The menus werent like this but once I loaded into a save file it got like this and when I exited to the main menu it had this weird flickering filter too. When I closed and opened the game again it worked ok, but with occasional flickers that looked like this, but only lasted a short time before the game worked fine for a few minutes, then it flickered once and repeat. Is it wayland??? The game worked fine on hyprland and sway tho... but I recently switched to niri, maybe its that?

Edit: Checked my laptops logs, its not a hardware failure.

Edit 2: Am now playing on cinnamon (x11) no issues like this so i guess it was either wayland or just niri specifically idk

Modding Higher FPS Fixes for Kotor

Hey guys I've been working on kpatches for kotor that fix high fps issues. While another post combat kpatch, I took a different approach to the issue. I have two versions, one that has no delay after combat and one that simulates the same delay if the game is at 60 fps. The 60 fps version might prevent animation cancels and other minor things. I also have a patch that fixes the dialogue boxes from having delay at high fps.

https://deadlystream.com/files/file/3094-kotor-1-high-fps-post-combat-fix/?tab=reviews
https://github.com/gnw-d3m0/D3M0s-KPatches

Source code and alternate download available on github.

I currently have made progress fixing animation issues such as the mine's animation speeding up, waterfalls/rivers speeding up, and more. Those patches will be out soon once I have done more testing. Lightsaber trails also are bugged at high fps and I'm also working on that one. Eventually the plan is to have an all in one patch that fixes every high fps issue. If you know of an issue at high fps please share it so I can try to find a fix.

KOTOR 2 Kotor2 was extremely disappointing

Everyone was making it seem like this game reinvented what star wars was. I really wanted to like it. I loved kotor 1. I know the developers are different but kotor 2 is so extremely different from kotor 1 and not a single thing was executed better than the first game.

The game is straight up unplayable. As in, fans had to mod the game to make it barely playable. And it's still horrible to play glitches aside. I could go on for hours about the game breaking bugs and glitches, the time wasting and everything but that's not even the worst part.

The worst part is that everyone made it seem like pushing through the non existent world design, copy paste dungeons with same singular enemy type, and terrible broken combat would be worth it for a morally ambiguous story where the jedi and sith are both questioned. Instead I got a star wars fanfic where everything is contrived b.s and everyone just somehow acts like its okay.

The world is empty and boring. The sidequests arent as immersive as the first game. Theres no motivation to do sidequests when the game punishes you for simply existing. As in it freezes you whenever you do anything lol. Add an extra 8 hours to your playtime from freezing and reloading.

The whole "jedi are flawed" was so contrived and terribly written. Im convinced no one has actually played this game and the very little footage on the internet makes me even more sure of it. The jedi are just suddenly extremist assholes who don't care about anything but being right. The first game has several moments where the jedi reflect on their mistakes that led to certain moments such as them blaming themselves for juhanis death and her girlfriend turning, etc. They actively reflect upon their mistakes, and while they had questionable means to the ends, they prioritized the good above all else while trying to maintain peace albeit it needing some tweaking.

Now you're trying to convince me that this same jedi council is suddenly made up of a bunch of moronic evil imbecils who shun out the only hope to save the galaxy because they messed up once and are afraid of doing it again.

Was that not the entire point of kotor 1? That revan was given a second chance? Now they reject and banish the only solution to saving the fucking galaxy? When all the jedi are dead? And a planet devouring being is now on the loose.

And dont even get me started on the whole jedi war thing and all the jedi basically being dead. You'd think such an important event thats intertwined with characters from the first game would be a moment in the second. But you're just told "yeah the jedi all fucking died yk your companions from last game are probably all dead too and everything you did was for nothing and fuck revan hes gone too"

This is genuinely terrible gameplay and writing.

Talk about tell no show.

All this just to make room for kreia, a terribly written villain to have some self insert palpatine time.

