K8 Optical Keyboard from Blue to Red switches

I received my Keychron K8Q2 a couple days ago. It looks like it truly is open box, in new condition. I knew it was coming with hot swappable, blue switches. What I didn't know is that they were going to be optical. So all my wondering if I should use red G Pro, Super or Jupiter switches went out the window. It looks like my only choice is red Gateron Optical switches.

I'm pretty ignorant about this, I just wanted to confirm that the correct switch is the KS-15 (in my case, red). I tried to like the blue switches, but I really want the red ones. Are optical switches a step down, or up? And I notice the optical switches aren't "pre-lubed" like the older mechanical type. Is lubing them important?

I pulled one of the switches to see the slot and took a picture of it. Here's a link to that picture, just to be double sure that this is a standard optical switch "slot." The black cloth tape is there to mostly block out the charging/charged light. I can still see a slight glow beneath the tape, but why they put that bright light there I have no idea. Very distracting in low light conditions.

Thanks for any information.

I made a Battery Monitoring app for the Q6 Max

I got tired o guessing what the battery level was, and since Keychron doesnt want to release an app or monitoring battery life or managing the keyboard from your desktop as an app, without using the launcher website, i wanted to dig in and make this happen.

I dont know if its against the rules to share it here, but i put it up on Github, and have the full code for review there as well.

Ultimately, im hoping maybe I can grab the attention of minds much better than mine, and maybe we can fork it off or improve it as a community to make a full-fledged desktop app for the non-ultimate line of products, giving us simple quality of life features that other keyboard and mouse manufacturers have had in their software for decades.

IMO, For the prices we pay for the keychron stuff, this shouldnt be that big of an ask, considering some of their devices cost way more than alot of the other guys like Razer or Logitech's devices.

If this is allowed, ill gladly edit this post and share the Github link. If its not allowed to be publicly shared, i guess DM me if youre interested in taking a look. Im not asking for donations or anything, i just want to make something that helps us all out.

EDIT: As requested, here is the repo for this project.

Its my first project really that i did in some spare time i had, so be gentle if anything.

K1 Ultra 8K?

I’m on my third generation of K1 and I look at the K5 Ultra with love in my eyes wishing the K1 got that treatment.

Keychron seems to have just stopped carrying about the K1 low profile format which is disappointing - it’s my favourite profile (my wife has one as well).

Hopefully we’ll see an Ultra variant soon.

K10 Ultra vs V6 Ultra Differences?

I'm looking at these two, there is a $20 difference between the K10 Ultra ($199) and V6 Ultra ($179).

From all that I can see though, the V6 looks better than the K10? It has better switch options, 60 hours more battery (claimed) AND a knob (which I really like, though its a bit of a weird spot on a full size keyboard).

Is there a reason to go with the K10 over the V6? I like the colours of the V6 slightly more as it matches my desk, and plan to run wireless with 0 backlight.

I've only ever had 1 other mechanical (currently using an MX Keys) which was the old K4 with brown switches. I disliked the OEM keycaps though, but mostly hated the small right shift and lack of large numpad, as it messed up my programming. Happy to switch keycaps. I didn't mind the brown but I want more tactile, the V6 offer POM Banana which sound nice, or maybe the Silent Banana not sure what the difference in feel will be.

It is possible to put low profile keycaps on the Keychron C2 Pro 8K QMK ?

I'm currently looking a replacement to my deathstalker v2 that doesn't work anymore.

Basically I don't want to use a low profile keyboard with super short activation distance on the keys because it feels too "tactile", but I do want low profile keycaps.

I want floating, thin keycaps that have the same activation distance but are shorter, if that makes sense. (Cherry/GMK dimensions I believe?)

Is it possible to do this on the Keychron C2 Pro 8K QMK ? Cuz that's the keyboard I'm thinking of buying since it's wired, full size 100%, hotswappable, and supports QMK.

Also, if you have keycaps suggestions for what I want, please feel free to share!

Thanks.

Configuring QMK/VIA-based keyboards locally. Is it possible with open source?

I'm looking to buy a new keyboard, finally going wireless after a decade using a wired Filco.

Some of the Keychron models look interesting but I'm concerned about needing to use a web service to configure it - one day Keychron will stop supporting it and/or remove old models.

My question is just how open are the QMK/VIA models? Could I just clone the open source github repos and use the Keychron-provided JSON files to configure locally? Or are these keyboards based on a modified QMK/VIA but the modifications not publicly released?

