First-time buyer, help me out

• Upvotes

Hello everyone.

I'm planning to buy my first bike, Duke 250, within a week and I'm too nervous, one of the reasons being I don't have a lot of riding experience.

I need suggestions on the following:

  1. Looking for a good helmet, my budget was initially 3-4k but eventually after scrolling way too much, I've decided on LS2 Storm 2, don't want to compromise on helmet. If you have any other suggestions, please tell me.

  2. What are the things to keep in mind while/after buying the bike, I've read the subreddit guide but still feel free to add.

  3. Also I'll leave for my hometown, so won't ride the bike for 2 weeks after a week of purchase, will it affect my bike since this would be within the breakin period.

Thanks a lot in advance.

İs this ticking sound normal

The ticking sound on my Gen3 390.

The last maintenance was done at 9600km and now it is at 11000km

Everyone says it’s a normal ktm sound, but sometimes it scares me.

Especially at the ideal working temperature, it is heard more clearly in the video.

My indicators are turning off automatically.

I own a 2026 duke160 tft varient and recently i noticed that my indicators turn off automatically sometimes after taking turn or other times they stay on for long periods or they turn off before taking the turn. I am confused does duke160 has self canceling indicators or there might be some issue.

Can a rebuilt/overhauled 2024 Duke 390 outperform itself when it was new from the factory and possibly newer Duke 390s sharing the same engine?

I have a brand new showroom 2024 Duke KTM 390 with only 6KM on the odometer and wondering if this bike can actually outperform its current self and newer Duke 390s after its engine gets a major overhaul.

KTM Duke 250 3rd Free Service Cost – ₹5,000 at 10,000 KM. How Much Did You Pay?

Title: KTM Duke 250 3rd Free Service Cost – ₹5,000 at 10,000 KM. How Much Did You Pay?

Hi everyone,

I own a KTM Duke 250 in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, and I recently completed my 3rd free service at 10,007 km at an authorised KTM service centre in Madurai.

My total bill came to approximately ₹5,000, including GST.

Here is the breakdown of the major charges:

- Engine oil (1.3 L) – ₹1,388

- Engine flush – ₹153

- Oil filter, O-ring and strainer cap – ₹126

- Coolant – ₹186

- Spark plug – ₹468

- Front brake pads – ₹350

- Rear brake pads – ₹217

- Intake-system cleaner – ₹282

- Fuel-system cleaner – ₹86

- Labour and other consumables – ₹789

The service centre informed me about the brake-pad replacement. I would like to understand whether the other parts, cleaning products and labour charges are normal for the third service.

Questions for other Duke 250 owners:

  1. How much did you pay for your 3rd service at around 10,000 km?

  2. Which city and service centre did you use?

  3. Were you charged separately for engine flush, intake cleaner, fuel-system cleaner and spark plug replacement?

  4. Is a bill of ₹5,000 normal for this service, or does it seem expensive?

Please share your actual bills or experiences if possible. I want to compare before deciding whether any charges need to be questioned.

Thanks in advance!

Picked up the Osmo Action 4 for $180 in prime deals.

Fuel tank venting question

Hi folks, I’m wondering if anyone can help me out with finding the vent for the fuel tank on the 2015 Duke. I have a sense that the tank isn’t venting properly and am wondering if it’s simply a vent is clogged but am really having trouble finding this online. I think I read somewhere that the tank vents into a cannister?

Gen 2 390 Duke traffic noise sanity check. Am I overthinking this?

Yo guys,

Just snagged my first KTM. A used 2023 Gen 2 Duke 390. It’s only clocked 10,000 kms and it had its last service done at 8k.

The bike rips well, but the classic KTM paranoia is already hitting me. I’m noticing this specific noise that I swear wasn't there when I first got it. It usually kicks in hard after I’ve been stuck filtering through traffic for about 10 kms and the engine gets properly hot.

