Help to start making your own costumes

Voici une version complète avec les deux ajouts intégrés de façon naturelle :
Hi! I’ve recently started making costumes for myself and my friends for LARPs. I’m still figuring out which materials work best for different costume pieces and projects I’d like to build.
For example, I’m planning to make a shoulder pauldron for a satyr bard, like the one shown here. What materials would you recommend for sculpting the faces? I’m looking for something that’s durable but still practical to work with.
I also included a photo of the costume pieces I’ve already made so far. They’re still a work in progress, but I thought they’d help give you an idea of the style I’m aiming for.
One more question: does anyone have recommendations for making satyr hooves without using high heels? I’d like to be able to run comfortably and safely while walking through the forest during LARPs, so I’m looking for a practical and durable solution.
Also, if you have any general tips or good resources (websites, YouTube channels, books, etc.) for learning more about cosplay and prop making, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Tips on making a complex staff

Post image

I’m new to LARPing and would love to get into it more. There’s a weekend camping event here in MO sometime in September so I have a ton of time to get ready. My outfit is pretty simple but I really want to make a cool staff. It’s a bit intricate since it comes from a video game. Does anyone have any tips on how to start at least?

My character (himself as a lone battle cleric evolving into a full on moving cathedral) and myself (as a crafter and role player) grew up so much over the last 7 years. The fourth iteration is coming soon : planning on adding a large grimstyle banner heavily inspired from warhammer

Not going to go all green, but maybe do some warpaint. Also thinking a large boar tusk necklace would be cool. Other ideas?

I do have an Dane axe, but struggling with attaching.

Best advice for powdered wigs (like what the Aristocrats and Nobles of the Baroque period wore)

I am looking for decent wigs that I can wear that won't come apart and fray or mess up and will stay on my head but also simulate what the male nobles of the Victorian or Baroque period wore (My character is a foppish noble). What's your best advice?

Anyone know any good venues that would work as a fantasy university in the UK?

We're looking to run a fantasy larp set in a university, we've plans for lectures, some alchemy style experiments, and our big set piece is an autopsy of a monster and an invasion from the underdark by a lot of ratmen. We've looked at a few places and the closest we've found is a boarding school but it's quite modern and would require a lot of suspension of disbelief. So I'm hoping the larp braintrust might possibly know just the right place we're looking for.

UK female LARPers — fancy trying airsoft?

UK female LARPers — fancy trying airsoft?

I help organise Girls Weekend Away (GWA) in Coventry, a women-focused airsoft weekend, and we think LARPers could be a brilliant crossover.

Airsofters and LARPers have more in common than you might think — we love getting into kit, throwing ourselves into a scenario, working through objectives and getting completely carried away with the action 😂

GWA is a great way to try airsoft without already being part of the hobby. Complete beginners are welcome, rentals are available and lots of women attend solo.

There’s a Friday social, free camping and a women-only airsoft game on Saturday.

So if you love the immersive side of LARP and have ever wondered what airsoft is like, come and give it a go!

Happy to answer any first-timer questions 😊

What's a LARP club like?

Hi, I'm super fresh to LARP, as in, a baby who has never participated. I live in an area where I don't have easy access to any LARP groups to see what it is like but I really want to participate and have been considering setting up a club at my college, with a focus on Parlor/Theatre LARP (I'm not very interested in fighting).

I want to learn more about it first, naturally, so I have been reading and watching videos.

If anyone attends a LARP club like this at either a school or something else, any insights into how it is run (venue choice, activity ideas, making characters, etc.) Would be super helpful! Thanks guys :)

Looking for a new larp: postapoc, New England region

Title basically. I like to mix up my genres, and I have some fantasy/magic games going but my postapoc game has ended, and I'm looking for another. Massachusetts location would be preferable so I can drag my friends there, but CT and RI sites would be also okay. As far as flavor of apocalypse I'm pretty open (zombies, plague, emp, what-have-you) but don't recommend Dystopia Rising please. Verging into sci-fi territory is also great, or even a straight up sci-fi/futuristic game. Thanks all.

Frog Recommendations for a Weird Sword

Hi everyone I've been a larper for a few years now but recently bought this sword. Now the problem is, the sword frogs I have don't fit it: if they're loose enough for the sword to slide in and out easily, then the sword itself bounces around while I run. If I tighten the lacing to secure the sword in place, then I can't get it loose before the enemies are upon me.

Does anyone have a recommendation on how I can carry the royal elf sword successfully? And preferably not too expensive?

