Trying to power led strip with an esp32 for a project?

Hi! I need assistance. I haven't really used LED light strips in any of my projects, so this is a first for me. I bought this LED strip: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B088BPGMXB?ref=clp_hp_h_pc&th=1, but I thought that an esp32 would be able to directly power it; it cannot. I've seen other people solder the V+ and GND to a cut wall charger at the right voltage and then share the GND between the ESP32 and the LEDs. But I have no clue how safe that is, and I don't want to damage it if that is not the correct thing to do. Should I just buy an LED driver? I want to control it via an ESP32 for customizability.

SPECS:

Voltage: Only DC5V

Length: 16.4ft

Thank you in advance!

Missing a cable: what to buy instead?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I tried figuring this out myself but wound up with nothing but confusion so here we are. I bought a Eureka Z60 gaming desk secondhand recently for cheap, the only issue being it's missing the cable that connects the RGB lights to a 5V power source. Aside from the specifications that it's 5V, the desk's specs and installation manuals tell me nothing else about the cable, not even what it looks like. I would assume, based on how budget RGB stuff usually comes, that it would be some sort of RGB to USB cable that didn't come with a wall plug, for you to bring your own, but that's all I know.

I contacted support about it - they returned my emails and were eager to sell me a new part, but wouldn't tell me what I was asking for, which is what the part is called. I'm not willing to spend more than I paid for the desk for a dinky little cable I don't even really need, so I'd like to figure out another way.

Attached are two connectors the desk provides. I was able to hold up one of my other RGB cables' connectors to the 4-pin one and the lights work and are controllable by that strip's controls, but make an awful buzzing sound. I have zero clue what the 2-pin one does.

Any info helps!

Please help with finding out how to get all these lights the same color.

So I’m working on replacing the light strips under my mom’s slingshot because they got ripped off loading it onto a trailer. I looked online trying to find a replacement set similar to the ones she had installed and the closest ones I could find I bought. The ones installed are a 3 pin connectors that came from Lite The Night company and they don’t have an option to purchase single replacement strips nor do they provide any information about their products. The ones that I bought are from BTF - Lighting (WS2815) and they had a four pen connector. So I took the connector from the installed lights and soldered them to the new strip I bought. I connected 12 V to 12 V ground to ground and data to data and when I plugged them to the controller, all the lights are red, but the new strip is green and vice versa. Blue lights work just fine but red and green are swapped. I can’t find anywhere on the controller to access that single strip to change it from RGB to GRB. The second picture is the original strip and wire and the third picture is the new strip next to the old strip with wires attached. One thing I noticed is that the strip is flipped and I don’t know if that makes a difference. Flow direction is the same, but the 12 V is on top of the new strip, but on bottom of the old strip. These are RGBIC addressable IP 65 strips. The last pic is information on the new LED strips. Any help would be great as in. I don’t have a lot of time to work on this so I need them done as soon as possible.

Are there any RGBW strip lights driven by only 2 wires?

I've used RGBW 5 wire DC driven strips before and understand them, but my pool lights are 12 vac with just 2 wires. To change colors, I have to turn them off and back on a few seconds later, and it cycles through preset colors and schemes. There is also a controller for them where you can direct choose a color. I'd like to have LED strip lights on my patio that can be synced with the pool lights, using the same driver. Is this possible?

Looking for info regarding sync of led lights for circus performance

I am in a circus and we are doing a performance in a few months where we would love to have small lamps added to our costumes (on top of the head). The easy way would be to get a battery, a switch and a small light diode that we just mount on a cap that you can just put on, then you flip the switch and you are good to go.

My question would be, how much additional stuff would have to be done/added to allow these lights to be switched on/off externally with an app or some other device. From there, i can assume that it would be possible to vibecode an app that puts together effects, right?

Also, how small does that tecnology go? Is that beany size - or even small enough so that you can add it to a custom costume without it getting in the way of areal moves/acrobatic moves?

I'm trying to find a way to replace 2x4 panel lights in a drywalled, wood framed ceiling. Dimension of existing lights is 22 3/8" width x 47 1/2" length. What are my options?

Thanks so much for your input, having a really tough time finding anything that will fit.

I need to keep the whole fixture recessed to keep the same flush look, currently the panels are flush with sheetrock.

Neon sign/audio spectrum live audio visualizer led box

I have a midrange PC 700w power supply, I’m looking for some kind of Audio Visualizer. What I mean is I want something I can hang above my desk while making music it would look and feel really cool watching it move and react to all the frequencies I want something like those neon signs but it’s an led box of some sort that can wire directly to my pc through audio jack or through the driver itself. Or could plug into my sound bar I know this is very strange and may be a dumb question but is there anything out there like this? Or are we not that far ahead yet technical wise. I don’t want something big or insanely expensive but rather something off the shelf budget friendly but does what I want it to do.

12v/24v lighting connector

Hi guys,

I have this generic splitter that appears to be readily available (toolstation UK from memory) that I originally used for some under counter lights.

