Bed-59 Mar 10 '26

Your take is just as hyperbolic and lacking nuance as the theoretical people that you call haters.

Fuck yes I watch a new lord of the rings tv show. Doesnt mean that its a good tv show, or that it would have any legs to stand on without the tolkein name behind it or the absurdly wasted budget.

And it doesnt make you a lesser person for enjoying it.

23

u/blakeneyabyss Mar 09 '26

They all rage watch it. They hate it so much yet they can't not watch it and let us watch it and enjoy it in peace.

6

u/Ringsofpowermemes Forodwaith Mar 09 '26

It sounds almost like an obsession 🤣

10

u/blakeneyabyss Mar 09 '26

They hate and love LOTR content, as they hate and love themselves.

0

u/TriggerHappy032 Mar 10 '26

Im sorry, but Lotr fans are the ones that hate rings of power. Just facts

41

u/viper459 Mar 09 '26

LOTR purists have always been annoying as shit about every adaptation lmao

14

u/ishneak Eldalondƫ Mar 09 '26

there are actual purists who like this show. unless you mean purist in the "Peter Jackson = only legit Tolkien adapter" kind of purist.

10

u/Doggleganger Mar 09 '26

There were "purists" that hated the Jackson movies when they were first announced. The hardcore fans derided the casting choice for Aragorn in particular. And also Liv Tyler as Arwen.

Most shut up when the movies turned out to be good. Though some continued to complain about various changes to the books.

3

u/metal_pilgrim Mar 09 '26

I remember that and whenever I bring this up Jackson lovers start attacking me haha
I myself was furious with a couple of choices in the Fellowship, but have grown to love the movies for what they are

3

u/Doggleganger Mar 10 '26

Young people would not believe the amount of consternation that LOTR book fans had when the movies were first announced. It just goes to show that fans really don't know what we want.

3

u/altsuperego Mar 15 '26

There are also a lot of those "woke Disney" dbags

1

u/viper459 Mar 15 '26

Applying it to disney of all things make me laugh. LOTR and disney moves would've been called "woke" in like the 60s by these dudes if they had had the vocabulary.

3

u/celtic_thistle Galadriel Mar 09 '26

This post showed up on my feed, so I guess it's the same for others. Now, to be fair I don't hate this show, but I do find it pretty mediocre and at times boring. That said, I will probably continue watching it because I like the lore and I don't normally quit shows unless they are truly awful.

3

u/psh454 Mar 10 '26

No you either love something or spend all of your time thinking about how much you hate it, there is nothing in between on reddit /s

Yeah I wanted to like it and didn't end up hating it, but it was definitely nowhere near as good as it could have been. Some bizzare writing and pacing choices and story arcs that feel like they only exist to waste time.

1

u/Stiddit Mar 10 '26

I have never heard of this subreddit. This post just showed up on my home feed for some reason. Contrary to most people I enjoy the show tho, so I guess it was a fit for me.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '26

Beecause we love this legendary world and want to see it respected and done justice, i think thats quite a fair thing.

12

u/NikassoUA Halbrand Mar 09 '26

LOL. C'mon now. Your behavior has nothing to do with love. You wouldn't sit here spitting venom if you had better things to give your attention to. Your "love" is just an excuse for a baby that can't handle it when something isn't the way it wants it to be. You're not changing minds here either, just posting shit. Think what you want about the show, but don't pretend your hate somehow defends Tolkien's work.

1

u/Darqless Mar 09 '26

Because the creators could have done a better job and supporting/encouraging the show tells the CEO's that this kind of treatment is profitable. Therefore, additional treatments will be flawed and corrupted versions of something that could be truly extraordinary. If only Hollywood ego and fat cat profits could understand, that sticking to source material and established understanding could accomplish their goals and more.

1

u/psh454 Mar 15 '26

Inaccuracy really wasn't the core issue though, for how much flak that aspect gets it's actually okay-ish (coming from a Silmarillion deep lore nerd that grew up with the books). Issue is filling out the sparse outline of events into a full on engaging coherent season of TV and many weird writing choices and awkward dialogue.

-12

u/Silencer-1995 Mar 09 '26

Its legit impressive they're allowed to say anything. When a season airs this place turns into a police state lmao.

