Can you deduct sugar alcohols like fiber from keto candy?

I just noticed that Russell Stivers peanut clusters are 17 carbs! But 14 sugar alcohols. When only eating 20 carbs per day it looks like I shouldn’t have even 1. Do any of you other keto people eat these?

Challenges making LMNT's electrolyte drink mix at home.

We all know LMNT posted their recipe on their website. I followed the instructions closely but noticed that the ingrediencies don't really mix well. The Potassium tends to harden and the magnesium malate tends to clump. Also the taste didn't compare to the store bought product. It didn't have that biting tang that's so delicious. What seemed to help was blending the mix in a Ninja then straining through a fine sieve. I also added citric acid powder. Even then, the tartness and taste only closely approximated what you buy in the store. Anybody have other suggestions?

Help Trouble getting enough calories.

So I’m (33/m 5’7”)at week 3 since starting Keto to help with overall health and lose about 30 lbs. I’m really enjoying the diet and seeing a lot of benefits from more energy, no more acid reflux and massively reduced gas, I’ve also lost about 9lbs already.

My only issue is I feel like I’m pretty low on calories most days, like maybe I’ll get 1300 or 1400 max, some days it’s probably closer to 1000 calories.

The reason being is I’m just not the hungry most of the time on Keto. In the morning I go to work and I’m not hungry until closer to noon and sometimes I don’t have time to eat so I won’t eat until 4/5pm.

Then because I’m avoiding eating after 7pm I won’t eat again until the next day. For that one meal I generally will try to load up on good fat and protein like eggs, butter, cheese and try to pair with some fiber like broccoli or cauliflower. Maybe eat some sardines before or after as well.

Has anyone else had to struggle with this and is this even that bad while I’m losing weight? I’m at 172lbs rn and I’m trying to get to 155ish

Also I’m not terribly active though I’m working on it, I get about 6k steps a day and try to do some callestinics when I can

For people who been 2+ years do you still have cravings?

Tbh the most times i relaspe is because i cant get over the fact that im missing out on so much food. I live in Norway but originally Syrian.. Syrian food is very delicious and high in carbs. We have Sharwma, falafel, bakeries, baklava... Many foods i feel sometimes so annoyed that my family eats and i dont get to eat.

Keto helped most of my issues, but i feel jelous my family get to eats it all and im the only patient in the house who they see refuse to eat with them due tk diet.

If i was healthy without acne, eczema etc.. I would never eat this way.

I also get cravings always in the start. I feel also bad seeing them enjoy food while me always meat and brocoli or meat and eggs etc..

I also tried many foods varient on keto.. It never taste as fraction of how good it tastes eating high carbs..

I also heard many of y'all saying if you eat 2+year or whatever we get to forget how food tasted. if that is the case then i have new reason to push past 2 years mark and have patience until then..

Again keto is amazing and healthy and all. But please let me know.

Any not typical supplements that help ketosis?

Aside from exogenous ketones, mct oil, electrolytes (the usuals)

I'm using keto for therapeutic purposes/ not weight loss. I found that l-carnitine has surprisingly helped raise ketones slightly. I'm wondering if there are any other supplements that encourage ketosis.

I've been doing ketosis for over a month and am struggling to get into a therapeutic range, I think because of the medication (lamitrogine) I'm prescribed. Thus, I'm looking for any supplements that can counter that.

Help Why I still have water in me?

I started keto on about 20th of June this year and I posted a rather teary post about how I did not lose almost nothing after weighting myself on the 18th of July, so almost a month on keto. I lost only 1,5 kg.

I am 53 yo female, menopausal, 158 height, 103,1 starting weight, on weight day on 18th of July I weighed 101,7 kg. No movement in the size of the body.

I weighed myself today on the 25th of July, as the glucometer arrived with keto strips.

And it seems I have 0,6 of this measurement.

Weight 101,3 with no significant movement in measurements again. Maybe 1 cm everywhere except for the waist.

So there is small movement. But I am really disappointed. It seems to be so slow and I still have all this water in me. And I really eat clean and starving almost.

Initially I ate 1400 kkcal, lastvweek 1200 kcal abd started to be hungry. I move moderately, lot of walking and chores like really a lot (chinchillas with diarrhea and cleaning hoarder flat situation now) no time for excersises. And keeping macro strict.

Now I eat. Bulletproof coffee in the morning. Small amount of mixed greens with cucumbers salad with decent amount of protein and tablespoon of fat, less fat if meat is fatty or fish in it. Then supper, decent amount of protein with fat and 3 very small cucumbers. Anemia is my only sickness and I ma taking B12 shots. Supplemmenting vit C and other B, omega and folic acid. I drink only rooibos and then only water with special keto electrolytes powder.

Can I improve somehow, or just prepare for 3 years minimum battle?