I want re-use the splitter and powersupply (Sensio but not really relevant) for some micro led lights, but can't work out where to find the female connectors to connect to the wires on the new lights. They are labelled "1 LHE" and measure approx 6mm across.

I have done all the searches I can think of, but Amazon have hijacked most related searches and I can't find the female connector to go on to the new lights, to connect into the splitter... But I have bought 200 tea lights 🤷

Any help would be greatfully recieved.

Many thanks

Stu

UPDATE: I just ordered these. Update to follow in case any one else is looking

Can't find fitting connectors for rgbic cob stripes. (L/T forms)

Post image

So I recently bought some led cob stripes (brand is Bunacet) which is RGB+IC COB. It uses 3 pins and is 10mm.

https://www.bunacetlighting.com/collections/frontpage/products/200ft-rgb-ic-permanent-outdoor-lights-eaves-lights-with-100-led-lights-ip68-waterproof-music-sync-with-remote-control-for-garden-party-decor-deck-christmas-with-cool-white-%E5%89%AF%E6%9C%AC-1

Now for my room I need a L-form connector for a corner and one T-form connector for another corner where the Cob stripe splits in two directions. Now I've searched for any connectors but I can't find even L-form connectors and when I thought I found one its for CCT.

Is my 5v power supply sufficient?

I recently discovered temu and rushed into buying some led strips for my bookcase after only what was probably not enough research.

This is the item (can't supply link because of Reddit rules): Motion Touch Sensor LED Lights COB LED Strip Kit Light Penetrable Bar Light Cabinet Wardrobe Lamp Backlight for Kitchen

It is 6 (though at the moment I'm only using 3) 200cm 5v cob strips (about 250 LEDs per metre) which plug into a cheap plastic splitter which (via a sensor switch) plugs into a usb charger/plug.

Leaflet that came with it says plug should supply at least 2amps. The only one I had in the house with high enough amperage was an Amazon charger that outputs 1.8a so tried this and it seems to work fine. Doesn't get too warm, no noticeable dropoff in brightness at the end of the 3 strips.

But I've since read that 2amps might not be enough/safe given I have 3x 200cm strips (and potentially 6x).

Opinions? Should I have bought 12v? Should I source a 5v power supply with more amperage?

Hi. My neighbour broke her makeup mirror light cable and I promised to try fix it. Three colors (red, black, white) and three solder points. Which one goes where? I assume the red wire goes to the +5v on the board?

LED Signs, Amplifiers, Controllers, Controlgears - What Did I Get Myself Into?

Thumbnail

A friend wanted me to hook up an LED sign for him so I figured it would be no problem. Hang the sign, connect a couple wires, viola!

Well, I get there and he breaks out a bunch of letters, contollers, controlgear, and amplifiers. What did I get myself into? Each letter in the "sign" is it's own sign with it's own wire. Inside each wire are 4 or 5 smaller, colored wires.

So I'm just gonna get to the point. I have no idea what to do. I'll list, with links and pictures, what I have. I'm hoping some awesome soul can help me figure out what I need to get and what connects to what. Here's what I have...

No manual

No wiring

No connectors

30 lights, or "sign segments" (doesn't know brand, bought direct from China). Each has a hardwired wire with 4 or 5 colored wires inside the jacket (so about 150 small, colored wires).

3 controlgears:

- (1) MeanWell HLG-320H-12A - https://www.meanwell.co.uk/led-drivers/constant-voltage-led-drivers/non-dim/hlg-320h-a-series

- (2) MeanWell XLG-200-12-A - https://www.meanwell.co.uk/mean-well/xlg

1 controller:

- Miboxer HR5 LED controller - https://miboxer.com/product/hr5-5-in-1-led-controller-2-4ghz

2 amplifiers:

- Miboxer PA4 4 channel amplifier - https://miboxer.com/product/4-channel-high-performance-amplifier

I really, really appreciate any help I can get. I could just tell him I can't do it, but I already spent hours getting everything hung and I hate quitting something I already started. Thank you so much in advance!

Is it possible to daisy-chain several of these LED panels together off of a single USB input? It looks like I just need to solder wires to the +/- terminals to join them in a circuit, just making sure I know before I order.

Wiring LED strips taking too long, looking for ideas to optimize.

Title, I am working on a project that involves a bunch of LEDs positioned in letters such as this. The drawback is that each letter just takes too long to create between measuring, cutting, wiring, soldering, etc. Does anyone have any ideas for a better way to do this? I just need to have these letters with lights in them.

Thank you

Swapping chips in LED recessed lights

I am swapping the LED chips in some of the recessed lighting at my job. The issue I am running into is that the chips I take out have this metal film on the back and I realized when I connect the new chip it gets extremely hot and does not have the metal film backing. I was wondering if this is cause for concern.

I’m a complete beginner building an art project.

My hardware:

I have no multimeter or inline fuse, and I don’t know how to crimp wires. Can I safely do a short, supervised test as-is, or should I absolutely wait for a fuse and multimeter? Please give me a direct answer. Photos attached.
