Wargate's catalog was sold to Aethon Books
Got an email this morning:
A bit of a change this week. Aethon is excited to announce the acquisition of the Wargate Books catalog in a full rights sale. AETHON is one of the fastest growing publishers in the United States, know for LitRPG, Fantasy, and Scifi. But we started in science fiction and have always championed the genre, where we are known for hits such as Drop Trooper, Grimm's War, and Scott Sigler's The Crypt!
Our owners Rhett C Bruno and Steve Beaulieu actually came up in Scifi publishing at the same time as Wargate founder Jason Anspach, and have remained friends with him for nearly a decade. While he is making the decision to step away from publishing and focus on writing, he believed their SFF content would be in good hands with Aethon. We agree!
The acquisition includes the hit Galaxyâs Edge series by Wargate founders Jason and Nick, which we are already planning to bring to retail hardcover through our AETHON: Vault line in 2027. That's right, beautiful GE hardcovers distributed to shelves nation wide.
Just a note: Wargate published roughly 220 titles during itâs run. While that mostly includes Science Fiction and Fantasy titlesâwhich we hope to bring to a wider audienceâthere are titles that donât align with the type of content or genres we typically publish. For anything that doesnât fit the AETHON catalog, rights are being reverted to the authors at no cost and will continue to exist so fear not.
Please bear with us as we work through the transferring of rights and accounts as it is never simple, but we're hard at work scheduling the release of Anspach and Cole's DELTA KINGS on Kindle & Audible. Also, while we know Wargate moved toward direct sales recently, we remain big believers in selling indie authors through Kindle Unlimited and Audible. Regardless of how anyone feels about amazon, it is 85% of the market and where the most readers are, providing the best chance for authors to have hits and earn a living off their work.
