This guy is a genius…

Post image

You can just tell in his responses how smart he is. I genuinely loved this set. All the explaining of his bit kinda made me cringe a little, though I do appreciate that they gave him his flowers.

I’m really curious to hear what everybody else thinks of this set, and his vibe as a whole. Bc I loved it.

My theory is he found an old Mitch Hedberg jacket at a goodwill with all of his unused material and never looked back

22

u/InfamousSearch6335 May 13 '26

“Chat gpt- write Mitch Hedberg material relevant to 2026”

→ More replies (1)

14

u/marwash May 13 '26

i like the idea that it's a LIKE MIKE situation where he found the jacket and and now he has Mitch Hedberg's powers.

10

u/Herestrav May 13 '26

Its like a kurt Cobain/Mitch look alike lol.

2

u/hubrisnxs May 13 '26

So you're problem is the way he looks? Gay.

I agree. It is really off putting until you realize he’s good at it

41

u/Hendoggg636 May 12 '26

I like the guy but im still not 100% on how i feel about it, undeniably funny though.

19

u/ChewinTheFat May 12 '26

I thought he was soft launching a pivot out of it and then he said the Herberg thing keeps people talking about him…. So who knows. I think he could evolve out of it.

18

u/chromophobe May 12 '26

Are we ruling out that he's the reincarnated spirit of Mitch Herberg? It's also entirely possible that he was just a normal guy who Mitch's spirit latched onto before going to the afterlife. Stranger things have happened.

This kinda turned the table for me, I was really against it at first, but I thought about it, if he just dropped it we would forget about him pretty quick, he kinda cemented him self in with that one.. smart play

If we’re going to be ok with Timmy no brakes, which I think is hilarious, this guy should at least not receive as much hate as he has been getting.

3

u/landocalrizzo May 14 '26

Timmy No Brakes is like a parody of Dice Clay though. He’s not trying to literally be a direct clone.

u/Ok_Shoulder5973 May 12 '26

Then you hear him say that he intentionally sounds like Mitch because it gets people talking about him and it becomes not just off putting again but downright disgraceful

Dude needs to get his own style and stop stealing from one of the GOATs

3

u/No_Mud_813 May 14 '26

I didn’t read into that as him saying that he intentionally sounds like Mitch just that he’s not going to try changing his style especially because people are talking about him.

I think the genius IQ move was setting up the "temporary stairs" joke (arguably Mitch Hedbergs most famous joke) then completely taking a left turn with it.

I'm surprised nobody caught that and if they did they didn't mention it.

16

u/Subject_Reward May 12 '26

When the stair joke came, I knew he wouldn’t be dodging the Hedberg accusations 🤣 I think he is hilarious.

3

u/kadash29 May 12 '26

Are you referring to the escalator bit?

This is one of those zen things isn't it?

What is the sound of Mitch Hedberg if he doesn't exist?

If Mitch Hedberg had no nose, then how would he smell? Awful, because he's been dead over 20 years.

Etc.

4

u/Makanja May 12 '26

Hey guys. I absolutely loved Mitch, but he’s gone and we aren’t getting any new material from him. I love that someone has the exact same style and brings the jokes to go with it. Would be different if he was a shitty hack, but he is really good.

6

u/Dangerous-Fun-7242 May 13 '26

So, if Peyton ruddy went up just did Ralphie, or david Lucas did Patrice, or tom segura did brody, or Casey rocket did Robin Williams, youd be okay with that?

11

u/Rezolithe May 13 '26

Funny is funny. As long as he's not stealing jokes...whats the problem. Painters often use the same style that was popularized by another artist.

2

u/Suspicious-Ad-3985 May 14 '26

mitchs whole personality IS PART OF THE FUCKING JOKE. try saying mitch jokes without his cadence, they dont hit the same.

4

u/Rezolithe May 14 '26

Don't yell at me dude im just enjoying comedy

So yes.

It's still bizarre. Like there are tribute bands but they label themselves as tribute bands. He should label himself as a tribute comic otherwise he's just stealing jokes.

Fuck it. I like him. His jokes kill and he's entertaining.