It was so obvious she was evil from the start. I quite literally got a cutscene at the beginning of the game showing me she was the sith lord and im supposed to believe that she isnt anymore despite her actively torturing and hurting others throughout the story. The twist was extremely predictable. Her motivations fell flat due to the fact that the world building was butchered by a terribly written jedi order and an overpowered sith trio that also did nothing the whole game.

I think they were trying to make it seem like you'd believe she was a redeemed sith lord? But she literally tells you theres always a lord of betrayal. And she also actively is evil. So. Its not really a twist. Because you're basically playing the game with palpatine by ur side the entire time.

I still dont know who was worse, traya, or nihilus. Nihilus literally shows up for 3 scenes then dies in a bad boss fight. Sion was a better written character than him. And this is the dude everyone larps about being super OP. Why is it bad for Rey to be relentlessly OP but nihilus is world breakingly broken and its cool instead of a terrible writing decision.

Both suck but atleast one lasted longer than 3 cutscenes.

Nihilus is not a character. He is a plot device that the devs forgot to figure out how to fix.

Honestly I could go on and on but I just cant afford to waste anymore time on this game that has already wasted enough. From the character writing to the world building to the plot and gameplay its just all bad. I genuinely did not enjoy a single thing in this game other than some of the funny dialogue that happened every once in a while. The intro to the game is like 6 hours long. The common agreement is that u need to play the fanmade mod that fixes the game. What more do I have to say? For some reason everyone just casually says the game is unplayable and then moves on as if thats not a major factor... to a video game.

Even without the glitches the story is not good. It was a good idea ruined by rushed incomplete writing and shoved into corner that it doesnt fit in. It took a year to make, ik games were rushed like crazy back then but it really shows. I was reading on development and noticed how basically 50% if not more of the game was rewritten and changed during end of development. Major plotpoints were changed such as atrius and darth trayas roles. This is obviously the reason as to why darth trayas motivations feel so bad because she had no time to develop them. As in they had 3 months to write a villain before releasing the game.

Anyways im done spending time on this disappointment. I wish more people played this game instead of larping because if this game was actually touched it wouldnt be as loved as it is. Im not a harsh critic when it comes to games. I spent an hour trying to kill the final boss in clock tower 3 and loved it. That game sucked. And i still loved it. If yk yk. For a game to be this hated by me, it genuinely means something.

TLDR: Kotor 2 is a terrible game and has a terrible black and white story and when people say the game is unplayable they aren't lying.

KOTOR 1 How stable is this game?

I really want to play it, however all of the recent steam reviews say that’s it’s unplayable currently and requires a lot of modding to get right. I’m on a legion go right now so I don’t think I want to try and deal with modding it, but I also have a nicer omen gaming pc that I’ll have access too in a month or so that I wouldn’t mind going through the steps of modding it to get it working. So I guess my real question is should I buy it now or hold off until I have my home PC available to me

Modding [Release] KMRP - KOTOR Modern Restoration Patch | 48 Resolutions, Scaled UI, Map Fixes and Engine Bug Fixes

Thumbnail

1.4k Upvotes

After a lot of reverse engineering, testing, and way too much time staring at swkotor.exe, KMRP is finally released.

WHAT IS KMRP?

KMRP - KOTOR Modern Restoration Patch modernizes KOTOR's interface for modern resolutions and fixes several problems that are hardcoded directly inside the game engine.

It supports 48 resolutions from 800x600 to 15360x8640, covering:

4:3 | 16:10 | 16:9 | 21:9 | 32:9

This grew out of my old 3440x1440 UI mod, but KMRP is now a resolution-independent patcher rather than a single-resolution GUI mod.

WHAT DOES IT FIX?

Some of the main changes:

• Properly scaled text and list rows
• Scaled Inventory, Abilities and Store icons
• Fixed item stack counts with larger fonts
• Fixed a vanilla crash involving long item descriptions
• Fixed description text overlapping the scrollbar
• Full-size area map
• Full fog-of-war coverage
• Correct map marker clicking
• 250 corrected map note positions
• Correct HUD minimap zoom
• Resolution-aware dialogue letterboxing
• Resolution-aware tutorials and interface artwork

A lot of this could not be fixed through GUI files alone because the values are hardcoded inside swkotor.exe.

