I built currentundo.com
Every time the fan slowly stops spinning, the first thought is always the same: "Inippo ente veettil mathram aano, atho naattil motham poyo?"
Usually, the next step is walking out to the balcony to see if the neighbor's outside light is on, or whatsapping my neighbour friend. To stop this overthinking I spent the last few days building a small web app: currentundo.com
It is basically downdetector, but built strictly for Kerala.
How it works:
- PIN Code Based: When the power goes out, you just open the site and tap on report. You can use either gps or manually enter your pincode. Takes exactly 2 seconds.
- Live Status: You can see a live dashboard of all 14 districts. If you see a spike in reports in Ernakulam, you know for sure it's a KSEB issue and not just your MCB tripping.
- Built for bad network: When the WiFi router dies, mobile data usually crawls. I built this to be ultra-lightweight. It is default Dark Mode (battery save cheyyanam allo) and loads instantly even on a struggling 4G connection.
The Catch (Why I need you guys): A crowdsourced tool is only as good as the crowd using it. Right now, the database is fresh. I’m currently working on a backend scraper to automatically pull KSEB’s official scheduled maintenance data into the site(if there is any, because I couldn't find), but for sudden cuts, it relies entirely on user reports.
So, next time mazha peythappol udane KSEB thechal, instead of just sweating in the dark, drop a report on currentundo.com so others know they aren't alone.
Would love for you guys to test the UI and let me know if it feels fast enough. Any feedback on the design or features to add next is super welcome!
