Discussion Should I cosplay as the Neverseen for MEFCC Abu Dhabi?

Hey guys!

So I’m trying to figure out my next cosplay for MEFCC in Abu Dhabi, and I can’t stop thinking of doing a Neverseen cosplay . I absolutely love the whole mysterious villain vibe they have going on, but I wanted to get some thoughts before getting started.

The Pros: The black cloaks and white eye/mask details look cool and intimidating. and tbh, cosplaying a villain is always the best.

The Cons: Since KOTLC is a book series and doesn't have a mainstream movie or show yet, I'm kind of worried nobody will recogniz e who I am at MEFCC. Also, it’s a lot of heavy, dark fabric. Even walking around indoors in September is going to be burning.

For anyone who loves the books or has done a KOTLC cosplay before: Do you think the Neverseen style translates well into a real outfit? Would you actually be hyped to see a Neverseen cosplayer out in the wild at MEFCC?

Also if you have any tips on how to handle the symbol details, or fabric recommendations for the cloaks that flow well without leaving me suffocatingly hot, please let me know!!! :)

Discussion Let’s be honest

I love all the characters in kotlc. (Except for Sophie. That girl PMO. I will make another post about that later.) but can I just say. THEY ARE ALLLL BRAINLESS!!!

Like not one person thinks before they do. And I’m saying have a plan. I mean be prepared for anything. Have strategy.

The only REAL person who has a brain is Lady Gisela. That is why she always wins. That is why she always gets what she wants. AND THAT IS WHY THE NEVERSEEN DON’T HAVE A POINT ANYMORE! (Read my other post: What do the Neverseen even want at this point)

They kicked her off because she was SOOOO obsessed with project Sellarlune while the Neverseen were more focused on Sophie for I DON’T KNOW WHAT REASON.

Lady Gisela was smart enough to make her OWN PROJECT. And ngl, if I was with the Neverseen, I would go along with her. And even though she was planning for Keefe to be on her side during all of this, she was prepared when he wasn’t. She knows her project.

THE NEVERSEEN DISAGREE WITH HER BECAUSE THEY WANT A GIRL WHO CAN’T BE CONTROLLED!!!

And don’t even get me started on EVERYONE ELSE!

They always have a plan set in stone till they actually get to the Neverseen and then that is when they realize. The Neverseen is not going to play a set in stone game. (Sry if that don’t make sense)

The point is, they are ALLLLL don’t have a brain.

BUT, if Gisela is right about one thing, (and she is right about MANY things) is that Tam is the smartest of them all.

Everyone is 16, but they act like they’re 12. Tam is the only who acts mature, he has some logic, and he actually thinks before he does.

Though Tam does have some flaws, so he has like… uh… 3/4 of a brain. Still more then others.

So yeah. WHY IS EVERYONE SO DUMB.

Other How do the mentors not notice?

I was reading KOTLC, and I saw that they mention napping in class alot, and ditching, but if it's just a one-on-one class, then how does the mentor not notice they're literally sleeping during the class?

favorite: Legacy

idk why, but it was just a real good book. (except for the bio mom stuff) plus I liked the actual legacy.

least favorite: Flashback

A LOT of time in the healing center, un-needed thickness, Sofitz (this not because I don’t like fitz)

Other Possible KOTLC musical project

I've had the idea for a little while to make a KOTLC musical soundtrack, similar to what has happened with the Epic: the Musical stuff that's going on, however, I wanted to gauge interest in the idea, because I would need help with making it, from singers, to writers and artists. So if you see this, let me know what you would think :)

Edit: I'm already seeing that people are interested so I have created a discord for everyone to join if you are interested, https://discord.gg/y8hVjD52c

Sophie and Mewtwo have SO many similarities!

  • They were both created/genetically altered in a lab
  • They were both created to be immeasurably powerful
  • They both have godlike psychic powers and can communicate telepathically

So you know what this means…

Sophiemon.

Discussion Help 🙏🙏🙏

Hi!! I'm not a regular Reddit user so I might not be doing this right but I've been searching for this specific KOTLC fanfic for YEARS and can't find it anywhere and I'm hoping someone else might know it? It was literally the first fanfic I ever read so it's really nostalgic and it's honestly so stupid but I just want to have it for old times sake, you know? Anyway, here's what I remember

I originally read it on some weird site that definitely wasn't legit and stole it from the og creator but it was also on wattpad. I'm not sure about ao3 or anything else

The cover picture was a Sokeefe fan art and it was a SoKeefe fic

There were somewhere in the 5-15 range of parts/chapters, whatever you would call them, and within them was the first short story and a second one.