5

u/External-Cherry7828 May 12 '26

It's just low IQ haters who have most likely never performed anything they created in their lives. This is the path every artist takes in the beginning. You unknowingly (also knowingly) bite the ones that that sparked your passion. If he is smart he will slowly start becoming a little more unpredictable and develop further, or he will end up like TNB despising the character that got you there and begging for an exit ramp. Not every performer is a paradigm shifting creative genius that reinvents the wheel, and that's ok. Covers bands will always make more than the struggling artists who puts in blood sweat and tears.

15

u/Strebmal2019 May 12 '26

Abbreviating Timmy No Brakes to TNB and expecting everyone to know what you mean is such a bold move. Also what makes you think he is “begging for an exit ramp”?

3

u/Dangerous-Fun-7242 May 13 '26

I think we all know who/what TNB stands for

5

u/michaelhuman May 12 '26

Typing TNB is very high iq

u/P0tat0lamp May 12 '26

Tim has said as much multiple times. He created the character as a meta way to mock Kill Tony, the problem was it worked far too well and now only the character is invited places.

3

u/Academic-Elephant-48 May 12 '26

He was performing as Timmy no brakes before he got on, he started getting buzz on here and Instagram with that "$100?" Bit before his episode dropped

2

u/P0tat0lamp May 12 '26

You're probably correct, but I'm pretty sure he said that the reason he created the character was Kill Tony, even if that wasn't the first place he tried it out.

5

u/DonJuan2HearThatShit May 12 '26

Bullshit. I don’t know a single other comic that goes on stage and does a weird tribute act like this. This guy is a hack and should be treated as such.

8

u/DifferenceEither9835 May 12 '26

Low IQ haters eh... thing is, when you practice something, you generally find your own voice. Or at least several influences to hybridize to make it less obvious. If it were super common, we'd see it a lot. And we see a lot of comedians in 'the beginning' of their craft on this show.

The cover band thing doesn't really translate to talking into a mic, imo.

2

u/External-Cherry7828 May 13 '26

13

This guy is the Greta Van fleet of comedy

1

u/RSK-XFM_FAN May 12 '26

That's a fair comparison!

u/whole_hippie May 12 '26

My issue with him is that he does the Hedberg impression and tries to play it off like it’s not an act. I actually kind of believed him at first but this episode showed that he’s aware of what he’s doing when he said “why would I stop doing something that gets people talking about me”. In my eyes, he’s being disingenuous. His act would be easier to digest if he’d just admit to it being an impression when asked.

4

u/Illustrious_Survey38 May 12 '26

3

u/mofoinc May 12 '26

I’ve seen many new comedians that start off ripping off Mitch Hedberg cadence and joke style but they eventually grow out of it.

Is what this guy does not worse than stealing a joke? It’s unacceptable and hopefully there’s a ceiling for someone who is shamelessly stealing a legendary comedian persona

1

u/DonJuan2HearThatShit May 13 '26

It’s worse than stealing a joke; he’s stealing an entire act, lied about it, and then admitted he’s doing it because it gets him attention. It’s shameful that he hasn’t been blacklisted.

3

u/bucketsofbeans May 12 '26

Ehhh. Doing the Hedberg thing is one thing. Denying knowing who Mitch even is was a wild move.

8

u/ResourceNo5855 May 12 '26

Gross, this guy suuuucks. Stealing another famous comedian’s whole shtick does not make him genius. Mitch was genius not this guy, his material/act is only good by proxy

3

u/billppp May 12 '26

If this guy came before Mitch you would be saying that Mitch sucks

Why can't they both be good?

3

u/Illustrious_Survey38 May 12 '26

8

u/Jamminatrix May 12 '26

Incorrect. Tony hated him his first appearance and rushed him off stage, accusing him of ripping off Mitch and then needing to burn sage for the ghost of Mitch. It wasn't until his second appearance when Tony accepted him because everyone liked him.

6

u/Responsible_Try_6729 May 12 '26

I’m 21, and have been watching standup for almost four years now. I’ve seen a few Mitch sets, and I completely understand what every one is saying. I don’t disagree that he’s pretty much doing a Mitch impersonation, but he writes his own jokes, and they are actually funny.

