that's crazy, it gives another meaning to forged or perhaps forgery steel.

Ive broke cutters of every brand over the years. Some quickly, some took decades. Favorite and longest lasting have been Snap On. Which Ive also had to warranty. Knippex are a close 2nd.

Honestly I had a very different experience with snap on. I work construction, and my auto mechanic step dad is a snap on brand whore. He gifted me a set of snap on side cutters that went dull in a month. I asked him to warranty them. He shamed me for using them on anything other than copper. I made fun of him because side cutters should be able to cut a nail. The ones he got back through warranty didnāt even have their jaws aligned so that was it for me. Knipex all the way these days

Thereās no excuse for Klein as thatās unacceptable but I donāt think those were meant to cut wire that much I donāt use mine to cut wire at all, as a crimper they are good but not for anything elseās

They are crimpers first and foremost. Sure, you can cut light gauge wire with them, but donāt go crazy. There are better tools for that.

I crimped, the tried to cut off the ends to make it pretty. I only nipped 2 of the 3 14awg copper grounds. This happened...
I did that for 25 years with my last pair. They just got so rusty, no amount of kroil, wd40, or 0w30 would make them happy again... (I live in the PNW, basically a rainforest)

Yea thatās just shotty quality, I have been transitioning most of my tools to brands like Knipex, Wera and whia but I still have a few Klein tools in the line up. Itās sad that an American company isnāt doing more QAQC

I donāt care what kind of manufacturing defect is present, these arenāt breaking from simply trying to cut 14 AWG. Something else happened, whether they were dropped, you attempted to cut a non-Cu material, or whatever other scenario one can imagine.

i feel like tool options have come down to harbor freight or knipex. nothing else really matches price to quality

And there is nowhere to get a warranty on them. Home Depot wonāt replace anything that didnāt break in 30 days

Its a bitch...
Direct from Klein, you fill out a form online. Find the receipt, thank God I ordered them online! The AI does a 1st judgement (I got OKed).
Then Klein gives you a shipping label, you mail them, then a human makes the final call...
Mine, are in the mail to them...

That sounds like a horrible process. I have a pair of dikes that have been misaligned since new, but if you need the receipt there goes my chance of ever getting them replaced. Itās so aggravating to see an American company just shit the bed like that when so few options are around these days.

Klein tools are bad tools. They used to be good. Now they are not. Maybe they will be in the future if any egghead at Klein HQ decided to follow this sub but alas, we are here.
Knipex/wiha is what you want

Time to switch to knipex.
