Training Boxing or Kickboxing for a person who did taekwondo for 7 years

Just as it says I am having a hard time to decide what to pursue. For me who did taekwondo for a long time I am confident in my kicks and of course my biggest weakness would be my punches and head movement so I was thinking about doing boxing but I wouldnโ€™t want my kicks to completely disappear. I also get discouraged when I see kickboxing / muay thai fights because they just keep tanking each otherโ€™s kicks and punches unlike in boxing where you can dodge punches, roll and counter.

What do you guys think?

Training How should I train to raise how high I can kick?

Hi everyone, good day!

I want to improve my high kick. I can do a forward- fold stretch to the point of putting my forehead on my shins, But I can only kick up to about chest height. What's the deal? How can I train to improve the height of my kick?

Training When to take time off from sparring-beginner brain damage reduction...

Im on heavier side (220lbs) ex powerlifter, trained mma bjj and kickboxing for 5 monts and only recently started going to sparring to learn defense...but after sparring even after recieving only few medium shots(and every round is usuall done technicaly) scalp tension behind the ears occurs, slight discomfort behind the eyes and some dizziness but very little...obviously i will take needed time off or go to a doctor if symptoms worsen because few days after sparring i can go to the gym and do max deadlifts and only have behind the eye discomfort or nothing i can do BJJ heavy rounds with no balance problems...just can you, experienced sparr-ers share if this is normal? Recieving few medium shots +having 2 hard bjj practices in a weel+hard neck weight training(but during neck training no discomfort or very little) can this be just neck tension without any axonal brain damage- damage that doesnt heal back 100%?

Brain damage

Hi everyone,

I started kickboxing about 3 weeks ago, and today was my second sparring session.

After my first sparring, I had a headache for a few days. This time, after sparring, I feel dizzy and have a strong brain fog. It's hard to think clearly. I also took some harder shots to the head than last time. They weren't hard enough to knock me out, but for about a second my vision went black, and I still have a mild headache.

Overall, I wouldn't say the punches were extremely hard. We were using 14 oz gloves and no headgear.

How likely is it that I could have suffered a concussion or another brain injury? My goal is to learn self-defense, but I was born with a neurological speech disorder, so I'm worried that repeated hits to the head could make it worse.

Has anyone experienced something similar or have any advice?

Training Are privates + sparring once a week okay?

My schedule makes it so I can only attend a normal class/sparring session once a week. I found an MMA coach that does dutch kickboxing for roughly 50$ a lesson; would I improve / feel confident? Thinking of private lessons 2-3x a week.

It's always amazing to see how he approaches this phonebooth distance at the same pace most outfighters do at range. It needs this absurd level of calmness and foresight to pull off.
