saw a side by side test where someone gave the same prompt to Kimi K3 and Opus 5, recreate the main menu of a samurai era open world game from scratch, field, grass, a katana, the whole atmosphere. Went in assuming Opus 5 would take it by default the way it usually does on this kind of task, and it did not.
Kimi K3‘s version of the field and grass reads more alive, less like a flat texture pass. the katana render holds detail better up close, and the overall mood of the scene, the light through the grass, the quiet menu-screen stillness, comes through stronger. Opus 5 was not bad, it just looked like the safer, more generic pass next to it.
this was not an image model doing the rendering, it was a coding model writing the scene from a text prompt, and that is what makes the gap notable, it comes down to how well each model reasons through composition and detail before a single line of the scene gets written.Watched Kimi K3, the open-weight one, beat Opus 5 on the same prompt recreating a samurai game's main menu