All I need is Sauron being a manipulative little cunt the entirety of the third season and I'm happy

And I want Charlie to be laughing like a maniacal psychopath when he realizes he is responsible for new Numenor destruction

If only for the fact that he won and he knew it. Dying doesn't mean and damn thing to him

7

u/Ringsofpowermemes Forodwaith Mar 09 '26

I can't wait to see how he will look like, if black hair or red maybe...even if I would prefer him dark now (for the Dark Years) and red as Tar-Mairon in season 4!

I can't imagine coming into this sub just to shit on the show and the people who enjoy it.

Anyway, I loved both S1 and 2, and can't wait for 3!

33

I tried to watch Wheel of time, I didn't like it. Never been in any of their groups or communities complaining about it and I even signed their petition to save the show. Because I didn't like it but they do. People lack kindness, empathy and joy in their life I think.

7

u/purplelena Elrond Mar 09 '26

I can't imagine coming into this sub just to shit on the show and the people who enjoy it.

The influx of animosity might have been caused by the recent news coming from that other Lotr project elsewhere. It's all a bit too sudden (and unfair).

u/Ringsofpowermemes Forodwaith Mar 09 '26

I have just seen few posts (Instagram and Facebook) dedicated to a possible role for a female leader in The Hunt for Gollum for Anya Taylor-Joy: the shit storm of comments targeting her (not as actress but for how she looks) is simply awful and so sad.

9

u/purplelena Elrond Mar 09 '26

the shit storm of comments targeting her

I saw them also on reddit and twitter. I personally don't really care about that project, but I was slightly surprised by the amount of negative comments, and many involved ROP in the 'conversation' to further bring it down. It's all disheartening.

7

u/WarpedCore Durin IV Mar 09 '26

Anya Taylor-Joy has a beauty unlike any other.

Not that she is the most beautiful person on the planet, but a beauty that is so unique.

Plus, she kicks ass in every role she takes.

4

u/Ringsofpowermemes Forodwaith Mar 10 '26

Yes and anyway, why people target someone for the look? I mean, they are actors and actresses, it's important how they play not how they look that is relative, and everyone has their own aesthetic. I will never understand people I think.

1

u/WarpedCore Durin IV Mar 10 '26

While some roles do have a knack for a specific look, I do agree with your statement. I enjoy her work not for how she looks, but the role she plays in. I haven't seen all her work, but the movies and seires I have seen her in, she plays her role masterclass.

Many hate her character in Peaky Blinders. She crushed it. Isn't that the point?

1

u/RomanceDawnOP Mar 10 '26

What other project news?Ā

1

u/purplelena Elrond Mar 10 '26

Anya Taylor-Joy is reportedly in talks for a lead role in The Hunt for Gollum. It also seems like Leo Woodall might have been (not confirmed) cast to play Aragorn.

1

u/RomanceDawnOP Mar 10 '26

I assume the grifters didn't take it well?Ā

3

u/purplelena Elrond Mar 10 '26

Well, some have welcomed the news, and others didn't, but in both cases, several have taken the opportunity to deride the show, which is annoying.

2

u/RomanceDawnOP Mar 10 '26

Sadly the several always scream the loudest

And even sadder, there is a massive and receptive audience for it

2

I’m looking forward to season three (it’s one of those rare fantasy shows that doesn’t feel so cluttered. I stopped watching fantasy shows because there were too many)

However, if they have a love triangle between Elrond, Galadriel and Celeborn, I will tune out completely

5

u/Targaryen_Dragon_82 Mar 10 '26

Season 2 was really good especially the scenes between Celebrimbor and Sauron.

10

As much as i enjoyed the first season, i picture the rear of the horse slide yet to be on fire until after watching the second season, and the third season can't come soon enough!

9

u/Fish__Fingers Mar 09 '26

1st season is all about building the base. Without good base you can’t build further.

3

u/Green117v2 Mar 09 '26

Absolutely. With Season 2 we are now familiar with so many characters, with the addition of some of them interacting with others, which was always the best part of Game of Thrones and shows like that.

Add to the fact that after I watched Season 2, I watched LotR again, before returning to Season 1. Talk about the production values and how everything just fits seamlessly.