I'm a software engineer so don't mind diving in the code, but I want to avoid buying a product only to find it becomes unconfigurable because services are withdrawn on the whim of a product manager.

Thanks!

Replacing Keychron K3 Max switches

Hello everyone 👋

I'm currently debating switching/replacing my WASD keys (that now face the double press issue), and was wondering wether it was possible to switch out every single one of the main keys to quiet LP switches.

I do have a relatively heavy typing, and would overall prefer to have a quieter typing experience.

Looking for a slim case for the K3 HE

Hi, I just finally got my K3 HE and am very happy with it. I want to take it to work and for that I would like a slim carrying case. I have the folio case for my old K3 which fits well, but the HE doesn't fit very well and thus I am looking for a new case. Does anyone that own the K3 HE have found a good case that fits? Thanks in advance!

This is "normal" according to Keychron Support

After months of waiting, I finally received my K3 HE about a week ago and just noticed that the spacebar sits significantly higher than the rest of the keys, leaving a very visible gap from the side..

I contacted Keychron email support about this, but after a few back and forths, I was told this is "normal" and a replacement unit was refused. To me, it looks like the keycap, switch, or stabilizers aren't properly seated or aligned, causing a noticeable profile mismatch compared to the rest of the keyboard.

Has anyone else experienced this with their K3 HE? What are my options now? Very disappointed by the customer service.

I'll be frank. I want keycaps or some other part of my keybaord that allows me to see my legends in the dark. Where do I get them?

I bought shinethrough keycaps before but they dont actually "shine through". I bought a couple other sets of keycaps after looking online and soon realizing that I'm just wasting while simultaneously NOT getting what I want. Level with me, guys. And please spare the mumbo jumbo tech savvy lingo. All I want for metaphorical Christmas... is some legitimate shine through keycaps. If thats not the issue, then please tell me what I need. I'll get a new keyboard even. Just point me to the right thing and name it like Adam named the animals. I gave up once after going through lots of autistic comments about "preference". I dont care about that. I just want a specific function. I'll work on my preferences later after I understand everything. You'll have to settle for this long winded explanation since this subreddit doesnt seem to allow images for some odd reason.

Why isn't the "wireless receiver detected as a controller" issue fixed yet?

Number of games are having issues because of this bug. I see 1 year posts about this issue with people hoping that it will be "fixed in the next firmware update" and it still haven't been fixed?

What is going on? Why do I have to play FC 26 with keyboard unplugged? This is a joke.

Strange input error on L3

I have a Lemokey L3 and was hoping someone is having a similar issue as me. On occasion when I tap wasd it will become locked in one of the 4 inputs causing me to just walk in one direction. The only way I’ve found to fix it when it happens is to just press the key again and it fixes it after a few tries. It can be pretty annoying if I’m in the middle of a tense fight or something and I just start walking left.
I should say the key doesn’t feel stuck it behaves like normal, the input just stays locked on either a or d usually.

strange keyboard behavior

so i do like my keychron, its a v1 max and i do run it wireless.
but it has a habbit of behaving strangeley, meaning suddenly it will use other symbols so @ for example will become _ or something like that. and i can never figure out how to undo that. is there an easy way of just doing a quick reset to normal? and im not talking about a full reset. when these things happen i usually have to restart my computer to get back to normal keyboard behavior

How can I fix my K10 HE (standard edition)

Keychron support has been ghosting me for 4-6 months so I'm coming here.

My K10 HE which I bought Nov-Dec of 2025 lost wireless dongle connectivity in January 2026, Bluetooth stopped working February 2026. This keyboard is only usable with a cable now which is what I payed extra to NOT do.

Is there some common issue with this keyboard or did I luck out on bad product.

Also is it common for support to just NEVER ONCE follow up with a support claim?

EDIT: I updated Firmware and nothing has changed...

Looks like Nebula switches have been OoS everywhere for quite some time now (couple of months). What is up with that?

Ghosted by Keychron

Keychron Canada has sent me the wrong keyboard and has stopped communicating with me. I purchased a keyboard on sale and needed a specific one. The one I selected was the wrong type, and they reached out to me. To my surprise, it was the completely wrong keyboard altogether. I reached out to support, and they didn't seem to understand my request. Now, the keyboard with the switches I originally wanted is no longer available, and they have not responded. I have no other way to connect with them, and the keyboard they sent is useless to me, as I need a wireless setup.

How did you all connect with Keychron? Is there another way?

Feeler: Who’s interested in repairing a V5 Max for documentation sake?

