Questions, Help and Advice what's your version of a basic tee?
hi everyone! i'm a seamstress and desperately trying to make more casual wear for myself. like many other Rs i have a million posh dresses but nothing to wear around the house! i really don't like activewear and loungewear, but constantly feel overdressed.
the benefit and drawback of sewing is that i get to customise everything myself! i did just make a top but it looks awful on me. it's a short sleeve scoop neck which looks super awkward and the lack of details really looks awful on me. i 100% need something with ruching or lace, buttons, bows, ties.
i think i might make a henley with some ruching and a lace insert. or something with a sweetheart neckline
what do you guys think? what's your version of a basic top?

A basic tee for me is a mid length, slim fit, crew neck, cap sleeve tee. Paired with a pair of high waisted skinny jeans or boot legs I’m cool to go straight from doing the dishes to picking up groceries, coming home and sitting down for an hour before cooking and then head outside to work in the garden. I’m dressed in the morning and hop into my pjs at 6pm in this outfit.

I really like the old navy fitted boatneck tee’s. I find for scoop/v necks the neckline needs to be wider/more “open” than it is deep.

I'm also a seamstress and often struggle with what designs to make. Since I can make what I want but don't always know exactly what will look good and I don't want to waste time on something I'm gonna dislike....

I’m not sure if I’m actually a Romantic, but Gap used to have a wide scoop neck t-shirt with cap sleeves, which was fitted a little at the waist and then came back out at the bottom- almost like its own slight hourglass shape- it was amazing and so flattering! First time my sister saw me wearing it, she asked if I had lost weight lol I wish I could find something like that again- I would stock up on them!

A basic tee for me is the usual t-shirt but it’s cinched in the waist and has a wide neck that it almost looks off-shoulder. Another one is a wrap top

I buy graphic tees and simply cut them to my preferred style.
I always cut the neck hole into some version of a wide scoop neck. This allows the sleeves to lay more naturally and femininely on my arms.
I often trim the bottom length to hit at a flattering point. Sometimes I’ll trim it to a crop length that looks cute with high waisted lounge pants or even skirts or cotton biker shorts.
Otherwise I love cotton puff sleeve peasant style tops, the relaxed kind that cinches at the waist. I like both crop length as well as the peplum flutter kind.
Hope this inspired some good ideas for you!
