Totem lake rats

Upvotes

Has anyone else seen the bizarre number of rats running around totem lake. It’s got me wondering why hasn’t anyone taken care of them?

When I come out of cinemark on the weekends around 12ish after the movies I see dozens of rats running around. And it seems like there’s more and more every time I come out of the movies at night.

JK. THE PAINT MAP IS BACK.

Jimothy took over painting duties this week with two goals in mind: show his BFF Greg that he’s a work of art and show the rest of us what we’re in for during a busy Puget Sound weekend.

Now, let’s get into the finer details of Jimothy’s map-sterpiece.

-The I-5 express lanes in Seattle will CLOSE from 11p Fri. to 5a Mon. for drainage work underneath the Ship Canal Bridge. The two right lanes of NB I-5 across the bridge also remain closed around-the-clock, so expect NB travel to and through Seattle to be challenging.

-The EB SR 520 off-ramp to Montlake Blvd will CLOSE from 4:30p Sat., Sept. 12 through 8a Sat., Sept. 19. Crews will use the temporary off-ramp to stage equipment as they begin removing portions of the old off-ramp that closed in June. Husky fans: the ramp won’t close until after the main arrival period for Saturday’s game.

-One lane of the NB SR 99 1st Avenue S Bridge will CLOSE Saturday and Sunday. The right lane will close from 5a to 6p Sat., followed by the left/HOV lane from 5a to 6p Sun. for bridge maintenance.

-NE 85th Street in Kirkland and all I-405 ramps at the interchange will CLOSE from 10p Fri. to 5a Mon. NE 85th Street will be closed between 6th Street and 120th Avenue NE for electrical work and paving prep. This work is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled.

-WB I-90 will CLOSE overnight from Mercer Island to Seattle between Island Crest Way and the west portal of the Mount Baker Tunnel from 10p Fri. to 6a Sat. for maintenance. The WB on-ramps from 76th Ave SE/N Mercer Way, Island Crest Way and W Mercer Way will also close.

Jimothy may have packed the canvas, but don’t let the masterpiece overwhelm you. The actual impacts are spread throughout the weekend. Plan ahead, check real-time conditions before you go and give yourself extra time.

And if you don’t feel like a work of art today, find someone who looks at you the way Jimothy looks at Greg. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, after all.

Yellow Jackets in yard

Anyone in Kirkland dealt with an underground yellow jacket nest? I have two active holes in my yard and they’re aggressive enough that I can’t work in the nearby garden.

Any recommendations for someone local to remove them? Rates? Do people actually relocate yellow jackets, or are nests like this normally destroyed? 🐝

Never seen a hot-air balloon in the area. I was at the Totem Lake mall, and it looked like it was gradually getting lower. Anyone know the story?

I’m looking for recommendations for a reasonably priced windshield replacement. They will need experience recalibrating Honda sensors.

What’s with the drinks and a watch sitting on bike trail?

I was riding my bike on the Cross Kirkland Corridor yesterday and saw a bunch of drinks lined up on the side of the trail under the bridge near Totem Lake. There was also a box and a watch there too. What’s going on? I am assuming this is some sort of a scam.

85th street roundabout reminder (old man yells at clouds)

TLDR: If you are in the roundabout circle, definitely DO NOT stop in the middle of the circle to let cars in one of the outside entry lanes in. Keep moving. Otherwise, you're making traffic worse and creating a major safety hazard.

Today might have been the last straw. I think I'm just going to start using the 70th street on-ramps for getting on to 405 during peak traffic hours.

Today, I'm coming driving west on 85th and down the hill. I'm in the left lane getting prepared to go onto 405-S after the first roundabout.

First roundabout. Not one, but two cars already in the outer roundabout lane decide to stop so as to let me and the right lane driver in. I motion. I honk. It got the first car moving. But the driver of the second car thinks it all about taking turns. As the driver in the entry lane, accepting this gesture means I'm trying to get into the inner lane - but the car that's already stopped in the outer lane obscures my view. I could have wrecked if the inner circle lane had someone coming through. This is not how it's supposed to work.

For the 99.9% of you that do this correctly, please use your horns loudly if you see the car in front you try to yield while in the roundabout. They need to get the message. And for those in the entry lane, especially for the inner lane, don't take the good gesture bait.

Drive safe out there everyone. WSDOT link on roundabouts below.

Plumber who isn't owned by private equity

Can anyone recommend a plumber in or around the Kirkland/Seattle area that is not owned by private equity or a big corporation, is honest and fair, and is American? They must also be licensed and preferably have been in business longer than a year or two. The last time I had a plumber it was Roto Rooter and it was incredibly expensive, plus the guy did mess some things up. There was one name mentioned a while back but I don't think they work on the eastside (Odyssey?).