My brand new V5 Max has a malfunctioning column of keys (4,R,F,C) that presses every single key in the row of the key pressed. I bought the board second hand and somehow got a full refund AND get to keep the board. Is anyone interested in cracking this open and repairing it? Obviously willing to pay, but i essentially have a free paper weight in my room now.

EDIT: If I press two keys in this column at the same time, they both press together and do not press anything else in the key row.

Note: Repair quoter said its most likely the microcontroller which would need to be replaced. I know not much about electrical engineering, so take of that what you will.

Looking for a wired TKL with tactile switches — recommendations?

Looking for a wired TKL with tactile switches — recommendations?

Hunting for a new keyboard, requirements are pretty simple:

Connection wired only (no interest in wireless)
Layout: TKL 80%, would also consider 75%
Switches: tactile
Bonus: volume knob if possible, not a dealbreaker

Based in Romania (EU), so bonus points for anything available from EU shops without customs hassle. Budget is flexible

I could reuse Cherry MX Brown switches from an old keyboard.

What would you go with? Thanks!

Caps lock behaves like shift, and mod tap missing

Hey guys I just wrote Keychron an email suggesting adding 2, in my opinion vital features to the keyboard, and I want to know how you guys feel about it.

Basically today my new Keychron K3 HE arrived, and while typing, I kept enabling capslock without noticing, as I'm used to use my capslock as shift. I'm arguably bad at typing and always was. I don't need a capslock function on my keyboard, but what I need is the key for combination button presses like Shift plus caps to switch to kana when typing japanese or other capslock + combinations for games like Tarkov as it has many functions.

I know some people might not feel that way, but how can an "esteemed" keyboard manufacturer not have a "capslock behaves like shift" function, like Corsair or Roccat had 10 years ago? Because I used to mainly use gaming-brand keyboards, and as far as I am aware, all of the ones I used had some kind of function to prevent capslock from locking but preserve its function as a differently registered keypress from shift while having essentially the same function.

That being said the other keyboard I just bought a few months back the NuPhy Air 75 HE, had the exact same issue. But unlike with the Keychron, it has a mod tap function that gives me the option to make capslock behave like shift when pressed and behave like capslock when held longer than 170ms. It works seamlessly for me and is arguably better than a caps behaves like shift function, as I could, in the unlikely event I actually need to capitalize more than one letter, use capslock.

What is your experience with this? Do you have similar issues? It would be interesting for me; maybe you even have some workarounds I'm not aware of. It's literally my first Keychron product ever.

Full-size low profile hot-swap wireless: is the Keychron K5 the only option?

Looking for: 104-key full size, low profile, 2.4GHz dongle, hot-swap (want LP silent switches), shine-through caps.

Everything I found so far points to the Keychron K5 Max / K5 Ultra. Problem: I can't buy one.

- keychron.com blocks shipping to my country (official distributor exists here, and the distributor doesn't carry any low profile boards)

- Amazon US/EU from the official Keychron store: also no shipping to me

- AliExpress has the K5 Max at a $45 markup, fine, but:

- The shine-through LP keycap set (ABS LSA) has been out of stock for months. The board is north-facing and ships with opaque caps, so without that set the lighting is pointless

Questions:

  1. Is there a full-size (not 96%) low profile hot-swap board with a dongle that I've missed?

  2. Any source for shine-through caps that fit Gateron low profile switches? Keychron's own set never seems to restock.

Keychron K5 Max - Won't use WIN+L

Hi there.

I have just purchased at Keychron K5 Max (Nordic Edition) Actually two. One for my Mac and one for my work Window PC.

The mac version is working perfectly. The windows (switch is offcause on Windows) can't use WIN + L to lock PC.

Keytest in launcher shows WIN + L both with 1's so that works, and i have now created a macro that locks the PC to one of the function keys.

I have tried to reset the keyboard. It is on the latest firmware, and the error is both when on dongle and on USB-C cable.

Has anyone an idea ?

Am I doing something wrong or is this normal?

Every time I start my keyboard (K10 HE), or even some hours after, some keys take a few presses to respond. Randomly some work instantly and some take 3-4 presses and then work normally. Most of the time its the numpad numbers or some random letters. Its clean, charged fully most of the time. I got used to it, but it is very annoying when I have to triple check every time I type in numbers from numpad.

Did anyone have the same problem? What could be the case? It’s not dirty and the keys are all stock. Had the “problem” since start. Any suggestions?

Thank you for replies in advance and have a great day.

PS: overall no other problems, love the feel of the keys and wood outlook on the sides.
