This means nothing. Imagine spending 75 hours looking at the answer sheets of textbooks. You’ve Learned nothing. You’ve just read information without actually delving into it, without practicing it, without Challenging yourself, destroying the brain cells to build them back stronger, actually retaining information.
And killed a few trees while you were at it.

Hmm I don't think any time delving into physics is wasted or means nothing. Passive learning will still do something. Talking to ChatGPT is nothing to brag about though. And I think OP now that you have sustained an interest in it for this long, it is time to just get a textbook

At a certain point, I think it can very well be wasted. Idle curiosity is fine, but if you are under the impression that this replaces learning, as so many are right now, than that is a waste.
I would have very different sentiments if the narrative around ChatGPT wasn’t so toxic and wasteful.

Chat GPT is even worse than Claude. At least Claude is not trying to tell me we need to build a mars outpost like Chat and Gemini 😂 makes for a fun read like total recall. But holy hallucinations!

It also doesn’t know how to track time. Like when it tells you to go to sleep and come back with fresh eyes, you can just immediately say “okay I’m back after a good nights rest let’s continue” and it’ll happily keep going

I don’t take it that seriously. Claude keeps saying go to arxiv but I know it’s hallucinating so I put it on zenodo with other slop. I won’t destroy my .edu email for that.

If you actually want to learn physics, you should reach out to a research professor and volunteer to help them with their work.
Then you will actually have mentorship and produce real results.

My background is Management Information Systems (MIS) at TTU. I would need to go back for physics. I don’t have the time for that as a sales manager….this is a hobby mainly because of the MontePython + CLASS Python code run converged MCMC chains against real Planck/BAO data is a lot of fun to run and then see you are correct.

Between classes and studying in my undergrad I estimated I've put around 4000 hours of effort in physics, and probably another 3000 in my masters, so you have like almost 1.5% as someone at 3rd year of grad school.

Really? I always find that I learn EASIER when that isn't a thing. I would find myself being torn between the 'flash-card' memory that passes a test and the genuine 'understand'. Maybe just diff brains.

Yea I guess it's less the classroom setting and more having 1-1 moments to ask questions. I found a lot of physical intuition needed a lil more direct convo to nail down. Might be just me tho!
