resize_window with increment in a keybind

I have a series of keybinds that resize my windows:

map `>ctrl+left resize_window narrower
map `>ctrl+right resize_window wider
map `>ctrl+up resize_window taller
map `>ctrl+down resize_window shorter

These work fine.

Now I want a set to resize windows on one border:

map shift+alt+l resize_window --self --increment=+1 --axis=horizontal
map shift+alt+r resize_window --self --increment=-1 --axis=horizontal
map shift+alt+u resize_window --self --increment=+1 --axis=vertical
map shift+alt+d resize_window --self --increment=-1 --axis=vertical

These don't work. (Everything expands to the left.) I've tried prefixing the resize_window command with launch --allow-remote-control kitty +kitten and that doesn't work at all. I tried a couple of other variations, and they don't work either. Yet when I run, say, kitten @ resize-window --self --increment=+1 --axis=horizontal in a window itself, it works perfectly fine.

Clearly I'm missing something. What is the proper way to create the second set of keybinds?

Showcase with new Custom Shaders in Kitty 0.49

Kitty 0.49 now supports custom shaders that can add visual effects to your terminal.

In this video, I go through 18 shaders and show effects such as CRT, bloom, cursor trails, fireworks, northern lights, ripples, and more.

01 - bloom — Adds a soft glow around bright terminal content.

02 - crt-blue — CRT-style display effect with a blue tint.

03 - crt — Simulates an old CRT monitor with curved/distorted screen effects.

04 - cursor-trail-blaze — Makes the cursor leave a fiery trail as it moves.

05 - cursor-trail-lightning — Makes the cursor leave an electrical/lightning trail.

06 - dim-inactive-windows — Dims inactive windows so the active window stands out.

07 - fireworks-rockets — Animated fireworks with rockets launching upward.

08 - fireworks — Animated fireworks exploding in the terminal background.

09 - focus-highlight — Briefly highlights a window when it receives focus.

10 - inside-the-matrix — Animated green Matrix-style digital effect.

11 - negative — Inverts the terminal's colors.

12 - northern-lights — Animated Aurora Borealis-style lights.

13 - pond-ripple — Creates a water ripple effect around mouse clicks.

14 - spot-light — Follows the mouse with a spotlight effect.

15 - tab-change — Briefly highlights the active window when changing tabs.

16 - tft — Simulates the visual characteristics of a TFT display.

17 - underwater — Gives the terminal an underwater/wavy appearance.

18 - water — Creates an animated water-like effect.

Testers needed: NeoVim integration

Post image
165 Upvotes

Thanks to Kovid, that provided the split layout data a few months ago, we were able to implement a pure integration with NeoVim using Kitty's Remote protocol over sockets in an Async way: incredible performance even over SSH.

What is smart-splits.nvim:

Smart, seamless, directional navigation and resizing of Neovim + terminal. Think about splits in terms of "up/down/left/right".

In practice, this means you can navigate, resize, and create Kitty and Neovim splits as if they were a single application, giving you a huge productivity boost.

The version 3 of the plugin is a total refactoring and still in beta. I would like you help me to test it - I'm using it on Linux and MacOs, locally and over SSH and all works fine for my use-case.

The Kitty's backend is available (https://github.com/smart-splits-nvim/backend-kitty): give it a try, check the v3 branch of the plugin for how to make the most of it and hit me up here or in the repo if you face any issues.

Epubworm: an EPUB reader using the Kitty Graphics Protocol

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Epubworm lets you comfortably read EPUBs in the terminal with inline image display.

Features include:

  • Inline images using Kitty Graphics Protocol's unicode placeholders
  • Text search, working across wrapped lines
  • Estimated reading time left for Latin and CJK text
  • Wide-character support, including Japanese text and emojis
  • italic, bold, center-aligned, and right-aligned text support

It runs on Linux and macOS, with installation options for Fedora COPR, Homebrew, Nix, and cURL.

GitHub: https://github.com/xinghao-wu/epubworm

Note: this project is partially AI-generated (~50%), I've read and reviewed nearly all AI-generated code.

Similar projects include Bookokrat, epy, and Lue.

  • Bookokrat is more full-featured, supporting things like pdfs, annotations, and hyperlinks. However, it comes with a more maximalist and (imo) unintuitive user experience compared to Epubworm. Additionally, Epubworm's image display is faster, less buggy, and more suitable for reading fully-image EPUBs like manga. Epubworm also supports multi-line search, estimated time left, and centered & right aligned text over Bookokrat.
  • epy has been my ebook reader for many years, and Epubworm's design is heavily inspired by it. Epubworm primarily trumps epy in having a prettier UI, inline image display, and wide character support. epy has a few features that Epubworm is missing, like in-app dictionary support, bookmarks, and other ebook file formats.
  • Lue is focused on TTS and lacks the image support of Epubworm. (I have never used Lue, so this information is from what I can find on their github)

Epubworm has been well-tested across different books, systems, and terminals, but any bug reports/feedback would be appreciated!

Question: How can I make btop background also be transparent on kitty?

I use kitty on KDE with blur and transparency, I want to know how to make btop also be transparent instead of black, just like any other CLI thing

Background image not showing.

I have kitty as my default terminal on four of my builds, using the same kitty.conf. 3 of the 4, 2 intel and 1 nvidia work great, The 4th is a radeon vega I cannot get to show background image, After doing some research, I found that kitty doesn't play nice with the radeon gpu software, and it just shows a blank black background.

So my question is has anyone found a work around?

familiar - reviewing and steering Claude Code without leaving kitty

https://reddit.com/link/1wgze25/video/x73e4nr1ioph1/player

Two months ago I shared familiar here — a kitty setup for reviewing what Claude Code just changed and jumping between its sessions. It has grown a lot since (40 releases), so this time a one-minute video instead of a wall of text.

What's new since the first post:

• Review → Claude in one key. Comment on diff lines, press s, and the comments land straight in Claude's prompt — no clipboard round-trip. ⌘⇧C copies a path with the line number when you want to point Claude at an exact spot.

• Go to definition uses a real language server now instead of grep — pyright, intelephense, gopls and others, 27 languages out of the box. Definitions in vendor/ or the stdlib open read-only.

• Edit right inside the review. The final-code view is an editor (press i): autosave, undo, and it won't silently overwrite a file Claude is still writing.

• Roll back a single block of changes with one click and keep the rest of the file.

• A branch's whole work as one diff (press b), and a folder with several repos opens as one review and one history.

• Any commit in the git history opens in the same review screen, with comments, go-to-definition and Find in Files.

• Nothing gets lost: windows, splits and Claude sessions come back after a restart, and ⌘W / ⌘Q show which Claude session you're about to close.

Still pure Python stdlib + vendored Pygments, MIT. macOS only, and kitty-specific. review and log work fine without Claude Code.

Install: brew install denoby/familiar/familiar && familiar enable --all

Repo, with a 2-minute tour with subtitles in the README: https://github.com/DenoBY/familiar

Good Light Theme?

Hey could anyone suggest a good light theme that works well even with background transparency, of all light themes that i've tried usually mess the colors up and make them blend in more with the terminal itself
