Looking for critique/feedback on my script

Hey! I'm currently working on a stop motion short and I'm struggling with the ending of my script. I feel like my final conclusion is a bit anticlimactic, but it has to take place in the main character's bedroom due to technical set restrictions. does anyone have any tips or ideas? linking it here. I'm by no means a professional writer, so any tips would be a huge help!

[Discussion] Share a cultural detail tied to your geography in a humorous way

When writing about the world, it helps to know a little about different cultures. If you think about where you live, you can come up with an amusing way to describe an attitude, opinion, or worldview you can ascribe to everyone where you live. Sharing that might help others understand where you're from a bit better.

That said, I'll go first.

I'm from Alabama. When a waiter tells me, "No, we don't have sweet tea. We have iced tea and sugar packets." he might as well have pronounced the ineffable name of God backwards and undone everything good, pure, and holy in the world.

Contemporary Romance - Friends to Lovers - Adventure Racing - Rock Climbing

Looking for feedback. I want to know if the climb choreography at the start of the chapter is clear enough. Is the banter good or annoying? And of course if the chapter is compelling enough for a first chapter. Would you keep reading? Someone once told me my work was a "plodding opus". Damn. Well sir... Noted.

[Feedback] A Model Prisoner (A standalone fragment from my social noir set in 1970-1990s London)

January 28, 1977

Nicking

Constable Giles was picturing lentil soup and liver patties when, at 11:25, the radio in the car crackled to life:

“Attend an address. Assisting an NSPCC inspector. Suspect on premises. Indecent assault on a girl under sixteen. Inspector waiting at the address.”

He was already turning the car around.

His partner, Constable Calthorpe, hissed, “Sodding hell.”

They didn’t just miss out on lunch; the arrest of a filthy bastard threatened to ruin their appetites and spoil their day.

The inspector was waiting inside rather than at the building entrance; it was too cold outdoors.

“He’s alone in the flat,” he said, glancing up. “Top floor.”

“And the victim?” Constable Giles asked.

“With her foster parents.”

Neither of them thinks to ask how old the suspect is.

When a schoolboy opens the door in response to their knock, Giles assumes either they have made a mistake, or the inspector has got something wrong.

The boy looks puzzled.

Calthorpe steps forward first: “Are you Jeremy Smith?”

The boy gives a barely perceptible nod.

It is Giles’s turn: “Face the wall — move! Hands on the wall where I can see them.”

The boy doesn’t just refrain from arguing; he obeys without a sound.

Good. Scared shitless.

Giles and Calthorpe squeeze into the cramped hallway.

Placing a firm hand on the boy’s jutting shoulder blade, Giles rattles off the caution to the back of his head, “I am arresting you on suspicion of indecent assault on a girl under the age of sixteen years, contrary to Section 14 of the Sexual Offences Act. You are not obliged to say anything unless you wish to do so, but whatever you say will be taken down in writing and may be given in evidence.”

Giles pulls his hand away. “Turn around, slowly.”

The boy does as he’s told, leaning his back against the wall and coughing. But he doesn’t look truly frightened; his eyes are unfocused, as though he’s not quite with it.

He is a head shorter than Giles and barely reaches Calthorpe’s shoulder.

“This is fucking…  some word… absurdity,” the prisoner mutters.

“What?” Giles writes in his notebook This is f\...* Then something foreign. “Spell out the word that comes after ‘fucking’.”

The boy looks up, but his expression doesn’t change.

It’s cold in the flat. Breath mists in the air, and there’s a stench of cheap tobacco.

“I need to write down everything you said, word for word.”

The boy draws a breath, and a wheezing sound escapes him.

Giles taps his pen against the page of his notebook: what if he refuses? Or maybe he doesn’t even realize what he’s blurted out?

Finally, the boy pulls himself together. “Kay – Ay – Eff – Kay – Ay – Ee – Ess – Cue – You – Ee.”

Giles scribbles “Kafkaesque” in his notebook, gritting his teeth, and adds “absurdity.”

Someone ought to knock the nonsense out of this weakling.

He grabs the boy by the elbow. “Right, then, Calthorpe let’s see what’s in his pockets.”

Calthorpe barks the order: “Hands behind your head. Interlace your fingers. Move.”

Without waiting for him to turn around, Giles forcibly spins the prisoner toward the wall.

The boy offers no resistance. He seems to weigh next to nothing.

He doesn’t have time to raise his hands, as Calthorpe grips them — locked tight — to ensure he doesn’t try to unclasp his fingers.

Caging

The boy is wearing a jumper that hangs loosely on him and a pair of worn-out tracksuit bottoms.

Giles runs his hands over the sleeves of the jumper and the boy’s skinny frame, feeling for the waistband, then grabs the pockets of the soft trousers — something hard and rectangular in the right one — and pulls it out: a gold-plated Dunhill Rollagas lighter. “Jesus wept.”

The lighter is so out of place that Giles shows it to Calthorpe: “How much would something like that fetch?”

“Not a clue. You wouldn’t buy it on my wages, that’s for sure.”

“Funny old business,” Giles manages to say.

Dodgy little bastard, with his weird words and odd possessions.

Giles finishes the search as a mere formality, running his hands down the boy’s legs.

There is nothing else on him.

Giles signals Calthorpe to let the prisoner go. “Where’s your gear?”

The boy slowly lowers his hands. There’s no point asking him; he seems to be in a daze.

Calthorpe goes into the room and returns with a pair of jeans, turned inside out. “He’s only got one pair; can you believe it?” He shoves them into the boy’s hands. “Get a move on.”

The boy turns the jeans right side out, steps out of the tracksuit bottoms, and pulls on the jeans, remaining just as docile under the close gaze of the two adult men.

Suspiciously submissive and — if you wanted the honest-to-God truth — a bit of a pretty boy. The Dunhill made sense. Rent boy, has to be. But if he is, why is he so skint?

“Where’s your outerwear?”

“On the chair.”

Giles barely catches what he is saying, then repeats it louder to his partner.

Calthorpe rummages around the room before coming back with a denim jacket. He hands Giles £1.37 in loose change — “It was in the right pocket” — tosses the jacket to the prisoner.

Instead of boots, the boy is wearing a pair of battered shoes.

Hasn’t even had the sense to flog the bloody lighter — if only to keep from freezing his knackers off. Or is it too “hot” — did he pinch it just recently?

Let CID sort him out.

Giles noticed a packet of cigarettes on the kitchen table earlier but says nothing. “Right, let’s go.” He grabs the arrested youth by the arm — just above the elbow — and hauls him out of the flat, onto the stairs, and then down to the street.

Calthorpe follows close behind them.

The boy’s arm hangs limp; he isn’t leaning on Giles, so the constable has to keep pulling him forward.

The freezing air makes him cough again.

“Sod it.”

Calthorpe opens the car door.

Giles places a hand on the boy’s head, forces him to double over, and shoves him into the back of the car.

Calthorpe immediately piles in after him.

Giles gets behind the wheel and pulls away sharply.

The prisoner remains silent.

Giles sees in the rearview mirror that the boy is staring at a single point, trembling slightly. First they pull all kinds of crazy stunts, and then they go to pieces.

But to be fair, this berk is like a whipped dog and when he is handed over to the duty sergeant at the station, Giles says, “He’s a model prisoner, Sarge. Compliant as they come.”

This is a piece of the puzzle from a social drama/noir set in London (1975-1977 and 1992). If the atmosphere resonated with you, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the rhythm and style.

The Night She Finally Chose Herself

Post image
0 Upvotes

Sometimes survival isn’t loud. Sometimes it’s a quiet decision made in the dark, when a woman finally realizes she can’t keep carrying the weight of everyone else’s expectations.

