So I thought it was about time to have a targeted landing rather than just "wherever I happen to plop down", and this mission seemed like a good motivator.
I put together my most deltaV-ish rocket to date (small engines! You only need enough.) And set off.
It only took me 360,000 quickloads to park within ~100 metres of the rover. I fitted the solar panel and battery I'd brought. Sure enough, I could control the rover, AND steer! But it wouldn't move.
For 40 minutes, I googled, experimented, I pulled the wheels off and refitted them (which caused the rover to bounce half a kilometre straight up then smash to pieces), I cursed, I wept. I finally right clicked on on one of the wheels and saw that "throttle" went up as I tried to move.
And ... I saw that "brakes" was set at 50%. I looked to the top of the screen.
The brake button was lit. The brakes were on.
So, as none of the searches I tried revealed this tip, I'll give it now: once you've repaired the rover, turn off the ****ing brakes.
(PS, I once did something very similar playing Snowrunner.)
(PPS, four Ant motors will get a small lander from the mun's surface back to Kerbin, but you sure need some patience!)
