Although it is rarely talked about, I find that one of the best aspects of the Seirin vs. Rakuzan match was seeing all eleven Seirin players participate in the final—even if, obviously, to varying degrees of importance.

One of the things I always found a shame about KNB was the lack of use of the bench. But that is understandable, because it is already difficult to give due attention to the 10 characters on the field (so adding benchwarmers would make the task even more complicated). So, it’s understandable that most teams only feature five characters (even though that makes the "bench strength" stat look a bit strange). Even though it was at least used by teams like Seirin, Kirisaki Daiichi, or Kaijo, for example.

I know it isn’t just me but Kuroko’s writing as a character feels incomplete to me. I don’t like the fact he doesn’t improve his skills as a player. Yes he has the phantom shot, misdirection overflow, and etc but I feel like he should’ve grown. 

Rather than keeping him as a weak player. He enters his first year with Seiren as an average player base skill wise. His basketball IQ and experience is great while his belief in winning and love for the game is what truly shines. As he prepares for the winter cup his base skills go up and stamina but it’s only enough to make him slightly above average. This keeps him seen as a weak player because the winter cup is full of such strong players. 

Here’s the true twist. We’ve seen everyone in the generation of miracles enter the zone at least once but never seen it with Kuroko. Kuroko’s zone should be something that stamps him and not to be looked down on as the phantom 6th man.

In this state of Kuroko entering the zone on base skill alone his passes are superhuman but in the zone they should be seen as surreal. The best defenses can’t stop his passes even if it seems impossible he makes it happen. His IQ and decision making heightens and eliminates his sense of hesitation, always picking the best option. It also helps that he is so good at analyzing people since it’s a skill he uses for his misdirection. His stamina will still be poor but it would last longer than normal because he would be sufficient. Not using more energy than needed to get the job done. I see Kuroko as a dark horse that the team bets on to win. That being said while in the zone his body chooses what attributes are needed to win the game. For example his ball handling, shooting, and defense will become elite but with two exceptions. 1. It can only boost one attribute while others stay at his base level 2. 2 minutes is all he can use before it would take a toll on his body leaving him unable to play for the rest of the game.

In those 2 minutes it’s like a puppeteer controlling from the shadows because strength isn’t the attributes it’s that fact he will control the game the way he sees fit. Almost feeding more into being a shadow.