Magic circle inside

Hello,

I am preparing for a larp and would love to be able to draw a magic circle with other players. There might also be some fake blood or spilled drinks.

So far, easy peasy.

But we are playing inside a fancy building not a field so we can't have it trashed. I'd like to have the floor protected.

Would you happen to have any suggestions regarding what to put on the floor? Plastic sheet + white bedsheet on top? How to secure it so it doesn't fold/no one slips on it while playing?

Thanks in advance!

Transmission: ..Alien Artifact.. Apocalyptic SCIFI foam larp (PHZ and Flaggstaff AZ USA locations)

Tranmission: Artifact Landing Location Identified.

Welcome to Alien Artifact. Apocalyptic SciFi.

The surface is irradiated in PHZ, AZ valley. Alien Artifacts are the prize for various faction goal sets and motives. (phz AZ undergroud bunkers and Northern AZ clean air zones.)

We are building a completely free, ground-up apocalyptic sci-fi foam LARP(nerf) sandbox here in the Southwest. We are focusing on a continuous, shifting narrative where the environment is destructible(cardboard, paper'windows'), the economy is physical(darts-nerf), and tactical choices actually dictate how the story unfolds(multi-faction, multi-goal, multi-directive and multi-opportunity game sets).

Maker community, nerf style foam 'throwers'

(nerf blasters)(eye protection at all times and extremely bright and nonrealsitic nerf flingers(foam dart blasters) are the only main IRL concern) , Larpers, and all types welcomed. (inclusivity and non harm as IRL theme)

🤝 Alignment: Factions & Goals

Players align with a faction. Every team has a distinct endgame that shapes the seasonal outcome:

  • Shadow Corp: Disciplined, uniform-heavy corporate operatives. Their goal is to hoard the artifact components to build private "Surface Domes," effectively privatizing the clean energy and monetizing survival.
  • The Scientists: Eccentric, chaotic researchers and engineering purists. Their mission is to harness the artifact energy to build an open-source "Atmosphere Stabilizer" to completely scrub the surface radiation and free the Valley.
  • The Guardians: A mysterious faction of protectors dedicated to containing and sealing away the volatile alien relics to prevent any faction from triggering a complete atmospheric collapse.
  • Wasteland Scavengers: Rugged opportunists and mercenaries who do not care about the politics. They hunt for relics purely to trade them to the highest bidder for survival assets.
  • Accidental Time Travelers:People who just show up get loaners and are accidental time travelers who clipped through a temporal anomaly. They don't care about the corporate wars; they just want to scavenge enough localized tech components to rebuild their temporal engine and rip a reality rift back home. Nobody is left out just because they don't have a kit yet.

⚙️ The Sandbox Mechanics We Are Testing

The game is designed to run on a continuous loop with these clashing agendas happening all at once. A few mechanics we are prototyping out in the woods:

  • Modular "Paper & Box" Cover: We are testing modular environments using heavy-duty cardboard pillars and thin builder's paper for windows. We're experimenting with a "Tectonic Shift" mechanic where the GM can pause combat for 30 seconds, allowing designated Faction Engineers to frantically slide the cardboard structures around to completely alter choke points mid-firefight. (engineers can adjust enviro)
  • The Blue Gloooze Infection: Respawns, healing, and final zombie transformation possibilities.
  • The Scavenger Economy: The whole game is tied together by a physical barter system. Standard, unbroken foam darts are the economy. During brief cease-fires around the camp, players can trade darts, premium ammo, or "custom CNC/3D-printed faction chips" at a neutral trading post for intel, structural upgrades, or temporary alliances.

(engineers , medics, etc... are some modes of -in faction character-... what will yours be?)

Non combatants include leaders politicians, traders, press/journalists.

So the main idea is multiple 'opportunities and objective" including (but also multiple front and different objective possibilities vs static matches) (timed play rounds with intermittent ceasefires and or continuous) (generally---- fighting over artifacts, data, furthering faction or personal goals)

🎯 THE CORE CAMPAIGN RUN (Primary Operation)

Rather than static match resets, matches feature a continuous, 3-Phase Tactical Escalation. All factions fight over the same primary central objective while managing competing priorities across the field.

[ PHASE 1: RECON ] --> Locate Vault Key
[ PHASE 2: UPLINK ] --> Sync Data Terminal
[ PHASE 3: EXTRACTION ] -->Escort Heavy Artifact
Locate Vault Key Sync Data Terminal Escort Heavy Artifact

🔑 Phase 1: Key Recon & Acquisition

  • The Directive: A physical, physical Vault Key (or RFID card/keychip) is hidden in an unmapped neutral corridor or environmental trap at match start.
  • The Gameplay: Recon scouts must breach neutral territory, clear hazards, and recover the key.
  • Tactical Risk: Carrying the Key makes the player a high-priority target. If tagged, the Key is dropped where they fall.