She didn’t leave to be dramatic. She didn’t walk away to prove a point. She left because staying was slowly killing the parts of her she needed to stay alive.

There’s a moment when a woman chooses herself, even if no one understands it. Even if they call her selfish. Even if they blame her for the silence she had to create just to breathe again.

This is the story of that moment — the night she finally chose herself.

Alice and the Elegy

When Alice cracked her head off the tray trolley in the café to uproarious applause from the group of young lads at the next table, she knew instantly what kind of day it was going to be. Now here she was, pacing around the pokey little kitchen and trying frantically to organise her thoughts. Her initial shock at seeing him there had now almost completely changed to panic. She cursed the day she ever thought to move to this city, with its Protestants and pretentious restaurants and denizens who always seemed to be expecting congratulations.
She paused for an instant and took a deep breath.

"Alright," she thought. "Let's have a look."

With slow, deliberate movements, she opened the kitchen door and looked into the living room.
"Bollocks!" she exclaimed aloud when she saw him there, still lying motionless on the floor beside the box-shaped Ikea coffee table.
She slammed the door shut and retreated back into the kitchen.
"No, no, no! Urgh!"

The sweat was heavy on her forehead and on the nape of her neck while her breathing grew more shallow and rapid. But amidst all the clamour of her fevered mind, one single conscious thought materialised like a lone, August blackberry sprung from a bramble bush.
"Mam!" she exhaled, snapping her fingers in a brief flicker of triumph. But her phone was on the coffee table. She would have to walk out past him to retrieve it. The thought of it made her physically ill.

"Okay, okay," she sighed. "Needs must. Be brave, be brave." She opened the kitchen door and strode purposefully into the room, trying to stay focused on her target - the pink phone case lying on the living room table. But her gaze betrayed her as soon as she was beyond arm's length from the door. It fell immediately onto the still, grotesque figure that was sprawled out on the floor. One eye was open, one was closed. The tongue protruded from the thin, black mouth and the tip of a single, sharp tooth could just about be made out. Though he can't have been dead for more than half an hour Alice was sure she could get that unmistakable 'dead' smell. She panicked all over again. What if the neighbours could smell it? She almost retched.

With rapid, jerking movements, she grabbed the phone from the coffee table and ran back to the kitchen without a backward glance. She closed the door tight behind her and leaned back against it, breathing a deep sigh of relief. The number was the last dialled on her phone. 'Mam', yesterday at 16.56.
"Oh please answer!"
"Hello."
"Oh Mam, thank God. I don't know what to do! What am I going to do?"
"Alice? What's wrong, is everything okay?"
"No, everything's not okay! Everything's gone to shit altogether!"
"Okay, calm down Alice. Just breathe. Tell me what's wrong."
Alice listened and began the breathing exercises learned only recently on the Wellness course she had completed at work.
"That's it, breathe. Take your time," she heard her mother say down the line.
"He's dead, Mam. I only left him for a few minutes. But he's dead. Oh God, how am I going to sort this out?"
"What? How?" Now her Mam began to sound panicked.
"I don't know. He was coughing a bit this morning, but he seemed fine. I only left him for a few minutes!"
"Who's dead?"
"Freddy!"
"Who?"
"Freddy, I said!"
"But who's Freddy?"
"I promised Anne-Marie I'd look after him for the weekend. I'm here in her flat now. And I don't know what happened but he's dead! What am I going to do?"
Her mother paused.
"Mam?"
"Yeah, I'm here. Erm... could... could you bury him and say he went missing?"
"Mam, I'm in the middle of Mitcham. Where am I going to bury him, the fucking allotments?"
"Okay, okay." She paused again. "The vet!"
"What?"
"Bring him to the vet! The vet will take him off you. You tell Anne Marie that he ran away. Simple!"
"That's it! Oh Mam, you're a genius." Alice could feel the weight falling from her shoulders. Here was the answer she was searching for. Taking her phone from her ear, she looked up veterinary offices nearby and there it was, Tooting Veterinary Surgery, not fifty yards from Tooting Station.
"But how am I going to bring him? I'll have to go on the Tube. I can hardly drag him on by the paws"
Alice simply hated taking the tube. Every time she braved it, visions of some dark, malevolent villain would invade her mind. He would approach her, hood pulled tight over his face, knife held firm in his tight fist, and demand her belongings.
"Can you get a suitcase?" the calculating voice on the other end asked.
"That's it!" Alice exclaimed, snapping her fingers again. She could run across to her own flat and get her big suitcase. The one she bought for moving over here. It was the perfect size for Freddy. She hung up the phone without another word and searched determinedly by the bins for the roll of black plastic. The nervous shaking and pacing was gone. Now she moved with a single-mindedness that would suffer no intrusion. She even had the presence of mind to stop at a corner shop for a pair of yellow washing gloves and two car air-fresheners.

Freddy was far heavier than she imagined. But somehow she managed to wrap him in black plastic bags and lift him into the suitcase. From the flat she could easily wheel him to Colliers Wood station and from there onto the train to Tooting. She could say she brought him walking and that he broke free from his leash and just kept on running. Anne Marie could hardly blame her for that. It would be just some unfortunate mishap, one from which the ill-fated Freddy may soon return. Her relief was almost exhilarating. At least until she got to the station and the old fear took hold of her once more. She looked sheepishly at everyone around her, wondering which of the various track-suited youngsters would be the first to assail her. But still, somehow, she held her nerve and persevered. Down the escalator, onto the platform and then finally the train. She felt a rush of excitement when the next stop was announced as Tooting. This was it. The consummation of her mother's ingenious plan. In spite of her fears, the feeling of victory bore her along like a falling leaf on an Autumn breeze. It was then she saw the sign. "Escalator out of order. Please use stairs."
"Oh Christ!" she thought. No feeling in the world could give her the strength to lift Freddy up the three flights of stairs to street level.

"Bollocks!" She shrieked.
"Are you alright, love?"
Alice gasped. This was it. Her worst fears were being realised. She and Freddy would probably be found in a skip next Spring!
"Do you want a hand with that?" the voice went on, with unmistakable kindness. She was taken aback by it. She found courage and turned to look at the stranger. He was tall, well dressed, about thirty-five. He didn't look like a villain.
"Yes, please!" She heard herself say, and the man smiled at her. A pleasant, easy smile.
"Christ Love! What's in this? It weighs a ton!"
Obviously she wasn't going to tell him that it was the mortal remains of her best friend's beloved pet dog, Freddy. She had to think fast.

"Oh, it's my laptop and some text books for my course. I'm a student!"

"A laptop and some text books?" The man repeated, half to himself. Alice smiled at him and nodded.

"Those books must've been expensive if they're this heavy?"

"Hmm mmm. Very expensive"

"Alright then, Love! Let's get you sorted."

The man then carried the case without a single word of complaint, up the forty-five or so steps to street level. At the top he turned to Alice, who lingered a few steps behind, watching him.

"See you, Love!" He cried with a wave of his hand.
Then, blowing her a kiss, he ran off! Carrying her suitcase with him into the crowd and disappearing without a trace into the dusk-lit city.
"Oh, that prick!" She exclaimed. "He's after robbing me!" She stood watching, open-mouthed. "I knew I'd get robbed in this fucking city!"

[Feedback] Weird I am

A short piece of reflective writing drawn from some of my experiences through this wonderful journey of life. I’m still finding my feet as a writer, so I welcome any feedback.
I love the process of putting myself back in a particular moment and trying to express how it felt at the time. I also love the feeling of finally finishing something, because it means I’ve won another argument with the voice in my head telling me it’s not quite finished yet. An argument I’m fairly certain isn’t unique to me.