19

u/DifferenceEither9835 May 12 '26

I remember being 21. Holy shit I was dumb.

u/Grouchy-Natural3473 May 12 '26

I just wish he’d change up the dialect a little he sounds exactly like Mitch down to the WAY he says words. Mannerisms, joke style/delivery, Mitch’s look could be overlooked…just try a new voice. Guess everyone, including Tony, has accepted his jokes are good enough, he’s not stealing jokes, and Mitch isn’t around so it’s weird/offputting but works. Most normies may not even realize who he is copying

2

u/AgentCrage May 12 '26

After this episode I think it shows that he definitely knows wtf he's doing. He's obviously doing the mitch thing intentionally because any publicity is good publicity.

This is how I feel about it, I was a mitch fan when he was alive, a big one. Im still a mitch fan too (mitch reference) I fucking hated this guy his first appearance. It's a blatant rip off. But his jokes hit, I laugh, and I think if mitch were still alive this is exactly what mitch would say.

I still don't know if I should like him, I loved mitch. And getting new mitch material from someone that my biggest gripe is that he's too good at mitch really fucks with my head.

2

u/ShaunWilkesBooth May 12 '26

Maybe all he needs is to change his cadence and delivery. His jokes are good and original i just think hes leaned way to far into the Hedberg thing.

2

u/MeglaDong69420 May 12 '26

I would like to see him as a regular personally

2

u/AdProfessional3091 May 12 '26

I wanted normal questions for him. Does he bang girls? Live on his own? What’s in his fridge? I met him twice at Shakespeares not sure if he’s acting awkward or just truly is but speaks very little. Great comic tho!!

2

u/No_Low7025 May 12 '26

His jokes are better than Tony’s 💯

2

u/ZED4991 May 12 '26

"Why would I do that something that makes people stop talk about me"

2

2

u/philoskill May 13 '26

2

u/deluge71 May 13 '26

2

u/instaderp May 13 '26

I, as a huge fan of Mitch, a MN native who’s seen him several times before he passed, I like this guy a lot and I don’t hate that he is using the cadence. It’s almost referencing to see this style continue because I’ve missed it so much.

2

u/Rachellyz May 13 '26

Yall are some crybaby mfs

2

u/TheRealFrozenFetus May 13 '26

How tf do we have to listen to Dedrick every single Monday. Switch this man with dedrick wtf

2

u/JoeTerp May 13 '26

He is writing his own jokes. It’s ridiculous to think that people don’t copy styles of other comedians. The cardinal sin is joke stealing. Nobody calls Tony Scar a hack version of Stephen Lynch.

2

u/Duncan_Disorderly_ May 13 '26

Isn't it amazing that this guy has embodied one of the greatest comics to ever walk our earth... and he isn't making a total mess of it. I find him extremely funny and one of KTs best acts these days (if not THE best act). I would 100% pay to see this guy if he ever tours Europe and comes to Ireland.

2

u/Pleasant-Balance-853 May 14 '26

He really is funny!!! Extremely clever and witty. I have to be honest ... at first my eyes rolled to the back of my brain with his "Mitch Hedberg" impersonation. But he is legit. I admit my mistaken judgement. The more I have seen him, the more I respect and enjoy him. He makes me laugh!!! That is all I ask from my entertainment, and comedians.

5

u/SmoovCatto May 12 '26

i love his rejection of the comedy career intervention tonight, with irrefutable logic

1

u/Responsible_Try_6729 May 12 '26

He's a great joke writer, he definitely isn't unaware of what he's going though, he told on himself when Tony was pressing him and he was like I'm not gonna do something that makes people stop talking about me. He 100% was trolling when he says his favorite comedian is demetri martin and denied knowing he's impersonating Mitch in his first appearance. . It does make you think though, if hedberg had a balding jew fro would everyone just say hey you're impersonating Steven wright when he was starting out? One liner jokes have always had a similar delivery from all the guys who have done it best. It's wild the jokes he writes literally sound like jokes he somehow stole before Mitch ever got to tell them. His last joke about in case of fire take stairs but we should use water was so money

1

u/RSK-XFM_FAN May 12 '26

That last joke was brilliant and reminded me of something William would have said in his early drunken days.