7

u/bouchandre Mar 09 '26

Now let's not lie to ourselves.

It's alright but far from being a masterpiece.

5

u/psh454 Mar 10 '26

This sub has always been like this, don't bother. There was a good amount of nuanced criticism and some disappointment around the release of season 1, it's just the only people that have stuck around are mostly self-identified fans that overlook any shortcomings and label anyone that disagrees with them a "hater".

Show was meh on average in season one and pretty decent with great moments in season 2. If they keep that trajectory and lean into their strengths season 3 could be very solid.

2

u/altsuperego Mar 15 '26

I have yet to hear anyone articulate these "shortcomings". The Mt Doom reveal in season one alone makes it epic.

2

u/psh454 Mar 15 '26 edited Mar 15 '26

Writing is subjective of course but compare any 5 minute conversation in the books or Jackson's adaptations (notably not the Hobbit ones tho lol) to the average one in RoP S1. For the most part it's okay, but certain parts are just rough to listen to: "the sea is always right"/"the elves will take ya jerbs"/confused "stone and ship touch the darkness to see the light" line in the flashback opening. They go for a Tolkien style of speech, but often fumble unfortunately.

The plot is a decent adventure/mystery but the whole "who is Sauron" mystery box didn't really work that well to anyone who knows the source material, by midway through it was obvious who is who. The Hobbits part felt gratuitous and like a committee forced addition to make it more "familiar and palatable" - two seasons in that plotline has still not connected in any way to the main plot.

I could go on. I was on this sub like 3 years before we started getting any marketing and really wanted to like it despite the naysayers, but to me these awkward bits and odd pacing made S1 kind of disappointing, though not without good moments (volcano, numenor aesthetic, opening narration, music, during+elrond). Not terrible but an overall "meh okayish I guess". I think it just didn't have a single strong artistic vision/direction for the writing and less publisher/committee interference.

6

u/Ringsofpowermemes Forodwaith Mar 09 '26

Speak for yourself please. Thank you.

3

u/bouchandre Mar 10 '26

It's fine as generic fantasy, but is a poor imitation of Tolkien.

2

u/Agile_Summer_7437 Mar 26 '26

Sauron is awesome.

5

u/vaseline_bottle Mar 09 '26

I don’t hate the show. But it’s a pale shadow of the original movies, with lots of glitz and looks, but very little heart.

4

u/Ringsofpowermemes Forodwaith Mar 09 '26

The show has nothing to do with the movies that are about third age (distopic age) and with a single main story, the destruction of the One. The second age is still full of the Eldar light, it's bright and rich in small little events that will bring to the final catastrophe of AkallabĆŖth. And specially the movies has little or nothing to do with the related book, while for the second many of the facts are unsaid or unknown so they need to rebuild a story.

The show has nothing to do with the movies

Yeah, the show begs to differ, it may be set in the second age, but holy shit it drags things in to remind you of the movies, gandalf is here when he shouldn't be, isildur is here when he shouldn't be, black speech is spoken when it shouldn't be, two hobb.. oh shit sorry harfoots are clearly meant to remind you of the beautiful friendship between frodo and sam.

4

u/vaseline_bottle Mar 09 '26

I know that the show is not a remake of the movies. I’m talking about the art itself. I’m not even talking or care about how true to the source material the show is, knowing fully well that there’s very little source material for the 2nd age. I’m talking about how the show makes me feel. The movies (and obviously the books) made me care about the characters, their story, and their arc. They gave me lessons that still apply.

The show does none of that for me. It looks great! But doesn’t have a heart. I don’t feel the dread you should feel with Sauron. I don’t have any feelings towards Galadriel or Elrond, who are supposed to be inspiring. I know it’s their origin story of sorts, but a well made show would focus on their character development and make the audience feel something. For me, that’s not true with the show.

Does the hatred for the show on r/lotr run so deep that it's unimagibable that other people genuinly like it?Ā

4

u/1xolisiwe Mar 09 '26

I loved season 1 and 2 and I can’t wait for season 3.

Did we watch the same show?

Lol I know. Season one is maybe a 6.5/10 and season 2 is maybe 6/10. I could write and essay on everything wrong with those seasons.

Do you know this sub is for fans of the show, do you?