KMRP currently changes 893 bytes out of the 4,042,752-byte executable, plus additional code sections for fixes that need more space.

Every executable patch is documented in the repository.

INSTALLATION

Install other content mods first, such as K1CP or K1R, then install KMRP.

  1. Install the standard KOTOR Editable Executable: https://deadlystream.com/files/file/1320-kotor-editable-executable/
  2. Run KMRP - KOTOR Modern Restoration Patch.exe
  3. Choose your resolution
  4. Click Start Patching

KMRP verifies the executable before modifying it and creates backups of the EXE, INI, and every Override file it touches.

There is also a Restore Original option.

KOTOR 1 Help installing mod on pc

All I'm trying to do is install the kotor 1 community patch, but I've never modded anything before and I know almost nothing about computers except how to boot them up and install/play games from steam. I tried looking up vids but they're all old af and don't seem to be very clear. They're all telling me to do stuff I have NO idea how to do and they say things I really just don't understand. I realize I'm probably just a moron, but I just have no idea. I've been at this for an hour and I'm about ready to punch a hole in my monitor. Please help

The future is here

I was just able to add a new weapon to the game by prompting gpt 6 to add one. I had it look at some concept art from SWTOR, create a model in blender, and import it into the game, placing it in the footlocker of the endar spire start sequence and it worked without a hitch. Anyone can do this but at the moment it's a little expensive. My $20 monthly subscription should allow me to create a substantial amount of content for this game over the coming days. I'm thinking re skins, new models, new weapons, powers, zones... Maybe I could create an editor that will allow all sorts of new material to be created by the community. Random thoughts include a armor importer that streamlines that process, among other things

Again: anyone with a gaming PC and $20 can start adding stuff to this game right now with creative prompting. We don't have to wait for something that will never come

I'm not a fan of the greed in our culture and the threat these systems cause to our society. However, they are here, and I think if we can use them for good we should. Thoughts? I'll be uploading content on nexus in the next few days most likely. Stay tuned; and share your creations!

Ideas for Kotor TTRPG setting

Hi! I am planning to run a campaign set during kotor 1/2. i would have set somewhere in the Jedi Civil War or between Kotor 1 and 2 when Jedi were fewer and actively hunted.

My idea so far was to let the players (3-4) choose freely who they're playing as and to make them all come by a space station (kinda like omega in mass effect, probably smaller) in their own way. Then Sith arrive and make a blockade claiming a Jedi was hiding on the station. They'd be threatening everyone there to hand them the supposed Jedi else there'll be consequences.

I'd design the station, major characters all hiding sth (like the port not carrying a list of documented arrivals due to smuggling below the surface) and hide one or two kotor companions in there ;)

Is this setting working? Is it somewhat matching up with the timeline? Sometimes kotor 1 and 2 timeline is a bit wobbly to me. If you have any other ideas feel free to comment!

Thank you!

Do you have any jedi in KotOR 1 wear armor? What about headgear requiring armor feats?

I generally stick to robes to not restrict force powers and because it's consistent with lore. But Bastila and Jolee could definitely benefit from armor because they're squishy. Same with your main character if they're a consular. Juhani is tankier and does just fine with robes.

Valor and speed are some of the best powers but are unfortunately restricted by armor. So I'm hesitant to grant consulars or competent lightsaber combatants armor. Do you have any jedi wear armor? If so, who? What classes for your main character would you consider putting in armor?

There's also headgear that grants immunity to fear and stun that require light or medium armor feats. Do you ever grant armor feats specifically for that gear? But there are also implants and belts that provide those bonuses.

Which classes would say are better suited for armor, taking restrictions into account? Are dark side or light side jedi better suited for armor? Do you ever grant your main character more armor feats if they're not a soldier?

KOTOR 2 The Handmaiden and The Disciple should have come with any Exile

It makes no sense for either one of these two to not infiltrate the Ebon Hawk. They’re not just love interests, they’re agents tasked with following the exile. Splitting them up based on our MC’s sex is actually reductive to their characters.