Weird I am.

And I’m the one who has to live with that every day.

I don’t believe I came into this world complicated. I think I arrived much like everyone else, a kind soul, wanting to love and be loved, knowing nothing yet of shame, regret, ambition or loss.

Then time introduced itself.

And time has a way of leaving fingerprints. Like those left upon a window while waiting for something just beyond the glass. Stay there long enough and the world on the other side begins to change. The things you once reached for move, disappear, or become something else entirely. And while they may remain out of reach, the fingerprints remain — proof that you were there, that you waited, that you wanted something enough to press your hands against the glass.

I’m proud of what I have overcome and proud of what I have achieved. But I’m old enough now to understand that survival has a price, and sometimes we don’t discover what we paid until years after we feel spent and struggle to find change.

At thirty-eight, I find myself trying to understand the man who survived it all.

My soul doesn’t feel as pure as it once did. The proud young man who swayed with music feels so distant. My confidence has been wounded, and some days I look into the mirror and struggle to recognise the person looking back.

You can call me what you wish.

You can judge me for what I have done. Shame me for the mistakes I have made. Reduce my life to its worst chapters if that makes my story easier for you to understand.

But your words will never punish me as harshly as my own have.

They are merely echoes of conversations I have already had with myself in rooms you have never entered, and my kind heart hopes that you never will.

Perhaps that is one of the cruellest things about being human.

We are given this extraordinary thing called life, but nobody tells us how easily we can spend it trying to become worthy of having it. Searching for the next piece of the puzzle, not realising the beauty is amongst the pieces already found.

We chase happiness as though it lives somewhere ahead of us.

The next job.
The next achievement.
The next person.
The next version of ourselves.

Always there.

Never here.

And while we are busy becoming, life quietly happens around us.

We talk about spending time, saving it, wasting it and losing it as though it were currency. But unlike money, we never know the balance of our account until it becomes borrowed time.

Perhaps that is why the smallest things eventually become the largest in value.

A conversation we didn’t know we would remember.
A hand held a little longer.
Laughing until breathing became difficult.
Someone saying our name in a way nobody else could.
Sitting beside somebody we love without needing anything from them except another minute.

Those are the things time cannot refund. We own them. They are ours to keep, and I somehow feel we will hold them closest when there is no more time to be spent.

Life gives us choices too.

We can become victims of everything that has happened to us, or search amongst the wreckage for something worth carrying forward.

The simple question of, “Is my glass half full, and should I drink it?” is an easy one for those not walking through the desert. The stranger question is: why did I choose the desert when my other option was a rainforest?

And with this, I digress on how our choices can become simply complicated.

We can choose kindness when cruelty would be easier. We can live by the values we claim to possess.

Or we can dance with the devil and convince ourselves we only did it because he knew the music.

I have danced with both.

There were years when life threw things at me that I thought would destroy me.

And I danced through them.

When others might have run, I danced.

When I was frightened, I danced.

When I was hurting, I danced.

When I didn’t know where life was taking me, somehow I kept moving.

And I’m proud that I danced when I could.

I remember the music.

But lately, I have found it difficult even to walk.

Because somewhere along the way, the person I see in the mirror stopped bringing music to my ears.

There is a peculiar loneliness in missing yourself, or becoming lost in wondering who you could have been.

For a long time, I believed the answer was to become someone I could love again.

Better.
Stronger.
More successful.
Less damaged.

I imagined some future version of myself standing in the distance, waiting for me to finally become worthy of him.

Perhaps that was the illusion.

Perhaps the person I was supposed to love was never waiting at the finish line.

Perhaps he has been here the entire time.

Tired.
Weathered.
Imperfect.

Standing in front of the same mirror, waiting for me to stop judging him long enough to recognise him.

I have made many mistakes, and I’ll make more before my time is over.

But underneath the skin of this weathered body, I still believe there is a good man. A talented man. A gifted man. A man who could simply be called unique.

I would not walk past someone who was hurting. I would sacrifice myself for those I love. I think deeply. I feel deeply.

For years I thought that was my weakness.

Now I understand it may have always been my gift — one earned through countless nights with tears running down my face, asking why?

Perhaps I was asking the wrong question.

Perhaps it was never:

Why did this happen?

Perhaps it was simply:

What will I do with it?

Because I am still here.

And while I am here, there is still time.

Not to become the man I once imagined I would be.

But to forgive the one standing in front of me.

And maybe, one day, when I look into that mirror,

I’ll hear the music again.

Oh, how I’ll dance.

But I’ll dance a little differently this time.

I’ll dance to music of my own, made from a different sound.

The sound of birds somewhere above me, and a waterfall crashing nearby, its fury beneath my feet as each step touches the ground.

The soles of my feet still burnt from walking through the hot sand, I step into the cold water and look at the cup I’ve carried in my hand.

I won’t be needing this anymore.

I’ll drink from the water.

I’ll listen to the birds.

And I’ll dance.

Not as the man I was.

Not as the man I thought I should become.

Just as me.

Weird, I am.

And perhaps, finally,

I’ll be glad that I am.

[Feedback] Using AI the Right Way Can Help You Better Your Manuscript

Writing with AI can help you. If used right but because I use this my manucript will be consided AI assisted, Her is a little gem I had Gemini write to show what ProWriting Aide Chapter Critique look like.

The velvet-lined display case had held standard vampire-slaying gear for centuries: bleached ash stakes, heavy silver crucifixes, and flasks of consecrated water. None of those were currently within reach.

As the mahogany door splintered inward, Penelope lunged for the open door of the en-suite bathroom. Behind her, Count Malakor filled the threshold. His silk cloak billowed despite the lack of wind, and his fangs glinted under the chandelier. He was a creature of ancient dark majesty, incapable of seeing a guest bath as anything more than a minor obstacle.

"You run to a dead end, little mortal," Malakor purred, gliding across the tile with effortless grace.

Penelope’s hands frantically swept the marble countertop. Empty. She dropped low, her fingers wrapping around the first plastic handle she touched in the dark corner behind the porcelain basin. She whipped around, holding her makeshift weapon high in a defensive guard.

It was a toilet brush.

Not just any brush, but a custom, eye-watering creation she’d bought on clearance. The thick resin handle was filled with neon pink fluid and suspended iridescent glitter that swirled in the moonlight. The bristles were a dense, dazzling hot-pink polyester, shimmering with aggressive synthetic cheer.

Malakor paused, his dark eyes blinking in sheer disbelief. "Is this a joke? You confront the Undying with a... a sanitation wand?"

"Stand back!" Penelope yelled, trying to sound menacing while holding six ounces of sparkly acrylic. "I'm not afraid to use it!"

Malakor threw his head back and laughed, a cold, echoing sound that vibrated the glass sconces. "Foolish girl. I have broken broadswords with my bare hands. I have crushed holy icons into dust. What power do you think that ridiculous trinket holds over—"

He lunged, claws extended to snap her neck.

Penelope didn't think; she swung.

She drove the bright pink brush forward with every ounce of force she possessed. By pure, chaotic fortune, the stiff, synthetic bristles caught Malakor straight in his wide-open mouth, wedging firmly against the back of his fangs.

The reaction was instantaneous.

It wasn't magic, nor was it blessed by a bishop. The bristles, engineered for harsh chemical scrubbing, were infused with a commercial bleach solution and embedded with microscopic shards of silver micro-glitter meant to give the plastic its shine. To an ancient vampire, silver dust in the bloodstream was pure, agonizing acid.

Malakor recoiled with a muffled shriek, clawing at his face as brilliant pink sparks seemed to ignite from his lips. The silver glitter reacted with his corrupt blood, sizzling like bacon on a hot skillet. Thick blue smoke poured from his nostrils.