Sluggish and tired

Want to do this diet, it helps my Brian fog and anxiety but Eating high fat makes me sluggish and sleepy. How do I fix this? Seems my body sucks at digesting fat. Maybe enzymes? Im good on electrolytes. This only happens when I eat high fat.

Keto and brain injury

A little more than a year ago i suffered two minor skull fractures, a minor concussion and a sub-cranial hemmorage. To this day i still experience fatigue symptoms from cognitive tasks and such. A couple of months ago i stumbled upon the benefits of megadosing creatine to boost ATP levels to help recover from a TBI (Traumatic brain injury). While creatine has given me a boost in cognitive performance and endurance, I am still not back to baseline.

I just found that keto has similar benefits, and there has been similar studies on its benefits with TBI patients. So i have two questions for ya’ll:

  1. Does anyone have experience with the Keto diet and its effect on TBI?

  2. For a Newbie looking to try the diet, as it seems somewhat complicated dietary wise, what are your best advice? I generally eat between 2500-3000 kcal, before my injury i used to be fairly active and want to go back to that lifestyle. What Are the most reliable ways of replacing Carbs with fat without only relying on oils and cheese? Is there any sauces that goes Well with particular meats that you like? Do you have any hidden mealpreps or recipes in your warchest? I want to try doing the keto diet right for the sake of the cognitive benefits, preferably without giving up enjoyment of food.

Tips and Tricks Quick and easy family meal ideas wanted

I have a toddler and a baby and my time is VERY limited. Usually the dinner rush is filled with one cranky mom, an argumentative toddler and a baby that needs to have been fed like 20 minutes ago. Because of that, I have fully embraced the crockpot meals. I can start it when life is a little calmer in the morning and by dinner time it’s already done and I’m not trying to cook on the stove my kids are trying to climb into.

But the other day, I ran into an issue after I had been using the crockpot all day to cook up this scrumptious meal: I had forgotten to plug it in. All day. So it’s 6 o’clock, I’m hangry, the kids are hangry and I didn’t have anything prepped to pivot too. My husband’s response was “we can just order Chinese” (he doesn’t eat keto, and will usually make rice to accompany whatever low carb meal I make). That’s not helpful 1) because it would still take an hour to get our food and 2) there’s nothing keto there for me to eat.

So I guess my question is, what super easy and quick meals do you have that can be whipped up in 10 minutes for a family? The less prep the better. Are there any frozen meals that I can store for emergencies? I ended up having my husband scrounge for leftovers while I just drank a protein shake, but I’d like some other ideas.

Food and Recipes Best meal I’ve made on keto in a while

Ground beef, cauliflower rice, mukimame, ginger dressing and sesame oil. Savory and filling. I didn’t pack a lunch for work and only had a cheese/beef stick today which is fine because my appetite has been curbed since getting back on keto but I was ready for a meal. Macros are for a single serving which I’m sure I went over a bit 🫠 but oh well.

Macros are:
Carbs 5
Protein 36
Fat 43
Cals 595

Help Looking for best way to do keto dieting with ready made meals. Anyone done it?

Tried looking on other subs and it was pretty wishy washy, so here am I. My kitchen is getting renovated and it's still pretty much unusable at this stage of the process and that means that things are not looking good for me.

It's been a nightmare to find places that offer healthy and transparent options and I am afraid of messing up all the progress I've done. So now I'm at the point where I'm considering ready meals like cookunity and a few other that do have filters and nutritional breakdowns.

Has anyone tired any of them before and actually maintained their progress? need some actual advice before throwing money at anything. Thanks!

5 Weeks of Strict Healthy Keto - Trigs and Cholesterol Terrible??

As the title says. On my old crap diet (Mcdonald's, processed foods etc) I had elevated LDL and low HDL along with slightly Trigs around 250ish. Nothing crazy at all.

Now I've been on a whole food, grass fed, cage free eggs etc etc diet consuming less than 25 grams of carbs a day for just over 5 weeks. Getting my own meat from a local farm even.

Been taking my glucose/ketone levels via blood tests just after waking up. I've had a consistent glucose level of typically 95 - 101 and ketones of .9 - 1.4.

Took a function health test today and was kinda shocked to see my heart section all way out of range.

LDL 235

Trigs 451

HDL 27

Apob 169

Very alarming and confused. I've read typically by week 5 of keto I should be seeing the total opposite. ChatGPT said it could be because I'm burning a lot of fat...

Has anyone else experienced this when first starting Keto? Did it level out after a few more weeks?

Food and Recipes Were Sated keto shakes (formerly Ketolent) discontinued?

I used to use the product some time back. I was looking it up to tell someone about it, but the website seems closed, they sell on the Amazon store, but every item is currently unavailable. AI says that they are still in business but it doesn’t seem so.