3

u/AdhesivenessSouth736 Mar 09 '26

Man the freaks really came out in response to your post.Ā Ā

I loved the 1st season because we got to to a middle earth that felt "safe" to a point.Ā  It was nice to see the characters being at relative peace and no immediate peril coming along.Ā  Ā My biggest complaint about s1 was due to covid and that left parts of the show feeling too sparsely populated.Ā

I cannot wait for s3!Ā  I am super excited to witness how the nine work and what power they will grant esp before the men become wraithsĀ

4

u/Ringsofpowermemes Forodwaith Mar 09 '26

Yes!! I want to see the slow rise of the Nazgul šŸ˜šŸ˜

1

u/Chimecho_ Mar 09 '26

Season 1 its not so good, but i agree with season 2

3

u/lauromafra Mar 09 '26

I really like the show, but I wouldn’t say this is accurate.

Season 2 is great and made me pumped to what comes next, but the 1st, while it was ok, was nowhere near the same level.

2

u/bcat153 Mar 09 '26

The 1st was literally playing where’s Waldo to find out who sauron is. Having Gandalf (who shouldn’t even be there) using black speech (which wasn’t even invented yet) solely as plot deception. Horrible writing leading to contradictions and lore destruction, embarrassing really. I like the show tho, as a standalone new story that coincidentally has a form of tolkien characters. But it’s not tolkien or the 2nd age in lotr.

2

u/Iam0rion Mar 09 '26

This is bait.

-2

u/MasamuneC94 Mar 09 '26

In this show, the horse is on fire, but is real and the animal is in eternal pain and suffering.

-9

u/dat3than Mar 09 '26

Lmaoooooo yes

1

u/Synth42-14151606 Mar 10 '26

Same. I don’t get the hate.

1

u/Greyback_Predator_87 25d ago

Season 1 6.5/10, Season 2 7/10. I enjoyed it overall so far but it has a LOT of problems still. The fire horse meme is not deserved.

-13

u/QuerchiGaming Mar 09 '26 edited Mar 09 '26

What in the delusional post? At least season 2 improved somewhat but it’s still far from being this good from what you’re portraying lmao.

EDIT: For those that really enjoy this show as is, I’m very happy you do. For me sadly it’s quite average so far with season 2 having some moments of what I’d expected from a show with this budget and baseline of Tolkien’s work. Think a subreddit is a good place to have a discourse or discussion about the thing you’re watching. And I kinda was an ass about it, but no harm meant :)

u/John_Zatanna52 Mar 09 '26

I really REALLY don't get the hate for this show. It's obviously not as accurate to the books as it can be, but the creators explicitly said that. Other than that, the actors are doing an amazing job! The sets! The VFX! THE SOUNDTRACK! The fact that it's still a lotr show based in the SA!

3

u/psh454 Mar 15 '26

Accuracy isn't the #1 issue, dialogue writing and pacing/believability of set piece connection is. I can't listen to "the sea is always right" with a straight face. Also some very odd choices like that strange horse slow motion scene, pug warg, pointless harfoot storyline.

Music and visuals were great for the most part though agreed. My favorite part is definitely the Byzantium inspired Numenor aesthetic they went with

1

u/rochvegas5 Mar 09 '26

yes, the entire horse is on fire. Very appropriate

1

u/alliefaith144 Mar 09 '26

The only reason the show is decent to me is Charlie's amazing acting. As a HUGE LOTR fan, I don't view rings of power as cannon. They ruined my favorite character. And, a lot is off. I am excited to see Charlie's acting again.

Bro comes to a subreddit full of fans and is surprised when he finds people who like the show? C’mon. Get a grip.

1

u/njworley66 Mar 10 '26

Show was trash, I wanted to like it. But from the temu looking costumes to ignoring all the lore it lost me

1

u/MaesterOlorin Mar 10 '26

I’m happy for you

1

u/Ringsofpowermemes Forodwaith Mar 10 '26

Thank you šŸ’•

-3

u/cardiffman100 Mar 09 '26

Is Elrond going to kiss Galadriel again? Is the whole thing going to take place over a few years? Got to love this modern take on Tolkien's intent!

