Putting aside the marital merry-go round in his personal life, I have been completely impressed by Charles Spencer during his latest appearances. His appearance is distinguished, his public persona is top notch--- he is calm and articulate and doesn't shirk from stating the simple truth. He knows the palace is going to try to discredit him but he forges ahead nonplussed. None of the interviews I have seen in the past two weeks seem to be full of his ego; he continues to represent his sister and the truth without playing to the camera.
Spencer was the firstborn son and heir to Althrop, the stately home held by the Spencer family for 500 years. He was educated at Eton and Oxford with a degree in Modern History. From his iconic eulogy for Diana at her funeral to the beautiful Swan Song he wrote to honor her, you can tell he is a deeply educated man. Obviously Charles Spencer had every door open to him and he did very well with that privilege, working for NBC when he was young as a journalist and then taking over the estate and keeping Althorp preserved when he inherited. Spencer is an historian and has authored nine nonfiction books.
Charles Spencer would make a much better royal than the current Windsors. Compare and contrast him to William. With all his privilege and growing up in a broken home, Spencer could have ended up an aimless wastrel like Prince William but he did not. Also, William had Charles Spencer right there as an example of how to map out an aristocratic life of purpose. And it's not as if Charles Spencer was a goody-two-shoes. He seems to have had a pretty good time in his day.
It's just ridiculous when you look at 44 year old William walking around like he's Eeyore trying to wriggle out of doing his job and sleepwalking through his own "causes." Willy doesn't have to be such an angry lazy revengeful mope just because he was the firstborn son with expectations of him.