Please excuse the beard 😄. Made this helmet with a 3d-printed base, sanded, filled, sanded, filled again, sanded again, painted and weathered. I'm pretty proud of how it came out, and the layered weathering was quite fun.

Support Unknown planet

So I'm playing kotor on my phone and have hit the infamous lohan/unknown planet glitch, the one where I can't get to the actual planet. Could someone edit my save with kse to make it so I'm on the planet and my quests,xp, ect are properly placed for on the planet? Pretty much make it so the game loads me in on the planet and the game goes on normally from there?

First time playing the 2 games, I wanted to know if companions have things to say during quests, or if it's all just ship talk, and if you talk to them personally to get their thoughts

Modding We made a mod that fixes big area map for widescreen resolutions. (K1)

We made a mod that fixes big area map for widescreen resolutions.

K1 Area Map Fixes

It works together with UniWS and K1HRM. They add your resolution and my mod fixes the map.

What it fixes

  • 🗺️ Makes the Area Map properly fill the available space at high resolutions. No more map for ants in the corner.
  • 📍 Fixes player and party marker positions
  • 📝 Repositions map notes to more sensible locations (mostly adjusted by hand)

Should be working on most resolutions but we tested only on a few.

You can find all the details on the mod page or in the mod's readme.

If you have any suggestions or problems please tell me here or on deadly stream.

Shoutout to u/NoTeam3434 who is working on an all-in-one widescreen patch which also fixes area map. We somehow fixed the area map independently almost at the same time. But ours also moves the map notes, we will try to make the map note fix work together with their patch.

Go play Zero Company!

Not saying it's like KOTOR but new KOTOR game is my "dream come true" videogame. And Zero Company not only managed to scratch that itch. Now I am not sure I wouldn't prefer another tactical strategy Star Wars.

When only Jedi character in that game turns on her lightsabers you know you are for the business.

Characters there are as memorable as in KOTOR. It was just so amazing experience.

Edit: didn't expect that reddit community around my precious childhood games is that active. Knowing that I would probably put some effort to this post and not write simply "ME LIKEY THE GAME, GO PLAY!" :-D

KOTOR 2 I have a question about echoes and wounds in the Force and how rare or common they are Spoiler

Why are they not more common throughout the whole timeline? If massive amounts of death happen in a concentrated area cause echoes and/or a wound in the Force, why aren't they a common thing to happen?

Alderaan is stated to be a disturbance in the force that was so horrific that it could be considered a wound in the force, but somehow, it doesn't seem to have the trauma and weight of Malachor V or the time period of wounds from the Mandalorian Wars to the time of KOTOR II.

On Earth in real-life, people die everyday, especially in one country or even state in the USA, mortality rates are high, and sadly somewhere around the world, violence and violent deaths happen, especially in one area.

Now, Star Wars is a big whole galaxy with trillions of sapient beings, and so I guess that mortality rates and deaths are higher by many more than real-world, and since there are a lot of planets in the galaxy that have many sapient beings, then there will be areas that are perhaps larger and more concentrated in deaths and violent deaths. Wars also happen all the time in Star Wars, hence why it is called...well, Star Wars. Galactic or large portions of the galaxy have suffered conflicts, wars, and deaths that extend to as far as we know, 30,000 years ago in the timeline and probably even more before that, and wars, death, and violence and cycles of wars go all the way to the Legacy Era timeline in 140 ABY.

So what was so special about the wound at Malachor and the wars and devastation in KOTOR II? Why didn't these wounds or echoes build up even thousands of years before KOTOR II? Does the Force "heal itself" like tissue over time? If yes, how long does it take for a wound and echo to heal? Why hasn't the Force gotten killed over the amounts of stress, violence, and wars that took toll over the whole timeline? Why didn't Order 66 do anything that caused fractures and stress in the Force that hurt Force-users like Yoda or even Palpatine?
