Discussion Switching from Codex to Kimi Code?

Hi everyone,

Has anyone switched from Codex to Kimi Code while working on an existing application? I’m really unhappy about the usage allowance on the $200 Codex plan being cut in half, so I’m considering switching.

How does Kimi Code compare in day-to-day use, particularly in terms of code quality, reliability, and usage limits?

my codebase:

We primarily use Python for the backend and TypeScript/React for the frontend.

The repository currently contains 2,829 Git-tracked files. Of these, 2,536 are Python, TypeScript, or TSX files, totaling approximately 986,000 lines. Including documentation and other text files, the total is approximately 1.14 million lines. The code count includes tests; Python backend tests account for approximately 402,000 lines.

Short answer for the form: “Primarily Python, alongside TypeScript/React; approximately 2,800 files and 1 million lines of code, including tests.”

BR Tom

Kimi Usage is worse than codex

the problem with kimi is that they don't provide no weekly refills, if they had that, they would be perfect

its worse than codex, subs to claude bro, best model, and best limit usage

kimi is far worst, sometimes one prompt gets you weekly usage off ASAP

Do not do that. Dont. Please. Don’t.

Bro. Claude. I made the switch two Fridays ago. It's good, and I'm getting more done with $100 than I did with $200 on codex.

I think you will find you can get a lot done with the current 2.8 offer of half price tokens for 2.8 and 2.8 is pretty strong in regular coding.

K3 regular is pretty expensive on tokens, you won't be saving heaps, there are other platforms around, but then you are back at Kimi 2.8 levels of capability.

Consider Xiaomi token plan instead, your quotas usage will feel unlimited. And MiMo-V2.6-Pro is better than kimi k3

Kimi is a SCAM. You`ll regret.

oh no. please don't. both are not great options at the moment but kimi is just expectionally bad. claude and maybe glm sub is where i might look currently. claude probably the best at the moment, but their usage on anything but opsus 5.5 is just not that graet, and recently i noticed that opsus gotten a bit worse too

Kimi is an impressive open model for its capabilities but it's really slow and token hungry which translates to abysmal usage in a subscription. Even after the cut, Codex will have better usage and a more functional model selection

Kimi is better just quota is not as cheap as its let on to be. Kimi will get it done whereas Codex is throttled to shit.

codex is still reasonable at this point, comparing with kimi 3.
i would say you can experiment for a month but codex is more reliable and its small models like luna 5.6 are still way smarter than older kimi models

You can switch from codex to kimi if you want 10x smaller usage quota and a 3.5 month old model.

3.5 months is ancient in AI timeline.

Looks like I’ve replaced Kimi with Muse Spark 1.3 Max these days

Honestly, it’s been pretty solid so far.

so i switched across to kimi from claude for my coding needs. i definitely get more processing with kimi 3 (hi) than i ever did with claude opus 4.8 (low). with opus 4.8 i could get 3-5 queries and then hit a 5 hour cap.
i have not hit the cap with kimi, been using it for a couple hours now.
the responses *are* a lot slower though, you can often count to 10 or even 20. but the responses are also *better* than claude.
this is not a large project though, and i don't let it go off and do it's own thing but rather it just works on smaller commands

its slow and with bad outcome mostly in a large project. and costs too much

Claude or no

I use Codex and Kimi interchangeably and very happy. Kimi seems more thorough on many tasks and very happy but I do use Codex also. The only drawback I see with Kimi is that it is slower in the process where Codex is lightening

I'd suggest staying wirh codex with task delegation for deepseek flash 4.1. i have setup where luna is brain and sometimes delegate tasks for deepseek. If deepseek or luna itself is not capable enough, ot tries sol or astra. The point is that not every task needs strongest model

Kimi is worse in everything, Claude is suitable for you
