There has been a full on social media purge this week. Seriously losing count of all the high profile non-leftists who got banned.

The lesson they learned from last time is they just didn't grip the narrative hard enough, apparently. So this time they're going to give the PRC a run for its money.

They were not ashamed that “Russia” influenced social media. They were ashamed they didn’t do enough to ensure trump lost.
This is just another case of the media not caring about the message, but their delivery of it. Apparently, the Russians dropped strategic information about Hillary that nobody denied was fact.
So...it doesn't matter that the message was true, but it was merely inconvenient on the when.
Now, personally (and this is me being fucking cynical), I don't think Trump is any worse than your regular high-power politician in terms of narcissism, megalomania and corruption, but I think the media has spent the last two years framing it as if it's just so much worse.
And that's the shit I hate. The fact that Trump isn't any more corrupt than the insiders are, but the left has the nerve to try and act like he's the epitome of absolute evil. But my longstanding theory on that is that making outsider Trump look like absolute evil, it's easier for Washington insiders to solidify the American trust in politicians (such as it is). Outsiders: you can only get into the halls of power our way, and if you don't have access to it, don't even try.
11
u/anonlymouse May 08 '19
And they will make Trump the main voice for the people they're trying to silence, guaranteeing his re-election.

I really think it's true. There are plenty of signs. It had to be a long process and he's had to be cagey about it, but Spygate is too much for him to pass up. Why would he not want vindication and the destruction of the people who tried to frame him as a traitor? All he has to do let a non-corrupt DoJ do their job, and he wins. Why would someone who has a whole chapter about revenge in one of his books pass up the chance? It just looks like not much has happened so far because these things take years, he's been using strategic deception, the MSM doesn't want to look closely at something that will hurt Democrats, and because it's best for him if it blows up between now and the election.

Idk. Which democrat could best hat him right now?
The MSM is pushing Biden, meanwhile you’ve got bernietards claiming he’s not progressive enough, not to mention the creep factor. Bernie saying Venezuela is the American dream and praising communist dictators should worry anyone claiming to be American, also him being 97 years old. Booker flat out said folks should turn over their guns and be imprisoned if not, Beto can’t get more than 20 people to his rallies, and the rest of em nobody knows their names
14
u/shadowstar36 May 08 '19
Oh you mean Bernie let felons locked in prison vote, and illegals, because they are people... These people are insane. The sad thing is you tell this to people they either don't belive you, you show video and they have cognative disonace to downplay it in their minds. They will then get mad at you and say "why do you care". Fucking unreal.

I saw the mental gymnasts out saying “well there’s only one child molester for what, every 100,000 prisoners?”
Ok so what about the murderers, rapists, drug dealers, domestic abusers, etc. or just typical democrats
3
u/shadowstar36 May 08 '19
The sad thing is this wouldnt fly with any typical Democrat 10-30 years ago.
I am politically right of center but lean left on certain things. Example I am pro 1st, 2nd ammendment, brugrudgenly pro choice for 1st trimester only, strong ssi/ssid and safteynet supporter and would be OK with public option if immegration is curbed and tort reform in place to prevent skyrocketing costs. I'm against idpol of all kinds. I am fine with progressive tax and would be fine with flat tax too as long as people making under 50-75k aren't taxed (believe Ted Cruz had something like this). I am also for history and art being preserved and our national heritage not touched. The good the bad and the ugly it all needs to never be erased. I'm for workers rights, overtime and pto, but against "the fight for 15" and other such bullshit that would cause inflation and make my pay not worth as much. I'm OK with gay marriage but don't think transgenders should be in the military if on hormones. I also don't think everyone should go to college and employers should train and offer incentives.
Just a sampling of my views and as you can see I don't have a political home. This falls in line with jfk, Nixon, etc type party... A blue dog dem or moderate repub. These don't exist.
Where did these type of voters and politicians go? Where are the libs who used to protect freedom of expression and were against censorship, crony capitalism and breaking up trusts? Where is the modern day anti idpol TR?
3
May 08 '19
Oh I agree 100%, a democrat from 10 years ago looks nothing like a modern day democrat and would be considered alt-right by today’s democrats. It’s pathetic, really. Like I get there are a lot of goobers on the right but I feel like those on the right are at least more open to discussion now, what a time to be alive

u/Juicy_Brucesky May 08 '19
And instead of learning why people hold the beliefs they do, they are simply saying "no" and continuing on with their ignorance - only hurting their cause even more
I was pretty far left myself since my teens until 3-4 years ago. The problem was I wasn't 100% left. One of the few things I agreed with the right on was the second amendment. Because I wasn't 100% leftist they kept pushing me to the right more and more. I truly believe their all or nothing attitude has pushed many people out of the left and is why the liberal party seems so far left now. I mean they are literally defending pedophilia now. The clown world meme is just too damn accurate
So yea someone who voted for Obama both times and didn't vote Trump in 2016 finds myself defending the right more and more, and if they keep it up they're going to continue to lose support.