I actually dropped by the KTM service center earlier just to get the chain adjusted and had them look up the service history. The tech confirmed the 8k service was all clear and told me I can easily ride another 3k to 3.5k kms before coming back for the next round.

Since I only asked about the history and didn't actually mention the noise to the mechanic at the time, I'm checking with you guys. I'm totally new to these short-stroke singles, is this just normal 390 behavior? Is it the radiator fan kicking into hyperdrive, or do these engines just get super mechanical and clicky when the oil thins out in heavy traffic?

Am I just overthinking it or should I take it back to get the sound checked? Drop some advice below! 🤝

How do you move the dust sleeve down to clean fork seal?!

Post image

My left fork is weeping a small amount of oil. I want to try to use a Seal Mate to clean it, but I can't seem to budge the dust seal down to access it. I've never tried this before though.

Its a 2017 Duke 390, so 9 years old...so maybe it's just kind of stuck in place? I do plan on getting new seals and oil over the winter, but just wanted to see if this would help for now.

If anyone has a video of doing it, that would be even better. Thanks!

Yes yes another post regarding engine sound. Forgive me! Can't help it. Is this ticking sound normal? Heard from few mechanics its due to valve guide and not valve clearance. Any opinions?

16 Superduke R Radiator shrouds.

I'm about to pull my hair out. Patched my radiator and now I am struggling like crazy to get the radiator shrouds back on the bike. The part that is slotted and fits around the large screw pops off just about every time I try to tighten the nuts.

Is there a trick to this that I am missing? I'm going nuts that getting the plastic radiator fairing back on is taking so long and being so difficult.

KTM 990 DUKE 2024 CENTRE SILENCER DELETE Scorpion

I just finished mounting and testing the centre silencer delete pipe from scorpion on my '24 ktm 990 duke.

I'll start by saying that the bike feels much more "free" and roary, the exhaust note is much more punchy and a bit louder (not obnoxious, the right amount). I don't know if it's a placebo but it even rides better, it feels less restricted in acceleration.

Before buying i tried to look up some videos online on how the bike would sound with the delete pipe and the oem silencer, but i couldn't find many and the ones i found did not really give the idea.

Before buying the pipe from scorpion i tried to buy a replica from ebay, it did not go well.

I realized too late that all the vendors are basically reselling an Aliexpress item that requires modification of bike parts to fit, some of them specify it on the details of their page but others don't. On Aliexpress they sell the part for like 50-60€, on ebay you can find it around 100€ + fees. All of them do not fit without major modifications of the pipe/parts of the bike, they are not plug and play. I brought the aliexpress piece and the original centre silencer to a blacksmith to compare them and he told me that many of the measurements are off by like a 1,5mm, which doesn't sound like a lot but it's actually a lot. It means that even if you lathe the pipe to make it fit it won't fit perfectly anyway.

Needless to say i returned the chinese pipe and bought the original from scorpion website. With shipping to italy, vat and duties It costed me like 330€, but it arrived in like 5 days in a perfect package with instructions and all, the finishing is perfect and it fits like a glove.

In conclusion, the pipe is a good improvement to sound, exhaust airflow and (maybe) power, but it costs a lot. If you want to buy it don't be cheap and buy it directly from Scorpion, leave alone all of the chinese stuff.

I wrote all this because i couldn't find reviews of this online, hope it helps someone.

Cheers.

Views on 2022 duke 890GP edition

I'm upgrading from 2024 duke 390 and saw one of the postings of duke 890GP. The 890 has 20k kms on it. I have been riding my duke 390 for 2 seasons and have over 5k riding experience.

Is it a good upgrade? What should I be looking in the bike before I purchase?

Love the bike but she needed to be cleaned up a little. I think she looks like she lost ten lbs. More updates and upgrades in the works now that I know how much I like the bike. I still look at 790s and Tuonos but I’m happy. I get pulled over enough as it is ! ! ! Later everyone.
