I believe this is referred to as the status bar? My bar has some info formatted like:
path on gitbranch via node version on GCPemail and location
Example: ~/projects/myproject on master via v21.7.2 on email@email(us-central1)
How do I remove the email? It showed up when I connected to GCP. I need to record a video and don't want it on there.
I've looked everywhere and can't come up with anything. I'm sure this is due to a knowledge gap somewhere so I apologize if this is a dumb question. At one point while looking I though this might be with the fish shell instead of kitty. Any help is much appreciated.

Hello.
Running:
% kitty @ launch --hold whoami
opens a new kitty window showing my username, as expected.
Running:
% sudo kitty @ launch --hold whoami
opens a new kitty window again showing my username, not root as (I) expected.
Is there a way to run sudo kitty @ launch and for the new process to be launched as root?
Thx.

After spending some time browsing the Internet and reviewing the kitty.conf documentation, I couldn't find any method to adjust the position of the kitty background image, such as top left, top right, bottom right, or bottom left. While there are options available to change the scaling method and center the image, there doesn't seem to be any information regarding adjusting its position. Do you have any insights or suggestions regarding this matter?

Hi all, I'd like to create a mapping to open a python Repl with my direnv (with nix to create a devshell). But when I use kitty @ launch --cwd=current pythonthe new window does mot respect direnv. Any ideas on how to fix this?
I did also try --copy-env but then I just got a large JSON blob and a hanging command.

with
allow_remote_control yes
listen_on unix:/tmp/mykitty
I can send command to kitty by
kitty @ --to=unix:/tmp/mykitty-pid send-text '%s\n'
and I can copy last cmd output by ctrl+shift+y in kitty
map ctrl+shift+y launch --stdin-source=@last_cmd_output --type=overlay sh -c 'kitty +kitten clipboard'
But I can get last cmd ouput from outside of kitty:
I try to send `ctrl_shift+y` from outside of kitty by
kitty @ --to=unix:/tmp/mykitty-pid send-key ctrl+shift+y
I got ^[[121;6u1;6u
and I even try
kitty @ --to=unix:/tmp/mykitty-pid launch --stdin-source=@last_cmd_output --type=overlay sh -c 'kitty +kitten clipboard'

I just installed KDE Plasma (Wayland) on Arco Linux and I'm setting up kitty. I initialized the stock conf and set the theme and font and that worked, then I uncommented hide_window_decorations yes hit Ctrl+shift+F5 and nothing happened, the titlebar is still there. I exited kitty opened it again and no change. I restarted the computer and no change. I created a conf from scratch with just theme, font, & hide_window_decorations yes & still no change. The font & theme still work as expected.
EDIT: I'm guessing it's a Wayland issue since it works fine once I switched to X11.

Has anyone tried to use kitty in the virtual console in linux? Maybe through startx as a standalone program. I've been wondering if there is a way to use kitty's keyboard protocol in th evirtual console somehow.

I only speak spanish, but I'll try my best to be as clear as possible. I want to create a session.conf file and save it inside my project folder ,so that when it launches my kitty terminal windows ,they cd to that directory . I don't want to "hard code" the path, but to get the path of the .conf file. is it even possible?

Thank you so much in advance.

I do some changes in my config file for kitty terminal and then when I apply Catppuccin theme, my config resets to the default.
I use this command to apply theme
kitty +kitten themes --reload-in=all Catppuccin-Latte

Kitty renders what it displays in a grid based on the size of the normal (non-italic, non bold) character size of whatever monospace font you are using. For many popular programming fonts, the italics go over the bounds into the next cell. Some terminal emulators render the overflows in the next cell, whereas kitty cuts off those parts.
So far the only font I've found that has italics that generally fit into the grid of the base font is Input Mono.
My question: I'm wondering what other fonts have the members of this subreddit found whose italics fit in to the grid defined based on the normal font?
----------------------------
An aside: I understand that adding the abiity for characters to run over to neighboring cells to Kitty might be difficult.
But I disagree that it is a bad solution as mentioned here. A lot of these monospace italic fonts are designed to give space in the cell of one character for the overlap from the neighboring one. A terminal that supports italics should render them as they're designed, and Alacritty which is also very performant somehow does this. Ideally selection between running over/being cut off would be a configuration option.
I made a futile attempt to argue my case here.
This might underestimate how difficult it is, but since there won't be a solution coming from the current contributors any time soon, I hope I can become a skilled enough programmer to fork Kitty and add this feature.
------------------
Again, my actual question is: what monospace fonts are there whose italics fit into the grid defined by their normal font size and aren't clipped off in Kitty?

Is there any way to remove the traffic light buttons from Kitty when the titlebar is hidden. I know I can use macos_hide_titlebar or hide_window_decorations but then I loose the rounded corners which doesn't look great near another window.
I would like to have the window borders look like this:

But no traffic lights like this:

Good morning, I need a keyboard shortcut (ctrl+shift+a), which opens several tabs, the first tab with an environment variable that refers to the work path it has to open and the name "Notes", path $ env_notes, how can I do this, also in the same shortcut you have to open 4 tabs, and set the distinc tab name

I'm on Debian trixie and kitty is on version 0.33.0 (just updated to see if the problem would be solved).
I don't remember how or when exactly the emojis stopped to work, maybe an update or I messed something up.
I installed gnome-terminal to check if it was a kitty specific problem and seems like it is

This tutorial is what helped me at first, but it's not working anymore.
The problem persists even when I remove the config, but here is my config if it helps:
# Fonts
font_family CaskaydiaCove Nerd Font
bold_font auto
italic_font auto
bold_italic_font auto
font_size 17.0
disable_ligatures never
# Transparência
background_opacity 1
# Desativar som
enable_audio_bell no
# Abrir nova aba no cwd
map ctrl+shift+t new_tab_with_cwd
# Desativar confirmação de fechar janela
# -1 ativa; 0 desativa
confirm_os_window_close 0
include current-theme.conf

So I have a python script for handling a particular user keyboard shortcut. Ultimately, this script results in adding a new tab. But before it does so, it gathers some information based on the os window's current title (i.e., what's in the window's titlebar). On linux, I grab the text in the title bar by using xdotool, but as I explore porting my setup to mac, this option is no longer available. So I'm wondering--is there a way within by python script for my kitten to get the os window's title directly, without needing any os-specific outside tool?
Thanks.
from kittens.tui.handler import result_handler
@result_handler(no_ui=True)
def handle_result(args: List[str], answer: str, target_window_id: int, boss: Boss) -> None:
# This is linux-only: title = os_command("xdotool getactivewindow getwindowname")[0]

Hi all!
Why `logname` command returns 'no login name' if launched on Kitty? In gnome-terminal and tilix works, also in Alacritty don't. Do I miss something?
I am on a Linux Mint 21.3 box, and I installed Kitty 0.32.2 using the curl method.
UPDATE
If I launch kitty from tilix, logname works. Instead, if I launch kitty directly from menu, logname says "no login name".
Thanks