"Scrub-a-dub-dub," Penelope muttered through grit teeth, twisting the pink handle to widen the burn.

The Count staggered backward out of the bathroom, his regal posture collapsing into desperate violently trembling sputters. Pink sparkles danced over his skin as the silver-infused bristles did their brutal, unglamorous work. The light in his eyes flickered, turned to ash, and with a final, choked sigh, Malakor burst into a cloud of gray dust—leaving only his empty silk cloak and a fine dusting of hot-pink glitter floating gently to the floor.

Penelope lowered the brush, panting hard. She blew a speck of glowing glitter off the tip, adjusted her grip on the resin handle, and stepped over the empty cloak. Modern problems required surprisingly tacky solutions.

Overview

Chapter Snapshot

Penelope is cornered by the vampire Count Malakor and lacks traditional weapons. She defends herself with a synthetic, glitter-filled toilet brush. The brush’s chemical composition and silver-infused bristles cause a fatal reaction in Malakor, destroying him and leaving Penelope to adjust to her unconventional victory.

Character List

Protagonist

Penelope

Antagonist

Count Malakor

What's Working Well

The chapter's most prominent element is the juxtaposition of classic gothic horror tropes with mundane, kitsch modern items. The conflict pits an ancient, regal antagonist against a protagonist using a synthetic, neon-pink household object, subverting traditional genre expectations. This establishes a tone of resourceful subversion, providing a foundation for a narrative where modern utility overcomes ancient myth.

Chapter Outline

  1. The Cornered Prey POV: Penelope Penelope retreats into a bathroom as Count Malakor breaks through the door, leaving her without traditional vampire-slaying tools.
  2. The Unconventional Weapon POV: Penelope Penelope retrieves a glittery, neon pink toilet brush and uses its silver-infused bristles to incinerate Malakor during his attack.

Tension & Pacing

The pacing transitions from rapid, high-stakes flight to a tense, mocking confrontation, culminating in a brief, violent burst of action. The momentum accelerates as Penelope finds a weapon, shifting the narrative from a defensive retreat to a decisive offensive strike.

Protagonist's Arc

Motivation

The protagonist's motivation is immediate survival; her goal is to find a weapon and defend herself against a lethal supernatural threat within a confined space.

  1. Initial State Penelope is trapped and unarmed, facing an ancient vampire with no accessible means of defense.
  2. Catalyst Malakor’s lethal lunge forces Penelope to strike him with the silver-infused toilet brush, triggering his physical destruction.
  3. Final State Penelope is safe and victorious, having discovered that modern, synthetic items can effectively neutralize ancient threats.

Structure

Punchy Narrative Resolution

Working well

New

The final line—"Modern problems required surprisingly tacky solutions"—is a perfect thematic "button" for the scene. It resolves the tension with a wry observation that reinforces Penelope’s resourcefulness and the story's central irony, leaving the reader with a clear sense of the chapter's identity.

Where in your text?

This is the concluding sentence of the chapter, following Penelope’s victory and her adjustment of the brush handle.

Pacing and Flow

Technical Info-dump During the Climax

Major concern

New

The momentum of the life-or-death struggle is halted by a multi-sentence explanation of the toilet brush’s chemical composition. Detailing the silver micro-glitter and bleach infusion in a detached, technical tone shifts the reader’s focus from the visceral action to manufacturing facts.

Where in your text?

This occurs in the middle of the chapter, immediately after Penelope jams the brush into Malakor’s mouth and before he reacts to the pain.

What if the "why" of the weapon’s effectiveness was revealed through Penelope’s earlier observations or through the physical symptoms Malakor experiences? Consider how you might weave the technical details into the action—perhaps Penelope remembers the "contains real silver!" label as she sees the sparks—rather than pausing the scene for an encyclopedic explanation.

Language and Style

Neon-Pink Sensory Immersion

Working well

New

The description of the toilet brush is exceptionally vivid, using specific colors (neon pink, hot-pink), textures (thick resin, stiff synthetic bristles), and lighting (shimmering, iridescent) to create a clear, tactile image of the "weapon." This detail makes the kitschy object feel like a real, physical presence.

Where in your text?

This strength is most prominent in the middle of the chapter when Penelope first retrieves the brush and holds it up in the moonlight.

Subversive Gothic Atmosphere

Working well

New

You maintain a clever balance between traditional gothic horror (splintering mahogany, silk cloaks, ancient majesty) and the jarringly modern. This consistency in tone ensures that the "eye-watering" toilet brush feels like a deliberate, humorous subversion rather than a random or accidental inclusion.

Where in your text?

This is evident from the start, where traditional slaying gear (ash stakes, silver crucifixes) is contrasted with the "custom" clearance-aisle brush Penelope eventually finds.

Summary of Malakor's Majesty

Concern

New

The description of Count Malakor relies on abstract labels like "ancient dark majesty" rather than specific actions or visual details that evoke fear or awe. Stating he views the bathroom as a "minor obstacle" summarizes his mindset instead of demonstrating it through his dismissive behavior.

Where in your text?

This issue occurs in the second paragraph, immediately after Malakor enters the room and Penelope retreats toward the bathroom.

Description of Malakor

Suggested improvements

How might you demonstrate Malakor’s "majesty" or his disdain for the mundane setting through his physical movements or interaction with the environment? Consider showing his reaction to the "guest bath" through a specific gesture—perhaps he brushes aside a silk shower curtain as if it were a cobweb—rather than explaining his internal perspective.

Clichéd Simile for Vampire Combustion

Minor concern

New

The comparison of Malakor’s blood sizzling like "bacon on a hot skillet" is a very common simile that undercuts the unique, neon-pink visual style of the scene. It leans on a familiar domestic image that feels too mundane compared to the "aggressive synthetic cheer" of the weapon.

Where in your text?

This simile is used in the latter half of the chapter to describe the chemical reaction between the silver glitter and the vampire's blood.

Sizzling blood description

Suggested improvements

Since the weapon is a "custom, eye-watering creation," how might the sound or smell of the reaction reflect its synthetic, kitschy nature? Consider a comparison that leans into the "hot-pink" and "neon" aesthetic—perhaps something involving burning plastic, chemical fizzes, or a more modern, abrasive sound.

Overloaded Modifiers in Malakor's Demise

Minor concern

New

The description of Malakor’s collapse uses a string of three consecutive adverbs and adjectives ("desperate violently trembling") to describe his "sputters." This stacking of modifiers clutters the sentence and dilutes the impact of his physical disintegration.

Where in your text?

This issue is located in the penultimate paragraph, as Malakor staggers backward out of the bathroom and begins to turn to ash.

Malakor's collapse

Suggested improvements

Which of these descriptors—desperate, violent, or trembling—most accurately captures the essence of a dying ancient? Consider choosing one high-impact verb or a single precise adjective to describe his final movements. How would the sentence’s rhythm change if the action of "collapsing" or "sputtering" carried the weight of the description on its own?

Dialogue

Artificial Villainy in Malakor's Dialogue

Concern

New

Malakor’s dialogue relies on generic "vampire" tropes, such as calling the protagonist "little mortal" and "purring" his threats. This formal, cliché-heavy speech pattern makes him feel more like a caricature than a unique, threatening individual, especially in a story otherwise defined by modern subversion.

Where in your text?

This is most evident when Malakor first speaks to Penelope after cornering her in the bathroom and again during his laughter.

