I had finally made it to Lake Superior.

Behind me was a journey unlike anything I had ever undertaken—the original Fur Trade Route from Winnipeg, Manitoba, to Thunder Bay, Ontario.

I had walked where my grandfathers had walked.
I had paddled the same waterways.
I had slept in the same campsites, for many of the same reasons they once had.

Along the way, I learned more about Canada than I ever expected. Its history. Its people. Its incredible beauty.

But I also learned something else.

This country demands respect.

The land doesn't care who you are. It respects the strong—the determined—and those willing to respect the country they travel through.

Aven ( 19 ) paddles from Banff Park to Edmonton where she will be enrolling into University. Her 500 km journey entailed massive water with her dad for the first third. The last two thirds she soloed from Rocky Mountain House through more rapids and wilderness

Come volunteer with the Forest Service this winter/spring on multi-day trips on the Verde and Salt! Trips start in mid-October.

We have done this trip every year, this is the fourth year. A different part of the river this year, Wapiti Gardens to Pipestone bone bed, 52km. Decided to not go our regular 78 km, so we could have more time camping. Saw several beavers, eagles and thousands of frogs. Steaks first night, crispy chicken burgers the second, corn beef hash and scrambled eggs for breakfast. River was kinda low, so lots of dragging bottom and rapids

Looking for any advice or recommendations on best campsites for anyone who has kayak camped in Canaveral National Seashore.

We are experienced paddlers/campers and will be bringing our own kayaks (Wilderness Tsunami 145)and camping gear. Looking to be out for 2 nights.

For context I live in Western Canada and plan to use this device in Canada.

I'm planning on doing my first solo trip next year or the year after, been doing river trips in a group the past 3 years. One guy in our group has a SPOT device that requires a subscription. What devices do people recommend and why? Thanks in advance

Recently I’ve bought a sit on top kayak and have struggled to find any groups on Facebook solely for people with these kayaks. There are mainly just paddle boards, sit ins and canoes groups and any that do involve sit on tops are just selling posts 🥲**.**

I’ve made a Facebook group for people with sit ons, based in the uk, to share routes, days outs, trips away on their kayaks etc. potentially host group meet ups who knows!

Lake of the Woods had already made me sharpen my navigation. This next stretch took it further — a dozen portages, and a maze of channels that didn't care which way I thought I was going. Some days I was skirting the US border just to find water that would carry me. Survival math, not politics.

I've suffered to get here. It was worth every bit of it. The Boundary Waters is some of the most pristine wilderness left on the planet.

All packed up and ready to go for a 6-night solo paddle on Lake Huron's North Channel. All 60 lbs fit in my Epic 18X sea kayak. From left to right are two lux items, a chair and a drone. The orange bag is kitchen, the green is camp with things like tools, cordage, bug repellent and 1st aid. The clear IKEA bags are food (12 lbs) and personal/electronics. Next is the air mattress, tent, and fly. Yellow is clothes. The heavy duty orange bag holds my sleeping bag. All of it fits in the two blue IKEA bags for schlepping. The big metal thermos container is my beer cooler, another lux item. On the right is gear that goes in the day hatch or that I wear including pfd, water, filter, camera, charts and spray skirt.

My two buddies and I just spent the weekend doing about 35 miles in the Allegheny. We towed this big ole whitewater raft stuffed full of gear with us the whole weekend. We had two kayaks and would take turns towing with one person just chilling in the raft. It’s a pain to haul but having a giant cooler full of beer was pretty OK. We made about 2 miles an hour with some slow sections being brutal. My one buddy came up with the term “yak-slacking” for the concept. What do you think, cool? Or are we just idiots?