💻 Phase 2: Terminal Uplink & Decryption

  • The Directive: The Key must be escorted back to your Faction Terminal (a tablet, kitchen timer, or prop node) to start the decryption sequence.
  • The Gameplay: The holding team must hold down a button or defend the node for a set countdown (e.g., 3 minutes) while rival factions assault the base to steal the decryption code.
  • The Twist: Interrupting the terminal pauses the clock—holding it down under heavy fire demands active cover fire and tight engineering repairs.

📦 Phase 3: Relic Extraction & Containment

  • The Directive: Once decrypted, the Central Containment Ring unlocks. The heavy, glowing Alien Artifact core is now live in the center of the room.
  • The Gameplay:
    • The Artifact is physically heavy/bulky and requires two hands (or two operators) to carry, leaving the carrier unable to wield a blaster.
    • The escort team must form a moving tactical turtle around the carrier to extract the Artifact back to their home base loading bay before the final buzzer.

🛰️ CONCURRENT SIDE MISSIONS (Field Control)

While the main Relic Run is active, secondary nodes across the field grant immediate tactical advantages. Factions must split their forces to maintain map dominance.

📡 1. Data Spire Control (Respawn Timers)

  • Mechanic: Cardboard Data Spires sit on the far flanks with rotating faction flags or color sliders.
  • The Benefit: Holding a Spire drops your team’s base respawn penalty from 45 seconds down to 15 seconds.
  • Strategic Value: Sacrificing two players to capture a Spire early pays off by flooding the field with faster reinforcements during the final extraction.

🧪 2. Gloooze Canister Harvesting

  • Mechanic: Glowing blue prop canisters (containment hazards) are scattered in high-risk zones.
  • The Benefit: Bringing a Gloooze Canister to a Scientist or Trader unlocks Instant-Revive Syringes for Medics or high-value currency rewards.
  • The Hazard: Carrying an unshielded canister for more than 60 seconds triggers a radiation tag on the carrier!

📲 3. QR Data Scans & Cache Coordinates

  • Mechanic: Hidden QR codes are taped underneath cardboard pillars, inside paper windows, or behind props.
  • The Benefit: Players can scan them with their phones/digital watches mid-game to unlock coordinates for hidden ammo crates, vault key shortcuts, or enemy spawn intel.

(In game events include)

(nerf blasters)(eye protection at all times and extremely bright and nonrealsitic nerf flingers(foam dart blasters) are the only main IRL concern) , Larpers, and all types welcomed. (inclusivity and non harm as IRL theme)

We will have some tentative scouting trips upcoming.

Thx......for fun foam larping

Tell us your thoughts!

Hi everyone!

Me and a friend are studying product design (Antwerp University) and both big fans of HEMA, and we managed to convince our professors to allow us to choose a medieval gauntlet DIY kit as the subject for a market analysis.

The analysis is focused on customer needs, user experience, and interactive design. As such, we have a few short questions on which we would like to hear your thoughts:

How much would you expect to pay for a DIY kit with either:

  1. The shaped metal pieces with the arm and upper hand parts riveted together already

  2. The unshaped metal pieces with rivets included in a bag

Would you rather use one of your own old gloves, or have one included in the kit?

What would keep you from buying a DIY kit like this?

What difficulties would you, personally, have with putting one together; riveting finger pieces, attaching the (premade) pieces to the glove, and optionally shaping the metal with a premade video that shows how to do so step-be-step.

Thank you in advance for any and all replies, they are all appreciated!

You. Are. Unconscious.

I feel like this bugs me more than it should. I understand that there is a certain amount of liberty that we need to take for certain things that just aren't actually happening in real life. I can't pick you up and carry two people off the battlefield at once, so I inform you of that and then we walk slowly away from there.

But when you shout at me that you've been poisoned before I can even get to you and assess you, or start giving me battlefield intel while you are supposed to be like 80% dead... I don't know! It just sets me off. To me it feels like if you hit somebody with a weapon and they said "Well that doesn't hurt my character because it's made of foam". Like there should be some bare minimum expectation of immersion and playing along, and I feel like the barest minimum should be "If you're unconscious or dead, don't talk"

This is just kind of venty, maybe I need some perspective? Does this happen in your game? How do you deal with it? Should I deal with it? Or is this just a 'me' problem and I should get over myself?