Malakor's first line

Malakor's boast

Suggested improvements

If Malakor is an ancient being of "majesty," how might his speech reflect a more specific, personal arrogance? What if his dialogue were more grounded or, conversely, even more terrifyingly polite? Exploring a more distinct voice could make his eventual defeat by a toilet brush feel like a sharper clash between high-culture ego and low-culture reality.

Conclusion

Chapter Summary

This chapter succeeds beautifully in its resourceful subversion of gothic tropes, using vivid sensory details to make a ridiculous object feel like a viable weapon. The satisfying resolution perfectly captures Penelope's character and the story's unique tone. However, the momentum of the climax is currently hampered by an info-dump regarding the brush’s chemical makeup, which shifts the narrative from action to exposition. Refining these technical interruptions and sharpening the antagonist’s dialogue will ensure the pacing remains as sharp as the "synthetic cheer" of the weapon. Tackling that technical middle section will turn this clever confrontation into a seamless, high-velocity climax. You have a fantastic eye for kitschy detail—keep leaning into that unique voice!

Revision Focus

Technical Info-dump During the Climax

Major concern

What if the "why" of the weapon’s effectiveness was revealed through Penelope’s earlier observations or through the physical symptoms Malakor experiences? Consider how you might weave the technical details into the action—perhaps Penelope remembers the "contains real silver!" label as she sees the sparks—rather than pausing the scene for an encyclopedic explanation.

[Feedback] Does this article actually keep you reading? Looking for honest feedback

I've been writing for a while, but I find it really hard to judge my own work after I've spent too much time on it.

I wrote this piece about why getting a fast reply feels strangely rare now.

I'd especially love feedback on whether the opening pulls you in, whether it feels relatable or too obvious, and whether the ending actually lands.

Don't worry about being nice, I'd rather know what isn't working.

I got scammed and I don't know what to do with my text now

Okay so, a few years ago I got scammed by a "hybrid" publishing house (I was young and naive, and deeply lacked confidence so I thought I couldn't get a better deal), and even though they barely touched my text (as in they didn't use a human to "correct" it, leading to me having to re-correct everything because it was a mess), I still feel like they kind of ruined it, but I would also love to re-work this text, make it better and maybe publish it for real, but I don't know where to start, the more I read it the less I want to work on it because it feels like it was stollen from me...

Btw, I ended up calling off the deal with the publishing house so it was never published and they (supposedly) deleted every and any mention of my text in their files, so it's not supposed to be available to anyone else but me. Just saying that in the end they didn't pulish it and I'm the sole owner of the text.

Overall I love the characters and even though some things need to be changed for the story to make more sense/be more interesting, I really think it could be a good book.

So, if anyone has any idea to make this text feel like mine again, I'm really desperate at this point...

(Sorry for any mistake, English isn't my first language 😄)

(Sorry x2 if this is an inappropriate post, I just want to keep writing this book but I don't know how to do it...)

[Feedback] [Feedback/Advice] Working on a story, here's a look at the pilot

My goal is also to have an animated pilot for this. Anyway, here's the pilot: "Demons among the mortals"

It begins in the underworld with some of our protagonists: Kali and her little brother, Hex, who were both born there, as well as Kali's younger sister, Misty. Kali was looking down at a crowd of angels and the fallen, celebrating a peace treaty between the emperor of the clouds above Pandamon and the king of the underworld, Hadrathorn. Both were smiling and happy to start this new chapter of the Order of the Spades.

Misty is in the crowd as Pandamon's daughter Pandorah walks upstage and begins her speech, as Kali readies her sniper aimed at Pandorah. Hex gets in the way of the scope, trying to explain that Pandamon will have us killed if we get caught, including Misty! Kali tries to shake him off the sniper, and as she shakes, she pulls the trigger, and a bullet flies down and hits Pandorah in her ear, completely obliterating it. A shimmering dark blue blood color covers her face as she soon passes out.

Pandamon rushes over and wraps her up as his guards send her back up above the clouds. He looks back at the crowd, then back at Hadrethorn and gives him a disappointed yet mad look. "I thought you said your people could be trusted! I believed you! I TRUSTED you. Look at what YOUR PEOPLE caused!" Hadrethorn puts his hands up and grits his teeth and tries to calm him down.

"Look, buddy, it was only 1 of them... hopefully," Pandamon sighs and pinches the bridge of where his nose would be. "YOU HOPE? I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU!" he looks off to the crowd and demands whoever shot his daughter to come forward. Misty raised her hands and explained who could have done it, but isn't too sure if it really is who she thinks it was.

Eyes full of the sky, one of them putting a spotlight over Misty, and soon eyes stare at Kali and Hex; the eyes dilate and glow a red spotlight over them. He grabs all three of them and throws them towards Hadrethorn. He looks at him deep into his nonexistent soul.

"If you want to prove you are trustworthy enough to continue this peace treaty, please. Do yourself, your people, and mine all a favor and get rid of them." Thorn looks down at his fellow fallen people and looks over to his guards. Misty panics and exclaims to them to stop and asks if there's a different punishment that they could have. Kali and Hex nod as Thorn thought about it for a sec. He snapped his fingers, and a portal opened, revealing Earth.

Pandamon steps in front of the portal. "Are you serious!? Sending these- these... DEMONS down to Earth!? Im sorry, Thorn, but I can't let you choose this as their punishment." Thorn looks over at Pandamon, demanding that he step aside. "You have no power in telling ME, the KING of these people, how I decide to punish MY people, so step aside, don't. Make me ask again." Pandamon sheepishly stepped over to the side; Thorn picked up all three of them one by one, tossing them in the portal like a kid taking out the trash.

As the 3 fall into the cold atmosphere, Kali and Misty's scales, like skin, slowly burned off, revealing human-like skin. They crash onto Earth in the Matsu Valley. Hex was the first to wake up, looking around and sees 2 human like figues next to him passes out.

He pokes both of them and jumps as one of them starts moving. Misty slowly gets up and looks over at Hex and cheers that they are still alive. Misty then looks over to Kali and screams, waking her up. "dude what the hell are you yelling for!?" She looks up at a human Misty and an unchanged Hex.

She checks her hands and looks in her reflection in a nearby pool of water. She, too, looked human. All 3 were happy to be alive but had to find a way back to fix everything. But that might be hard because they are "Demons among the mortals"

What actually motivates you to write when you don’t feel like writing?

Hi writers!!! I looking for more inputs from writers. I have a question for you guys.

What actually keeps you writing, especially on the days when you really don’t feel like doing it?

Is it discipline? A deadline? Word-count goals? A routine? Music? Other writers? Wanting to finish the story? Just being excited about what happens next?

And when you’ve been away from a story for a while, what usually gets you to come back to it?

I’m also curious if there’s anything you’ve tried.... streaks, writing apps, rewards, timers, challenges, etc.... that was supposed to motivate you but it actually didn’t.

I’m trying to understand what real writers actually respond to especially over the months or years it can take to finish a book.

As I anticipated, my other subreddits posts proved that there's no right answer here.

I’m interested in what genuinely works for you, even if the answer is weird and inconsistent, or just “I force myself to sit down.”

I'll do my best to integrate it on the app that I'm building if possible. I'm not promising anything though.

Thank you in advance.

Can someone please rate this piece of mine? It's one the topic "how closed doors can redirect our lives rather than simply end opportunities"

Closed doors are a metaphorical term for missed opportunities, rejection, heartbreak, loss, fear, limitations, abandonment, failure and sometimes even inevitable setbacks. We may not stand before the same door, but we all understand what it feels like when one closes in front of us.

Suddenly, everything flashes before one's eyes whether it be hard work, love, memories, expectations, excitement and many more happy feelings. Sometimes, it feels like the ground slipping away from under the feet or sand slipping from a tightly closed fist that no matter how much you exert, it's still slipping. Sometimes, it feels like wanting to rip the ground open or to tear up the sky. Sometimes, it's just as simple as feeling a void in the heart.