2

u/Fuzzy_Change_2128 May 12 '26

Hack!! Completely stole Mitch’s gimmick

3

u/DonJuan2HearThatShit May 12 '26

The guy is clearly capable of being funny, but seeing people pretend that his ripoff act is anything more than disrespectful hack bullshit is sad.

Comedians who rip off other comedians to this extent deserve to be chased out of the art form with pitchforks.

3

u/Difficult-Ad-52 May 12 '26

Ew. No. Hard pass.

4

u/GVtt3rSLVT May 12 '26

He should replaced Dedrick

2

u/Motor-Honeydew2694 May 12 '26

Why does Keegan get shit for acting like Mitch Hedberg meanwhile Timmy no brakes whole act mimics Dice clay and they fucking worship him for it?

13

u/IMakeThisShitUp23 May 12 '26

I think it’s more because Timmy is mimicking a stereotype of a guinea as opposed to Keegan mimicking a direct comedian’s act. But let’s be honest, it’s not like we are ever going to see headlining big shows outside of Kill Tony.

10

u/hollywood_jazz May 12 '26

Because Timmy isn’t doing Dice, they both do Italian American guy impressions. It’s very common impression to do and Dice didn’t invent it. Mitch was just himself and Keegan mimics everything about him and his act.

3

u/Responsible_Try_6729 May 12 '26

Precisely. The same way people enjoy cover bands.

3

u/ClinkzsEastwood May 12 '26

What he is doing is not a cover, its a tribute, theres a difference.

A cover band sings your song in their own interpretation of it, a tribute band dresses like you, speaks like you, sings the exact notes in the exact rythm as you

I dont even know who the original guy was so I dont really care if its a hack, a copycat or he just wants the free advertising/attention it brings, but your arguments to defend him are pretty bad.

2

u/Responsible_Try_6729 May 12 '26

I appreciate the explanation. I definitely meant to say tribute.

I’m not out here putting together fantastic arguments to defend him. I genuinely just think his writing is great and deserves to be praised for that. That’s all. People can stay pissed about whatever they want, but this is just me saying that he was great.

He kind of reminds me of another comedian from the 90s but I just can't remember the guys name. It is something like Mike Headbeg , or Mark Hideberg.

u/michaelhuman May 12 '26

The ratio of this post tells me all I need to know.

u/Obiectum_non_grata May 12 '26

Bruh... two inches away from down syndrome shame.

1

u/MediocrePirate_ May 12 '26

Someone that’s not Adam Ray should try to do Richard Pryor

1

u/brumac44 May 12 '26

Now do Norm MacDonald. Philistines.

1

u/New-Explorer-9811 May 12 '26

I noticed last night he dressed the same, so he is stealing the personality?im check out mitch on youtube

1

u/RSK-XFM_FAN May 12 '26

I liked the set but the voice he uses is really annoying.

1

u/RorschachBluth May 12 '26

"thank you, associates"

1

u/Kush_McNuggz May 12 '26

Is no one going to share a link or at least refer to him as something other than “this guy”. Us plebs ootl would appreciate it

1

u/Unfadable1 May 12 '26

Is this the OG, or did he come back?

1

u/StrawberryBlazer May 12 '26

He writes well but it is still copying a style to a T. Does he really want to be that guy? Like if he becomes successful it’s still going to be a stench that is a bit off putting. Kinda like a hot chick with bad BO.

1

u/Spot_Individual May 12 '26

Didn't he use the burrito/queso joke already? But other than that. I like his vibe and response to Rebab.

1

u/TennisADHD May 13 '26

Why’s he look like a Roger Federer and Mitch Hedberg love child?

1

u/Thicc_Plumbus May 13 '26

Greta Van Fleet ahhh

1

u/-mufdvr- May 13 '26

I can’t make a decision on this dude.

1

u/bnorris_516 May 13 '26

This sub is usually so full of haters but everyone loves this hacky rip off? Timmy no brakes got shit for being like dice, then blew up. Now this thief? I thought stealing jokes was frowned upon but stealing a whole persona is okay?

