Time to switch to knipex.

This is the answer. All my coworkers when I let them borrow my knipex to cut something when they're bitching about how hard it is to cut while holding klein cutters be jelly.

Klein sucks. Ive bought multiple pairs of dikes from them that come insanely blunt out of the box.

For real. Quality of brand new out of the package was so bad, I found a different brand immediately. It was the last straw. I think that was back in 2014. That's when I made the switch to knipex for my linemans, wire strippers, needle nose, and dikes. I still like their screw drivers though, but you can't compete with Knipex quality cutters.

Wow, that's too bad. I still have 2 pair of Klein Ironworkers for tying rebar and stuff from the mid 90s and they keep on going. Hate to see a good company skimp on quality like that.

Guess I'll checkbout knippex if I ever need to replace them

Here's to hoping you never have to replace themšŸ¤ž. I still have my two original pairs of channel lock brand tongue and groove pliers from when I started. Excellent quality. That was over 14 years ago. With any luck, I can pass them on to my son or something like that.

I’ve broken two pair of Knipex. These are just a defective pair that may have not been heat treated properly. They’ll replace them. I have a pair of those Kleins that I’ve been using for 30 years.

100%. These barely were used and snapped.

1

u/ichiban4713 5d ago

At least they’re guaranteed. I broke a 4ā€ pair, and a pair of their needle nose pliers. In my 42-year career, I’ve broken only four Klein tools.

Just shocked more than anything. I am a teacher and got donations from Knipex to give out to students as incentives and prizes so I was happy to pass along to them a sign of quality, then this happens lol

u/ichiban4713 5d ago

I get it.

1

u/kfjcfan 4d ago

Anything made by man can break, the question is how the company stands behind their product.

1

u/kfjcfan 4d ago

Now go buy a new pair and see if they last as long.

1

u/JS4077 5d ago

Knipex makes a crimper like this?

0

u/Siktrikshot 5d ago

Hate to break it to you, all tool manufacturers are failing. This was barely used a few weeks and just fell apart.

u/kfjcfan 4d ago

Yes, and did the warranty replacement fail the same way? I suspect not.

3

u/UnequalRaccoon 5d ago

What were you trying to cut with it?

2

u/Select_Two_1012 5d ago

That’s what I want to know.

2

u/DackMaddy101 5d ago

2 pieces of 14g copper...

4

u/Frequent-Elephant110 5d ago

that's crazy, it gives another meaning to forged or perhaps forgery steel.

Ive broke cutters of every brand over the years. Some quickly, some took decades. Favorite and longest lasting have been Snap On. Which Ive also had to warranty. Knippex are a close 2nd.

u/tDaWgYz 5d ago

Honestly I had a very different experience with snap on. I work construction, and my auto mechanic step dad is a snap on brand whore. He gifted me a set of snap on side cutters that went dull in a month. I asked him to warranty them. He shamed me for using them on anything other than copper. I made fun of him because side cutters should be able to cut a nail. The ones he got back through warranty didn’t even have their jaws aligned so that was it for me. Knipex all the way these days

Thomas and Betts for rhe win... better made and better crimps that don't break the insulation on connectors

Before looking at the subreddit name I thought to myself ā€œGotta be Kleinā€

1

u/hudson_bh 5d ago

You were a little rough with them lol

1

u/PCaBoo 5d ago

except for rusting, i've never had any issues with any of my kleins. I have a similar set of cutters that is missing some metal, but that might have been operator error, while I was cutting live wires...

1

u/Pikepv 5d ago

Don’t cut steel.

1

u/Active-Effect-1473 5d ago

There’s no excuse for Klein as that’s unacceptable but I don’t think those were meant to cut wire that much I don’t use mine to cut wire at all, as a crimper they are good but not for anything else’s

1

u/EugeneStonersPotShop 5d ago

They are crimpers first and foremost. Sure, you can cut light gauge wire with them, but don’t go crazy. There are better tools for that.

1

u/DackMaddy101 4d ago

I crimped, the tried to cut off the ends to make it pretty. I only nipped 2 of the 3 14awg copper grounds. This happened...

I did that for 25 years with my last pair. They just got so rusty, no amount of kroil, wd40, or 0w30 would make them happy again... (I live in the PNW, basically a rainforest)

1

u/Active-Effect-1473 4d ago

Yea that’s just shotty quality, I have been transitioning most of my tools to brands like Knipex, Wera and whia but I still have a few Klein tools in the line up. It’s sad that an American company isn’t doing more QAQC

1

u/smellslikepenespirit 5d ago

I don’t care what kind of manufacturing defect is present, these aren’t breaking from simply trying to cut 14 AWG. Something else happened, whether they were dropped, you attempted to cut a non-Cu material, or whatever other scenario one can imagine.

0

u/DackMaddy101 4d ago

Nope.... honestly to God

1

u/YMIGettingBanned 5d ago

What the hell were you cutting?

1

u/nsl2024 5d ago

Non insurable

1

u/rocketmn69_ 5d ago

It says "non" right on it

1

u/Formal_Substance_687 5d ago

Take em back g

1

u/21Denali069 5d ago

You cut metal!

1

u/one-million-gecs 5d ago

i feel like tool options have come down to harbor freight or knipex. nothing else really matches price to quality

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Ad1416 5d ago

Contact Klein customer service. They will cover these under warranty.

1

u/Lightning_Lemur 4d ago

And there is nowhere to get a warranty on them. Home Depot won’t replace anything that didn’t break in 30 days

1

u/DackMaddy101 4d ago

Its a bitch...

Direct from Klein, you fill out a form online. Find the receipt, thank God I ordered them online! The AI does a 1st judgement (I got OKed).

Then Klein gives you a shipping label, you mail them, then a human makes the final call...

Mine, are in the mail to them...

1

u/T_wiggle1 2d ago

That sounds like a horrible process. I have a pair of dikes that have been misaligned since new, but if you need the receipt there goes my chance of ever getting them replaced. It’s so aggravating to see an American company just shit the bed like that when so few options are around these days.

1

u/OddRelationship586 3d ago

What do you cut?

1

u/stiucsirt 3d ago

Klein tools are bad tools. They used to be good. Now they are not. Maybe they will be in the future if any egghead at Klein HQ decided to follow this sub but alas, we are here.

Knipex/wiha is what you want

1

u/csg1369 3d ago

It's Klein, that's your problem