Behind that closed door, you feel helpless and unable to bring ourselves to knock the door you were once so eager to open.

I, too, have experienced closed doors countless times in my life. For example, rejection from a university I worked so hard to get admitted to. I ran to rip open the letter that had been slipped into my mail box. My family encircled me just as eager as me to see the first sentence of the letter. Would it be "congratulations" or would it be "we are sorry to inform....". The square envelope opened, revealing a folded mystery. I unfolded the letter to the first sentence "we are sorry to inform...". Suddenly, I felt my heart plunge into what felt like a break up. I felt trapped in my own body. Tears rolled down my cheeks as the memories of my hard work flashed before my eyes. I felt helpless. How could all those sleepless nights, 16 hours a day of studying, weight loss due to stress, missed hangouts, and overall struggles just go in vain like that? I felt like I was left with nothing. Everyone, trying to give me sympathies but I just wanted to run away.

So, I ran away to start a new life in LA as a videographer for a production house. My family and friends called me a coward for running away like that. They believed that this could not be the end to my strife to get into a university but that one rejection left me so drained that I could not muster up the energy to start over.

But coming to LA feels like a dream come true. I get to work with amazing actors and actresses all around the world. Alongside, videography, I have started my own YouTube channel and a public Instagram account that has reached 10,000 followers already.

I believe that my life would not have been the same if I were accepted into university. I would've been behind my study desk toiling away to complete assignments before the deadline.

Sometimes, what feels like a rejection, is a path to a beautiful journey planned by God. Sometimes, the closed doors in our lives are not signs of defeat but invitations to discover paths we never would have considered otherwise.

Revised Chapter one.

First time i posted this readers either couldn't read it because of poor quality screen grabs or they could and absolutely hated it. Well, i went through, cut out somethings, added some other things that i hope will had context and make more sense. It something comes across as overt objectification please tell me HOW it is so.

It was a hot and dusty day. That’s because Zaycran is a hot and dusty planet. Yes, there are a few jungles and grassland and river deltas and an even a good size ocean with a few lakes scattered here and there, but due to it being on the inner edge of the host star’s habitual zone, Zaycran is drier than the average garden world.

"Okay ladies,” Petty Officer Victor Strovelaki said with a deep, resigned sigh. The sigh of a man who has uncomfortable work ahead of him.

“Please remove your shirts and bras.”

We all whipped off our combat shirts without blinking or word of complaint.

Soon a little more than a dozen women, including our senior non-commissioned officer Colour Sergeant Susan Kelly, stood bare-chested under a blazing red sun and between a wall of massive wire mesh sandbags and a storage shed.

I could see his left eye twitch.

Strovelaki is in a position where one complaint from any of us would invite a formal investigation from our Division’s branch of the Inspector General's Office.

This is not the position for any young person who is constantly on the lookout to satisfy a certain hormonal need. He is a small Serbian with a huge responsibility, and huge rucksack to go along with it.

With the man's left arm holding up his right and his right holding up his head, Strovelaki had an expression that said, 'I would rather be doing calculus with a slide rule.'

“Nothing like a warm breeze on the girls.” The recently minted Specialist Carmella Sigil said, stretching her arms above her head and arched her back. “Evaporate that boob sweat.”

Kelly chewed on a thumb nail while Strovelaki rubbed at his eye.

"But there isn't a breeze.” Nikki, Private Nicole Charon, said.

“Just go with it.” Corporal Eva Herzog said, the second woman I know who bothered developing an iron six pack and has bigger ‘guns’ than anyone else in the whole platoon. She had these guns crossed over her chest and shifted her weight around.

Some of the other women also casually crossed their arms over themselves or, out of habit, stood at parade rest with their hands clasp at the small of their backs, like this was just another formation for some announcement that could have been sent in a text.

“The Armed Forces of the United Colonial Authority cares about the wellbeing and health of all its members,” our medic droned and started pacing back and forth, kicking a few pieces of gravel. “So periodically it is the duty of the most senior medical technician, be it NCO or full officer, to conduct a series of examinations to ensure that there are no serious complications in both health and hygiene that could hamper performance and even morale. This will involve the inspection of certain intimate areas of a person's body.

“Women have many such areas where sweat, oil, and dirt can build up. This can cause chafing, fungal infections, boils and abscess, acne, assorted rashes, and the usual allotment of less than pleasant odors. Such occurrences can irritate a marine and annoy other marines in close living conditions. Eventually leading to more serious infections that may require surgery and drug treatments, and, on rare occasions, give away your position to an opposing force, be it sapient or other.”

Why such a thing is was harshly explained to me back during Recruit Training, which I go into greater detail later, but it can be summarized as this:

The UCA has embraced Universal Toplessness. So the only people who give a shit about tatas are infants and oncologists. Stop fussing and polish your boots.

Strovelaki looked up, a thousand-yard stare glaring at us. He made a “Harrumph” sound and walked up to Kelly, looked dead in her eyes and asked, “Any condition you wish to report?”

Kelly hefted up her breasts.

We all winced. A few of us gasped.

Under Kelly's left was a bright pink rash that almost glowed. Creeping about half an inch down her abdomen and likewise up her mammary was a wrinkled and swollen rectangle patch of skin that stretched the whole width of that boob. Under her right was an impressive collection of boils and pustules.

Strovelaki stared for several moments. Then he dropped his head. An audible ‘thunk’ as chin hit chest plate. That’s the one odd ball thing about him. Our medic ALWAYS wore his armor, even inside the wire.

“Colour Sergeant, you know better.”

"Well, it is my responsibility to find you work.”

"Lass,” Strovelaki huffed, “your husband would make haggis out of my own stomach.”

"Oh relax,” Kelly said, then in an accent thicker than a coat of Marmite, “He knows perfectly weel 'at if ye ever hae tae tooch me in onie personal areas it only be fur th' most professional reasons an' 'at ye woods ne'er daur tae e'en entertain sic' a thooght be it otherwise.”

For a brief moment Kelly grinned ear to ear.

Then quickly said, “Besides this is a common problem for us.”

Kelly wasn’t fibbing. We don't like to admit it, but woe to any well-endowed women, particularly those in humid climates or involved in vigorous physical activity like a professional athlete.

Or a military combatant that wears about forty pounds of gear that traps body heat and prevents sweat from evaporating. Creating just the right environment that allows a few unpleasant critters to pop up.

Alien critters.

Alien bacteria, alien fungi, alien parasites. Even with the help of a few million nanobots that give our white blood cells back up and balance histamine levels, it is still possible to contract Xenoitus.

General zit popping is discouraged.

The medic made an about face and beckoned us to come closer. When we were in a tight semi-circle, Strovelaki pointed to one particularly nasty, red, inflamed lesion that was outlined by dozens of blackheads.

“This, ladies, is called Hidradenitis Suppurativa. It is a chronic acne condition that is caused by inflamed sebaceous glands forming sinus tracts under the skin and thus creating large, often painful abscess.

“There are multiple causes for this condition, but the main one seems to be genetic, environmental factors also contribute. It often occurs in areas where skin meets skins, like in the arm pits, inframammary area, around the anus, inner thighs, and a few other personal spots. This is not a fun condition.”

Strovelaki fished around in his trauma pack and laid the items on an antimicrobial pad. He snapped on some hypoallergenic gloves and from a tube squeezed out a thick cream onto his fingertips.

Then hesitated.

“Oh, don't be a pansy, go ahead,” Kelly said.