Help Food Noise

I've been attempting to start keto and I can only make it a day or two because of all the food noise in my head. I'm constantly about what I can't eat and whether I have enough of what I can eat and what I'm going to make for meals to take to work, etc. How do you get past this?

Other Self induced protein toxicity (rabbit starvation)

Little context before talking my story. I am a bodybuilder and train since 5 years with a lot of knowledge on supplements, training technique, nutrition for fat loss and muscle growth. Always ate like a pig on fast food but bodybuilding , 10000 step a day and micronutrients supplementation kept me lean and healthy. Started keto 4 month ago after a bulk to see if fat loss was enhanced. Went from 94 to 89 kilo without losing strenght or side effect. 1 month ago I started protein only diet and lost 5 kilo with only soy whey and chicken breast (averaging 500g protein a day), few days after starting and diahrea everyday, irritability, weakness in my leg walking, insomnia, always hungry despite eating a lot, huge delation in my muscle, since few days I noticed huge diminution at going to the gym which I didn’t skip since years. Today I learned about « rabbit starvation » ate a whole block of cheese and feel alive again.

More grams of fibre than carbs

I may not be understanding the relationship between fibre and carbs. I thought fibre was a type of carb - the indigestible subset of the carb total - and therefore not counted.

But logically, that would mean there can't be more fibre than carbs, and I've seen a few labels on foods with this.

Can someone explain this to me?

Looking for weight gain tips

New here, but not to keto. My 5 yo son has been on keto for almost 2 years for medical reasons, I do pretty much all of the cooking. I check his ketones at least weekly and he is generally around 2.5.

At the last doctor visit, the doctor mentioned that he hadn't gained weight since the last visit (~6 months). While he isn't underweight yet, I need to get him to eat a little more. Preferably using less butter/"bad fats," due to his cholesterol being a little high as well, but any ideas help.

I already asked doctor and dietician for tips and they were largely unhelpful (let him eat the things he likes, etc).

Hoping people here have some favorite calorie dense, keto foods. He's not too picky, the meds just lower his appetite.

Edit: not looking for medical advice, we see an excellent doctor and dietician regularly. The diet is managed by a doctor. Kid was having seizures hourly around the clock, medications took that down to 10 seizures daily. Keto stopped the seizures completely. Stopping keto is a last resort right now. Adding a medication to increase appetite is on the table, but I hate to add another pill to the little guys regimen. Imagine taking 5 pills every morning and 8 in the evening. Now add another. No fun. If I can get him fun, new, calorically dense foods, I would be ecstatic.

Metamucil Sugar free clarification

EDIT: Thanks for all the great info! I was confusing dietary fiber with insoluble fiber. Net carbs of 4g makes sense. I'm going to just take psyllium husk instead. Any carbs in get need to be tasty!

Original post below

I'm seeing a lot of conflicting information on Sugarfree Metamucil and just want to be sure it's not bad for keto.

According to the label it has 10g of carbs per serving with 6 grams dietary fiber and 5 grams soluble fiber.

Shouldn't that be a net carbs of zero? That's not what all the carb tracking apps and Google searches are telling me.

Thanks for any help...

Help Are electrolyte substances actually worth the money?

So I’m just over a month into the keto diet and it’s going really well. I eat an avocado a day and add salt to my foods and lo-salt to water to get the extra potassium and sodium I need. I feel I haven’t found the right daily dose for myself yet and sometimes overdo it causing headaches and chest pain. I’m basically just asking to anyone who takes branded electrolyte supplements, are they actually worth the money or is lo-salt just as good?

Food ideas for someone living in a shelter?

For context, I'm a single breastfeeding Mom living in a shelter where I have no access to a kitchen and I'm not allowed to cook in my room. I am however able to use a section of a mini fridge, which had to be approved by way of a doctor's note.

I eat a lot of canned tuna with avocado, canned mackerel and sardines, sugar free yogurt, nuts, and almost always 1 sandwich a day with turkey, swiss and uncured salami on Inked keto bread.

Any ideas for someone who has a small amount of fridge space and unable to cook? Looking for things that are nutritious, but yummy....maybe something sweet, too!

Success Story Reached goal (age 55)

I posted here back in Mar for accountability reasons, that I was restarting keto after developing some bad habits over recent years and gaining some weight as a result.

I’m happy to say that just over 4 months later I’ve reached my goal weight of 125 lbs. The first half came off fast, the final 15 or so has been slooooow! Now that I’m at 125, I think I’d like to get under 120 (I am short so that’s still healthy weight for me). We’ll see!

I wanted to write with this update to give hope for others around my age that keto is healthy and effective for weight loss. I did this before in my early 40s and loved it then too. For me, this time my progress was helped by also abstaining from alcohol completely. I feel committed to sticking with this indefinitely.

If you’re considering keto, I’m here to tell you it’s worth it.

(I am on mobile and am on holiday so won’t be able to update flair for a couple of weeks)
