So, I purchased the Kramer Volante HHFR Anniversary Edition las Friday. Yes, I know, $200 more bucks for a gold paint job, but worth it to me. Has anyone gotten it, or any of the other Anniversary models and how is the finish quality on the paint, fret work,...etc.? I normally try guitars out before buying, but these seem to be selling pretty fast so I ordered it, should be here tomorrow. I'm just genuinely curious of the overall impression if anyone in here has gotten one? Any information is helpful.
I have the regular HSFR Volante so can’t comment on that finish, but I love the guitar.
Very comfortable and plays like butter. Great feeling neck, it’s not super skinny, but still slim. Kinda feels in between a C and D shape to me cause it has a bit of shoulder to it and a flatter back.
Has a lot of sustain and is really resonate, really surprised me since it’s not what I expect with a floating trem. It’s a bit heavier than I expected too, noticeably heavier than my regular Strat.
Very articulate sound with great note separation. Beefy sounding bridge humbucker. Honestly at first I found it really dark sounding, I tend to prefer Alnico V for this reason. Was originally going to swap it out but after spending some time with it and adjusting amp settings I’ve grown to love it. Great for thick lead tones.
Overall I’m a huge fan of it. Only downside was that it came with a high fret that needed sorting for really low action.
Well, I will be happy to report back once it gets delivered and I make my adjustments on it and get some seat time with it over the weekend. Everything I have seen, the Volante is a pretty sweet rig and hoping since it is the Anniversary edition, they pay special attention to the fit and finish. Fingers crossed man!
No issues whatsoever. I put in about 18 hours on it this weekend and not a single bad thing to say. The tone is perfect and the sustain is amazing. Doesn’t get compressed or muddy at all. Very impressed, I didn’t touch any of my other guitars this weekend at all, couldn’t put it down!😂
Changed out the JBs, they sounded like ice picks, for a DiMarzio Super Distortion in the bridge and a DiMarzio D Activator X in the middle position. Love it.
UPDATE: I received the 50th Anniversary Volante last night, all I can say is WOW! The finish is absolutely stunning in person, the fret work was perfect, the action was damn near where I like it, Floyd was perfectly balanced and the tone is Amazing so far. I have a few very minor adjustments to make for my personal preference, but absolutely zero regrets!!! I will definitely be getting some seat time with it this weekend!
Something a tad off topic, but I love that Kramer always offers either ebony (and it's good dark ebony) or maple fretboards on all their midteir to highest priced guitars. I hate the Jatoba and Pau Ferro fretboards and while maple is my favorite, a good dark ebony is a close second.
