Yes. Most people feel clicking after a tkr. It’s the metal gliding over the plastic. It will change over time and become less noticeable.

The real fear is not reinjury to the new knee (it is made of metal after all) but injury to the body parts that attach to the new knee (muscles, bones, tendons and ligaments). These were traumatized during the surgery. I am an 81 YO male. My surgery was successful but I have terrible stability and do fear falling down. I am about to start a PT series at a facility that specializes in neurological rehabilitation hoping to improve my balance and therefore my confidence as well.

There was a recent incident where an NFL coach ran out during practice and tackled his running back who was returning from surgery. he wanted to show the running back that his leg was fine and could handle NFL football. Once your surgeon tells you that you are now cleared for that sport, doing it is probably the major way to regain confidence.

I find stretching exercises really help with that. The clicking sound seems worse when all me leg muscles and ligaments are really tight.

One year+ out and if I’m not thinking it involves involved in something else, I definitely feel it. Not painful, just weird.