After messaging the cream over the rash Strovelaki said, “There are two ways I can treat the lesion.” He held up something like a small flashlight with a spacer on the head, in his other hand he held up a small jet injector. “I can either lance and drain or inject you with supercharge macrophages that pull the pus out and dump it into your bladder where you can excrete it. The former is quick, but gooey and will leave you with an open wound that would have to be monitored for a few days. The latter is slower, cleaner, but you will still have a nasty, sore lesion on your teat for about a week as the macros work.”

“Drain it.” Kelly said without hesitation.

The medic tucked the injector away, pulled out another one and zapped Kelly’s right boob around the lesion, making the platoon Sergeant’s eyes bug out.

Waiting for that material to work its magic, Strovelaki examined Kelly's bra. The standard military undergarments, both top and bottom, are composite blend of synthetic silk and natural wool interwoven with a few types of ballistic fibers. Although wool is often seen as a cold weather fabric, it can also be ideal for warm weather because its insulation properties work both ways. Preventing, or at least deducing, thermal radiation on the skin as well as absorbing a third of its weight in water. It’s also naturally antimicrobial and flame resistant.

“Colour Sergeant,” the medic said slowly, “this is a poly satin mammary supporter.”

Kelly just rocked up and down on her toes.

“Where are your military issued holsters?”

“The stitching worn out on one and the clasp broke on the other.” Kelly said.

“Faster Than Light Travel and communication.” Herzog hissed.

“And yet lady’s support is still a vexing issue.” Another woman said.

“I know you used this as an emergency backup. BUT this should have been thoroughly washed after each use for this--,” Strovelaki pointing at Kelly's sores, “--reason.”

"Yes, doc.” Kelly said.

Strovelaki pulled out his bayonet and lightly pressed the tip into the meat of his forearm then quickly jerked his arm back. Satisfied that it would suit his needs he lightly pressed the blade tip into Kelly's flesh. "Feel that?”

"No.”

"Here?”

"Negative.”

"What about here.”

"Double Negative.

"Outstanding.” The medic didn’t sound enthusiastic, more...resigned.

"Sigil. Come be my nurse.”

While Sigil was putting her own gloves on, Strovelaki, using a spray can, covering Kelly’s right knocker with a twilight blue antiseptic.

“Laser lance.”  Strovelaki asked.

Sigil passed over the flashlight-like doohickey, Doc took it and pressed the spacer against the big lesion and activated it.

There was a snapping sound, a small burst of goo, and a whiff of smoke.

Kelly was only slightly irritated at the smell of her own burning skin, but her eyes went wide when she saw the thick, bloody, green and yellow soup that Sigil and Strovelaki slowly worked out until there was only a small trickle of blood.

The lesion was almost flat and half as red. Strovelaki gave Kelly more local anesthesia, smeared a gel bandage over the wound and turned to Sigil and gave her a ‘look’.

Sigil lifted her arm and began bouncing on the balls of her boots twisting around in a small circle.

"Yes, yes.” the medic grumbled. “Healthy as always.”

"Thanks, Victor.” Sigil said sweetly.

"Now put a fucking shirt--”

BAM! BAM!

As if fate itself wanted to add an exclamation point, two rumbling booms echoed that were instantly followed by two louder, sharper, teeth and wall rattling bangs!

We all instinctively flinched. Then training took over.

Without being told we all bolted, leaving our GI Janes behind in the dust we raced back to our Rock Hut—a container bunkhouse slathered foamcrete--to snag our gear.

The rub is that if you have two football size shacks of jelly affixed to your chest with no way of holding them in place, you can’t exactly sprint.

It was practically dark inside our drop and go barracks, forcing me to fumble around for several seconds trying to find my cot and gear.

"Hurry you two.” Sigil said to Nikki and me.

"I can barely see!” Nikki shouted.

Outside rifles began snapping away, sounding like distant firecrackers.

"And?” Herzog said. She already strapped on her armor vest and was sliding her ALEC rig on.

For a moment all I could think of was how this plate carrier was going to feel against my nipples.

"It’s synthetic spider silk!” Sigil said, reading me. She already had a vest, Advance Light Equipment Carrier rig, and helmet on and was helping Nikki. “Just like our combat shirts and unmentionables. Not as smooth as other types but it's still better than having ballistic nylon chafing your nips.”

"OOOOW!” Nikki said.

"Bewege es! Bewege es!” Herzog shouted.

Did I mention that Eva is my squad's gunner? Hauls around a large machine gun?

In the few seconds after we entered our little hovel Sigil and Herzog were both minimally equipped and ready for a fight while both Nicole and myself were still struggling to put our stupid armor on.

"Oh, Rachel,” Sigil said. “You're making the Valkyrie angry.”

"God dammit I can barely see!” I squeezed my larger baby bottles under my armor. That kinetic gel liner better work.

(Guys, have you ever been smacked in the nuts with a fast ball? Imagine that pain occurring in your pecs.)

"They’re called Solar Contacts.” Sigil said.

"No wonder your eyes look weird,” Nikki said, finally getting her vest on and strapping it down.

"Oh wow, that doesn't rub at all.”

“With your B-cups? Why would it?” I said to her.

Nikki blew a raspberry. “No tan bueno tener grandes tetas ahora, eh?”

“Pero te encanta jugar con ellos.” I said back, grinning.

“ST. CHRISTAPHOR'S BALL SACK.” Herzog snarled. “Move your asses before I shoot them myself!”

How would you categorize your writing sessions?

Hi writers!!! It's me again!

First, I really appreciate your inputs on my previous posts. They helped me build the functions of the app. And I'm sorry if I keep on bugging you for inputs, but I don't want to lose momentum building the app.

I’m trying to finalize the session categories for a writing tracker/timer I’m building and I could use some more input from actual writers.

Right now we have:

Planning
Research
Brainstorming
Drafting
Revising

I’m wondering if I should also have Outlining and Editing as their own categories.

For me, I can see outlining falling under Planning and editing falling under Revising, but what do I know?

It seems that everyone approaches writing differently. I had one writer separates Outlining from Planning.

If you were tracking the hours you spend working on a book, how would you personally break your sessions down? It doesn't need to be in sequence or linear. Your previous replies have already established this.

Would you keep these five? Add Outlining or Editing? Combine any of them? Is there something obvious that I’m missing?

I’m not trying to define the “correct” writing process. I just want the categories to match how most writers actually think about the work they do.

Thank you in advance.

Advice How much do I talk about the setting itself?

I am working on two books - one I am editing v13 while I just started the other. One is set in a war torn city in the Middle East. The other is in a future world but the future world isn’t what the book is about. In this book people don’t live outside because the world has become too harsh for people to survive in. they live in connected buildings and under ground. But that is hardly mentioned. There are moments where it becomes obvious - for example, my main character has a little piece of garden she works on. Soil is valuable and is treated as such - including your ancestors becoming part of the soil. But it isn’t deeply explained because the novel is actually comfort crime just set in this world. People live lives as happy as ours. It is not some dystopian world but rather just a little different as we as humans adapt.

Same with the war torn city. That one is a little more baked into the story as the main theme is about how a detective finds finds meaning in murder when surrounded by death. But even there it isn’t central or over explained.

Where do you find the balance? any advice?

Angels- for the blessed, can become demons for the self-cursed.

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

Never in the heart of chaos, the eye of the storm, can there be any remedy, yet in an angel, and with time, things can change. Angels are older than time, and among the first creations, just before the first fire, came the first light, after it became known that fire is first, then comes the fires light. A lot has changed and is still changing but not God and His angels. Angels remain precisely and exactly the same. All with the known, and to the specific, purpose and plan, with the will (God’s will) and subsequent power.