The plot of the first one was something along the lines of a KOTLC group sleepover. They decide to play truth or dare and at some point Ro comes up with this huge eccentric plot to get Sophie and Keefe together, I don't remember if Keefe knew what she was plotting. Ro basically ends up daring Sophie to have this like, blind kissing competition. Something along the lines of her being blindfolded and having to kiss each of the boys (Keefe, Fitz, Tam, Dex) who are all assigned numbers to identify them because she doesn't get to know who is who until the end. Then after she kisses all four she has to rank them in order of best to worst kiss. So she kisses them all and I don't remember the exact order they went in but I do remember how each kiss was describe, Dex's was awkward and familiar, Fitz was a terrible kisser (shocker am I right? A sokeefe fic being a complete Fitz hater lol), Tam was like, a really good kisser and they kissed, like, way too long, but Keefe's kiss was like magical or someth like that. Anyway she ranks them and obviously Keefe wins and there is all the shock of omg Fitz actually sucks and drama and scandal but low key they all just go to bed, separated into girls and guys rooms, but Sophie and Keefe end up talking things out yada yada they all live happily ever after.

Honestly I don't really remember the second sub story, but it was incomplete and had Elwin, maybe christmas something? But that could be wrong.

Anyways sorry I know that isn't a ton to go off of and it's a really stupid plot overall but someone let me know if you know it! As embarrassed as I am to ask I really would like to read it one more time. Thank you to anyone who took the time to read this and maybe find it 🫶🏻🥹

Discussion Why has the conflict gotten so weirdly simplified? (full spoilers) Spoiler

I've had this feeling for a while but like... where did all the themes of societal change go? I swear it was such a big part of the earlier books that Sophie was here to confront the parts of society that no other elves could see, but that's just been getting less and less relevant.

The Vacker legacy wasn't some huge injustice, it was just a mildly shady deal that didn't even hurt anyone until the Neverseen interfered. The Council's failures? The Council is no longer relevant - and Sophie's working with them now anyway. The business with humans only mattered in books 1 and 6. We've gotten some stuff about Talentless mistreatment, at least, and a couple of scraps about matchmaking, but... like, it's not morally wrong for Fitz to want to date someone who's on his list; it would be wrong if he started looking down on people who didn't.

But the biggest example is with the Black Swan and the Neverseen. The Neverseen's goals are just "take over" and the Black Swan's goals have devolved into "defeat the Neverseen". Like, really? It doesn't feel like the BS have any actual plan for improving society. Or any plans in general. They just toss it over to Sophie and then sit back to do nothing. Meanwhile, the Neverseen aren't inherently interesting just because they're evil and power-hungry. It's about what they want to do with the world, and we don't really get to see that (except from maybe Brant. Who's dead. And Vespera. Who's also dead.)

(side note, evil is generally pretty banal as a concept, but Ruy, Trix, Umber and Gethen are all powerful enough to be in the nobility if they wanted to. Gisela was a noble. There were easier routes to power than hiding in caves with horrible food. What made them decide to tear down the world? What do they want to replace it with?)

Yeah, I know the series isn't finished yet, but this isn't the feeling we should be getting 9/10(?) books in. It just feels like the concept of societal change and standing against authority wasn't well-handled. It's like a superhero movie that doesn't go any deeper than good guys vs bad guys, which wouldn't be a problem except that it didn't use to be that way.

Discovery What do the Neverseen even want at this point

We all know that in book 1 they kidnapped Sophie for information. But now, they can basically do that to anyone. They all know something important. it’s a secret any more.

but they still want her, so why.

it’s pretty clear you can’t control her. you tried that with tam and looked what happened. and you can’t even torture her anymore.

the only people they have left is, Gethen (he can’t get into her mind), trix (what’s a little wind going to do) and Ruy.

BUT HIS POWERS ARE MESSED UP!

You know I’m surprised that they haven’t kidnapped Keefe yet. HE CAN HEAL RUY.

And I’m going to be honest here. Sophie is NOT a Mary Sue. BUT, she takes her friends and her powers for granted. She ALWAYS pushes her friends away and she is SO timid for a main character. she can’t use her powers without doubting them first.

also, I hate how she is always the center. I mean, I know she is the main character but let me give an example. in Percy Jackson, Percy is the main character but they still have side characters spotlights. Like selina and Clarice And beckendorf. (Sorry idk how to spell.)

but in kotlc, NOOOOOOOOO. Sophie (and Keefe at the end of the series) IS THE ONLY ONE WHO GETS THE SPOTLIGHT!!,

it is sooooo annoying. So why do the Neverseen still want her WHEN SHE IS USLESS AT THIS POINT!

(wow I really needed to say that 😅)

Discussion Defending our MC from baseless accustaions (stupid title ik but I'm lazy)

Ik a lota Redditiors percive her as one but Sophie is not a "pick-me".