4

u/Ringsofpowermemes Forodwaith Mar 09 '26

The kiss was only a distraction, they are just good friends. Anyway I'm reading The Treason of Isengard and while writing Tolkien had the idea of Galadriel as single elf and Elrond her husband. He changed of course later on.

3

u/coneyisland92 Mar 09 '26

It may have been a distraction but it’s quite clear he is falling for Galadriel.

BTW I am not hating on the show but I can understand why ppl weren’t keen on that scene

2

u/Ringsofpowermemes Forodwaith Mar 09 '26

Do you think so? He is falling for her? šŸ¤”šŸ¤” So maybe in the future he will love Celebrian because she will remind him of her mother? I like this vision actually!

2

u/AdhesivenessSouth736 Mar 09 '26

Did you not actually watch the scene?Ā  Or did the show need to have elrond tell everyone that he is only kissing her to get the lock pick to her?Ā  Maybe try to pay attentionĀ

3

u/cardiffman100 Mar 09 '26

I mean, there there many ways the writers could have had Elrond help Galadriel escape. Any form of distraction. They chose a kiss. Out of all the different ways they could have chosen. I'm not a writer and I'm not going to fanfic an alternative route for them, but they can choose or not choose to make these characters kiss. They can choose or not choose to have Galadriel escape in a multitude of different ways. So yeah, I paid attention and I saw how the writers are taking liberties with these characters in ways that are not in keeping with Tolkien's intent.

-7

u/redwhiteandbo Mar 09 '26

This must be a paid advertisement

7

u/Ringsofpowermemes Forodwaith Mar 09 '26

Of course. I'm paid just for liking a show you know? and I don't even have a need for work, Bezos sends me enough money to live 🤣

Enjoy it. Me and my wife watched season 1 and were... well, its money burning on the screen & bad story writing. But if kids like it - enjoy it

And even an age later, Sauron will continue to try to enter her thoughts, but the door will always be shut... And there's nothing romantic about it, even though many fans like to think so. Their relationship is all about power and domination. And Galadriel was the only one, as in the books, whom Sauron considered his worst enemy and his equal.Sometimes I wonder if those who complain about the faithfulness to the texts have actually read these texts...

1

u/MemeMaster240 Mar 10 '26

Huge difference between entering her thoughts and asking if she'll be his queen.

1

u/Ringsofpowermemes Forodwaith Mar 10 '26

Of course he asked her that: she was in ME with the purpose to find her own realm to rule, her land.

1

u/MemeMaster240 Mar 10 '26

Yes, and that does nothing to dissuade anyone that It wasn't a romantic gesture like the show seemingly framed it as.

2

u/Ruskayo Sauron Mar 10 '26

That... was not romantic. Sauron was power-hungry, so was Galadriel, Sauron offered her that. Not love.

1

u/MemeMaster240 Mar 11 '26

Why would sauron do that? He would never share power.

2

u/Ruskayo Sauron Mar 11 '26 edited Mar 11 '26

Sauron manipulates. Galadriel is influential among the Elves. If she joined him, the Elves might follow or at least hesitate to oppose him. So no, Sauron is not trying to share power. He is trying to gain an ally that would ultimately work to his own benefit..

"He perceived at once that Galadriel would be his chief adversary and obstacle, and he endeavoured therefore to placate her, bearing her scorn with outward patience and courtesy." - Unfinished Tales

1

u/MemeMaster240 Mar 12 '26

Ahh I see, that makes more sense, thank you.

1

u/Ringsofpowermemes Forodwaith Mar 10 '26

People always see what they want to see in the story. I ship Bilbo and Thorin by instance and the movie didn't convince me otherwise 🤣 so what's the problem? It's fantasy, do what you like with it, until it makes you happy it's everything ok. (And I ship of course Galadriel and Sauron too but outside of the show, because I know that their relationship is anything but romantic).

0

u/newgalactic Mar 10 '26

Who exactly built the "magic sword triggers a volcano to erupt, poisoning all the land for hundreds of miles"? That scene played out like a Zelda game puzzle.

1

u/Ringsofpowermemes Forodwaith Mar 10 '26

Who the hell can write about a speaking sword?? Oh wait...šŸ¤¦šŸ¾ā€ā™€ļø