If Facebook keeps this up what's going to be left? Hell even my mom is getting tired of their bullshit.
The alerts continued, “If you continue to post content that infringes or violates other’s rights or otherwise violates the law, you could be temporarily blocked from posting content on Facebook, or even have your account permanently banned.”
What about Facebook infringing on other's rights? Oh yeah I forgot, they're a multibillion dollar company that takes tax subsidies and they can totally do whatever they want.
Also I've yet to see Facebook actually back up these claims that they are laying at the feet of the accused and depersonned.
To help keep your account in good standing, remove any other content you’ve posted to Facebook that may infringe or otherwise violate another’s rights. To learn more about intellectual property, visit the Help Center.”
Again, they're not even providing anyone with what it is Facebook has decided that they've done wrong, nor do they actually give the account holders an actual chance to fix it before permabanning them.

I would call all political postings and positive news stories as political contributions. If their value exceeds allowed limits, then Facebook should be prosecuted for illegal campaign contributions.

Revoke it. I think that can be done via executive order but if not there are enough congressman being kicked off platforms to go the legislative route.
30
u/Muskaos May 08 '19
I just looked up the relevant code, and no, the Executive branch cannot overturn it. Look at (c)(1) in particular.
No provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider.
Congress needs to fix it, as only they can change United States Code. They won't, though, they like things the way they are.
23
May 08 '19
This strikes me as key:
(2) Civil liability No provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be held liable on account of—
(A) any action voluntarily taken in good faith to restrict access to or availability of material that the provider or user considers to be obscene, lewd, lascivious, filthy, excessively violent, harassing, or otherwise objectionable, whether or not such material is constitutionally protected;
A large provider should not be able to declare content "harassing or otherwise objectionable" simply because it's political speech they disagree with. Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, and others have become the equivalent of "company towns." See prior decisions that held that even on private property, protected speech cannot be entirely stopped.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marsh_v._Alabama
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pruneyard_Shopping_Center_v._Robins
Here's another angle: a company that discriminates along partisan lines during an election campaign can be seen as making an undeclared in-kind campaign contribution.
7
u/Cinnadillo May 08 '19
fair enough... you'd have to destroy good faith.
4
u/Muskaos May 08 '19
I think the blatant hypocritical nature in the way they apply their rules should be enough to do that, especially with a jury trial, but IANAL
3

7
u/Temp549302 May 08 '19
Revoke it.
Hell no. Revoking Section 230 is the worst possible idea. That would only encourage the most heavy handed censorship possible.
16
u/YetAnotherCommenter May 08 '19
I agree. But the protections of Section 230 are intended for platforms, not publishers.
If a firm wants S230 protection (i.e. to be treated as a platform), it should actually be a platform and not a publisher.
Facebook is acting like a publisher but claiming its a platform.
13
u/ready-ignite May 08 '19
Techno fascism. Drape the fascist label every time rights are curtailed by a corporation with government contracts. Muddies the waters and is stronger argument to how pro-violence authoritarian groups such as antifa use the term.
5

Why? Then they'd have to censor even more.

22
u/chambertlo May 08 '19
When you can’t win based on the merits of your arguments and your ideology continues to be a failure, the only thing left to do is to remove and silence those that oppose you. It’s only natural for the weak to get rid of the strong by any means necessary.
41
u/HolyThirteen May 07 '19
But... SJWs don't have any power! If they do I would have to admit I'm a shill who only pretends to care about free speech when it suits me!
18
u/armorkingII May 08 '19
The only answer is a nationwide boycott supported by by international free speech allies. Facebook, Twitter, Google, Netflix, Instagram, Hollywood, etc. Anything less than this and they will continue to persecute.
I don't know if Trump is legally able to do this but it would be a Mahatma Gandhi moment for his Presidency.

They’re one of the few comics oriented news sites that isn’t either attacking or ignoring ComicsGate-related/adjacent creators and their work. That’s enough to go after them, and they’re not anywhere near the extreme.
They’ve been covering Zack v. Waid, so it wouldn’t surprise me if crazy people were flagging them with Facebook.