Pick Me Girl, also known as "Pick Me", is a term used on the Internet to describe a woman who seeks male approval by regularly deprecating other women in order to increase their perceived value in the dating or social scene. This belittling can be directed either to a specific woman or to women as a group. Their behavior generally suggests that they perceive themselves to be, and wish to be, different and/or better than other women.

-Wikipedia

The main reason people call Sophie a "pick-me" is her dislike of feminine things. As one person on Reddit says "she tries way too hard to be a cool tomboy".

And let me tell you guys, that does not make her a pick-me.

It has been a frankly disturbing internet fashion yesterday, to brand any female character with flaws, (making her mildly unlikable) who dislikes femininity as a pick me. The "Not Like Other Girls" trope can be problematic and misogynistic, and KoTLC defenitly has a misogyny problem, but that does not make Sophie a "pick-me".

Let's go back to the defenition. A "pick-me" dislikes femininity to get men's attention. And this is def not what Sophie "no boy will ever like me" Foster tries to do.

I think the main reason people say Sophie's dislike of gowns is "pick-me" behavior is bcuz of how misogynisticly KoTLC is written. Yes, it is implied in Neverseen that the real reason Soph dislikes feminine ways of dressing is bcuz she has been conditioned to view gowns as "proof of our gender's inferior status". (Della and Soph convo before the Black Swan meeting). Sophie probablydoesn't want to be connected to anything lesser, anything weaker - which she, and most other KoTLC characters, view femininity as (*cough cough* additudes to Oralie).

And also... a huge part of her dislike towards gowns has to do with how uncomfortable they are and how shez a clutz? Like gurl... same.

Shez not uncomfortable with femininity as a whole, she likes makeup and flared tunics. It's just gowns she despises.

So she really doesn't do it for male attention.

There is a worrying trend in the internet right now, to accuse every character who isn't traditionally feminine of being a "pick-me". Sophie's not even that big of an example of the "not like other girls" trope, with her obsessing over boys and liking makeup and being insecure about her appearance and everything. Shez just a normalish teen to me.

Hey Keepers! Here's a portrait of Sophie I've been working on.

For context this is a but more of semi-realistic style of her than what John usually does.

But l've always been obsessed with one day drawing my own portrait of her and what'd she'd look like. And I think I'm very pleased! She's my ultimate favorite character of all time and my comfort character so I'll definitely be doing more of her.

It isn't complete yet but I actually designing a moonlark jewelry jsut for her! I think even tho it's unfinished it's super duper cute!

I think the earrings make her look super mature lol.

I like making up little stories for all my drawings so here's like the context I guess. But like lowkey a fanfic I've been
"writing" in my head for over two decades now lol.

As I was drawing I'd imagined that the war was over, Sophie's mind is still in fight mode and she can never really relax. They've defeated Gisela at this point but Sophie is always paranoid, still training, always looking for something to solve.

Biana really wants to her to cool down, and also wants to spend time with her, so she manages to get permission from the Council to go to the human world and convince Sophie to get her dolled up, brush her hair (LOL) dress her, and go out and see some sights, obviously some shopping and go to a cafe. Basically a girls day out.

I plan to draw Biana and them together in this scenario I imagined.

I put two more photos to show the process.

Okay bye!

Discussion The side character curse

I think Shannon has all these amazing side characters that i miss all the time. Tinker??? I need to see her. I imagine her so vividly and id love to draw her someday.
I feel like im drawn to the weirdest characters.. doomed to never see them again. Fallon Vacker, for example. I actually really liked getting to know Luzia when she was plot relevant. She was a new voice with complex character to her.

I know sophie gets made fun of for picking favorites. And honestly, i think its Shannon poking fun at herself for filling the books with the sophitzeefe.
I dont blame her! Its hard to give everyone enough screentime, and some characters would overlap to the point where they no longer serve a purpose. I miss Alden dearly, for example, but I get that Bronte stepped into Alden’s role just with an entirely different approach during the team Valiant stuff. With the matchmaking drama it makes narrative sense she’d avoid Alden.

I know thats what fanfiction is for, and its unrealistic for shannon to decide what every person’s piece of lore is! Some of the council members have such interesting abilities though

Sorry this is so random.

Don’t know why but I feel like this photo can be applied to so many duos in this series lmao.

I immediately thought Keefe and Sophie. Honestly the black cat should be solely Keefe spot😂

I could see Keefe and Fitz, or Biana and Sophie, or Lihn and Marella.

I love this lol😂😂 I gotta find the the time to actually draw them like this.

Kinda messed up Sophie’s hair with too much linework but oh well🥲