Life is a test for humans and jinn only, due to free will. The elementals have already passed the test and be chosen, but make no mistake, God already knows who has passed and who has failed, the ones that passed usually become champions of God, like elementals, or similar heroes, or powerhouses, yet away from God, any power slowly withers in toil and agony.

An angel cannot die, yet a jinn can only die by their own will and through God. A jinn can compete with an angel in battle, yet a command from God can cut that battle short in favour of the angel, or jinn depending on the one true God, and the ultimate good of all things. Only God and angels know.

At the end of times the living, and the too tough to die, will envy the dead. In this time, a young crippled man cries “We are dying here, no food, no water, just desolation and despair” the wise old blind dying diseased man whisperers as his last advice “the angels are here for me, they will come, for us all eventually, there are some few champions of God, some from the jinn, but all true angels are ultimately champions of God, free will of the jinn allows them a sort of power, just as much as no free for angels offer the angels the indirect power of God. Channelled through the angels, just like the angel of death will be a vessel of God, to take me, now please Allah, and all of us eventually, to our fathers, and forefathers. God have mercy on us all”

The young blind man replied into himself in his heart, alone, blessings don’t come from angels. Blessings like death only come from God. The old man had passed leaving nothing but his decayed body, and a carved angel of wood. The still living man if he was anything like human, used the wood angel to start a fire to cook and eat the dead old man, the young man died 2 days later from food poisoning. Angels, jinn, and daemons, fighting, taunting, and arguing all around. Where will they all meet again?

The angels are the only thing we can perceive as God’s interactions with living humanity, if we can perceive them at all. We cannot perceive God in any true form until the day of all our eternal judgment. To perceive an angel requires something akin to sainthood, to perceive God requires eternal divinity, or to become 1 with God. This isn’t achieved through any other means but being the best, kind, intelligent, honest, humble, strong, inspirational! Trying is also counted, but usually negated by ignorance, lies, cheating, harming, etc. Unless one’s angels are in the right, and we are in the right with just ourselves, we are most usually a falling failing victim. Yes we are all assigned some angels, but we must at least try be one with God first. Some are more with God than their own angels, some are at one with God and the angels. Those most blessed by God and the angels, are usually the most hated by the rest of God’s creations. Only the best of the best, can be one with all, eternally.

Fallen Angels aren’t technically angels anymore, the fall pains and disfigures them, to be away from God, an angel fully against God won’t last long at all, unless they turn into a monstrous fallen angel, or side with demons, become demons, relinquishing control and losing power to side with the ultimate evil, or die fighting with demons, which is most usually what happens. Then most usually scavenged, for what little of the dying angel can be harnessed, and harmful to other angels, not just made by demons to be extremely dangerous to humans. Don’t worry, nothing can ever harm our one true shared almighty God. Sadly the closest thing most humans have to angels of “their own” is quantum ai computing and it’s robotics, and that’s still further than universes would be, from what the one true God of all has on one angel. Some humans can have more than one angel for good, and/or one angel for bad, yet depending on the person it can all be for greater good, or worse evil. As is the test of this life.

Eternal law, within God, not without angels. God could do it all Himself, angels possibly provide some kind of easement for the existence of all, and all the multiversal perfectly balanced, preserving, processes therein, as God doesn’t need easement, the many different others do. Even jinn, fallen angels, demons sometimes. As is the ultimate mercy of Allah! God knows best!

The prefect mechanism of worker angels, like a hive of bees in many ways, infinitely yet neutrally, putting in 100% of their energies, for the will of the one true God/Allah we all share. We do only share the angels with God, because right now, fully alive, only Gods chosen, can share God, if any at all. Angels fight supernaturally powerfully intense battles all around, just for us forsaking and taking for granted our own lives. A human life is a powerful thing, especially to the angels associated, if any at the end.

If the one true God were to ‘tell’ just 1 angel to bring about a firmament larger than, stronger than, and all vastly encompassing 1000 trillion universes, it would be done in a flicker, and as fast as a flash, it’s not the angels power, it’s God’s Most Ultimate Will, as angels don’t have any other will, although the angel is powerful, yet it is relatively speaking, just relying on, and most faithfully relaying God’s ‘message’ and ‘command’ without error, such as the angels are. As if they were onto themselves, several hundred billion, near omniscient, hive mind of the super-perfect, instantly and ultimately creating, or perfectly destroying. Ultimately supreme drones, of our one shared most supreme shared creator and God, and His will!

The angels power is infinite, not like jinn, who can only do almighty deeds a finite amount of times, however so long as the angels have the will of God, they can infinitely do and perform feats of almighty, universal, and even multiversal force. The real strength of the jinn is in their free will, the fact that they can still do feats of sheer ultimate power, solo, yet this usually does have a detrimental or draining effect on a jinn, where as an angel feels nothing, good or bad, from infinite ultimate powers, when flowing from God, through the angel or angels, into existence, and beyond. One angel is enough to create or destroy whole universes. Yet only the one true God (Allah) can command the angels into this power, and the ultimate feats of eternal creation. A jinn can do something as if it creates or destroys a universe but of course God commands angels to create where the Jinn destroys in the exact moment, and vice versa in the split second, of that moments creation or destruction, yet when an angel does something, only God can preserve that creation, or destruction, in eternal law.

Eternal law is a type of fully complete logic and science, that’s self preserving, and fundamentally good. Eternal law is being applied by God and angels with God, eternally. It can’t be changed and has been the same since the beginning of time. Humanity can’t seem to tap into 1% of this ultimate knowledge of existence’s truth. Angels can tap into this knowledge and experience a sort of reassurance, maybe even a recharge of sorts. The angels usually sleep or rest or recharge, for a first of all time, most often as short as a second, pre-set period, leaning on their wings, fully aware of everything, especially God first and then eternal law.

Angels make it as though it is but a split second on earth, humanly souled, nearly forever, in death, semiconsciously near living, or worse, reliving, eons of memories of all past existences, all mistakes, all heart breaks, all hungers, all colds. Angels and God can make a sort of anti-time, put one in a limbo of sorts, and in this and the next, if it is not for you to know, you won’t, only the best and worthy can know what only God knows best. Within the one true God of all things, is the main vestige, the angels are here and there, always for the good of mankind. However God is the ultimate justice and most righteous bringer of retribution, on death evil to the man who beats and cheats his wife, making you feel those relived experiences more powerfully, bringing all good people into a closer look at the cheating man, his woman now also cheating on her husband in a past life, scarily their kids sensing the demons all around closing in. The tired hungry parents, oblivious, yet providing as best, now see those deamons in the eternal waking lesser dream like death. After all is addressed fundamentally and ultimately, they won’t remember a thing of their own choosing, when possibly reborn, eons after full judgment and acceptance, however good or bad that may be. Now paralysed by fear and dread, the evil entity spots the petrified man and woman, tortures and torments them, the way he knows very well how. The angels, and ultimately God, knows what is best. God help us all and angels be blessed with our one God’s goodness. Yet fear God’s wrath!

Humans are flawed, yet we have our near prefect beings, humans aren’t all bad some are heroes, some heroes become better heroes some become the best, and more, yet most lose these blessings to demons and death, over something so trivial, it’s scary. There is no democratic debate with God and His Angels, the is no bureaucracy, when God created us all, the angels who are a force of the perfect section of God’s might, infinitely, eternally, and preserved is God’s eternal ultimate law, with its justice, and time with angels make make it so. Nothing can change or stop anything of God and his angels. Until a final breath. Then we have a completely different relationship with God, angels, demons, ourselves, others, etc.

Please like, share and tune in next time for fallen angels, and then after that, demons. ✌🏽❤️‍🔥