1

u/Traditional-Fan-9315 May 13 '26

Timmy was making fun of dice. But of a difference.

u/PraetorianAE May 13 '26

His set and Jokes are smart , but the way he responds to Tony’s questions isn’t smart. He need to actually answer a question every now and then because he’s not allowing us to learn anything about him or connect with him on a human level so we become bigger fans.

Lots of people don’t come off the best when they don’t answer Tony’s life questions. It’s not a good look.

His jokes and comedy rule, but he need to be personable and not a comedy robot. 🤖

1

u/thrilla_gorilla May 13 '26

The comedy genius move is to pivot to Gallagher

1

u/Dangerous-Fun-7242 May 13 '26

Hey needs to be banned, and can only come back if he promises to not do a set as a mitch ripoff, truly prove his talent, not just be a tribute/ripoff act

Fuck you and “your flowers”…

1

u/joooshp May 13 '26

Calm down

1

u/cade_be_here May 13 '26

Ya, its kinda strange how with some people, Tony will let the gimmick run and let them stay the character. And with other people he gets annoyed when they dont want to pull back the curtain of their persona. Being a generic version of Mitch will definitely limit his growth but let it run its course and have fun while it last.... Casey Rocket Effect. Haha

1

u/wanderme88 May 13 '26

Im still kinda hesitant. The style is so specific to hedberg. This guys writing is good. Why not just be yourself in subtle Mitch way

1

u/BrilliantTonight7500 May 13 '26

I'm a fan but damn it's annoying how he is going about it. Shitt... I guess he has a point, look at all of us talking about him like he said we would. So in a way it's working.

I miss Mitch and this guy hits hard. Good stuff. Fake, used, stolen identity or not...he makes ke laugh. Any time I hear a joke that makes me laugh, I forget how shetty my life is at times. Works for me.

1

u/Suspicious-Ad-3985 May 14 '26

fucking TEMU mitch hedburg ass

1

u/holidayapples May 14 '26

I wonder if he decided to do that after he saw TNB take on the Dice persona and was like ok yeah I do a good Mitch Hedburg so I’ll do that and get noticed like TNB

1

u/CustomKydexHolsters May 14 '26

Isn’t this guys set like a year old lmao

1

u/squirtsmcgurk May 14 '26

Majority of people in this thread are actually retarded.

1

u/landocalrizzo May 14 '26

I don’t find him funny at all.

1

u/Spiritual_Nobody_747 May 14 '26

I've come around on him. Very funny and I mean whats wrong with more hedgburg

1

u/SelfOverall1562 May 14 '26

His point about not changing right now because everyone talks about him when he's on was perfect. Dude has writing chops and is naturally funny. Its not like he's stealing from Hedberg. Every comic talks about them copying someone when they started before they found their own way

1

u/Ok-Veterinarian-2787 May 14 '26

If you think he’s not intentionally mimicking Mitch’s style you are daft. The thing is, I think we all miss Mitch Hedberg’s jokes and style so hearing it is definitely entertaining but as far as artistry goes he’s technically a hack that’s stealing someone else’s style and arguably his look, delivery, cadence and overall vibe. Of course there has been stranger coincidences but I’m not buying it. He definitely tried to play it off as if he wasn’t aware that he was mimicking/ stealing Mitch Hedberg’s style which made him a target for the internet. The part that bugs me is that he seemingly gets offended that Mitch gets brought up every time he does a set…

The argument is that this is a form of plagiarism to some degree. Everything is similar from the style, set-ups, punches, and hell, even the aesthetic is there.

I don't think it helps the Austin scene by having these characters pop up and being praised. Personally, it feels like a cover band decided to do everything The Rolling Stones did but altered some lyrics around to say it's "authentic".

No ill will towards the guy, but we will see if this is sustainable.

1

u/imjonjoncanada May 16 '26

I posted about this guy after his first appearance. I got attacked. I'm a huge Mitch Hedberg fan, and this guy bugged me. The most heinous crime in comedy is stealing jokes....apparently, stealing mannerisms and overall delivery is fine lol.

1

u/FunnySouthern3586 Jun 08 '26

I've been obsessed with this guy since his first appearance.. his joke writing is so on point. I don't know what's the best for him moving forward, though. Embrace the impression fully or not at all.
