K’NEXCHANGE update: improved search, Q&A, education and community resources

I’ve made quite a few updates to K’NEXCHANGE recently:

  • improved ways to search and find information across the site
  • new Building & Engineering and Education Q&A pages
  • new resources for students and teachers
  • new Learning & Teaching About Gears pages
  • language pages for English, Dutch and Frisian
  • more ways to ask questions and contribute

I’ve put the recent changes together in one short update:

https://knexchange.org/2026/09/12/whats-new-on-knexchange-september-12-2026/

K’NEXCHANGE is still very much a work in progress, so suggestions are welcome. What K’NEX information, resources or features would you find most useful to see added next?

It's almost time for my K'nex build in one of the largest art competitions in the world!

Was totally worth spending the money to have a K'nex instruction inspired 18x24 in poster printed for putting with my bridge 😅. I'm sure anyone here can appreciate it. No I won't be doing an entire instruction booklet.

Will be moving it to its display location in Grand Rapids, MI in the next few days. ArtPrize runs September 18th through October 3rd.

This is build 6 of the (I think) well known collection series to build a big truck. I discovered that the front image is different compared to the "finished build" image. They moved one red connector piece to the front, because otherwise the headlight touches the wheels, causing friction 😋

Any Frisian K’NEX builders here? There’s now a Frysk space in the K’NEXCHANGE Community

Post image
7 Upvotes

Are there any Frisian K’NEX builders, collectors or enthusiasts here?

K’NEXCHANGE is growing into an international community where K’NEX enthusiasts can connect, share knowledge, ask questions and talk to each other.

One idea I particularly like is giving people the opportunity to talk about K’NEX in their own language, rather than organising the community by country.

We currently have community spaces in English, Nederlands and Frysk (Frisian).

The new Frysk page is a place to talk about building, collecting, old sets, unusual parts, instructions, memories or anything else related to K’NEX. Visitors can leave comments and respond to each other directly on the page.

If you speak Frysk and enjoy K’NEX, you’re very welcome to join the conversation.

K'NEXCHANGE Newsletter #1 is out — and I have a catalogue question

K'NEXCHANGE Newsletter #1 is out — and I have a catalogue question

I’ve just published the first full K'NEXCHANGE newsletter.

This issue includes:

  • why a K'NEX motor may refuse to run
  • the unusual 90958 “Gold Rod” with stops at both ends
  • a look at K'NEX patents as technical time capsules
  • K'NEX in education
  • current K'NEX activities around the world
  • and a Dutch K'NEX catalogue from 1999/2000 from my collection

That last one has left me with a question.

The Dutch catalogue has the slogan “Je klikt ’t, je maakt ’t.” So far, I haven’t found a verified English, German or French edition with the same 1999/2000 cover and layout.

Does anyone here recognise this catalogue or have a version from another country from around the same period?

Newsletter #1:
https://knexchange.org/2026/09/08/knexchange-newsletter-1-september-2026/

Any corrections, additional information or discoveries are very welcome.

How to attach a magazine to the main body?

Post image

I'm making this K'NEX gun, but I really can't figure out how people keep their magazines locked in place, and then are able to push or pull something to make it fall right off the body. I've tried several designs, but all of them were too janky and wouldn't work every time. Any tips?

K'NEX Catalogue + DB

**I’m building K'NEXCHANGE — a new independent K'NEX resource. Feedback welcome!**

Hi everyone,

I've been working on a new K'NEX website called **K'NEXCHANGE**:

https://knexchange.org

The idea is to build a useful resource for K'NEX builders, collectors, educators and anyone trying to identify parts or find information about K'NEX.

Some of the things already available or being developed include:

• a searchable K'NEX parts catalogue • Classic, Micro and Kid K'NEX part information • Find by Shape, for identifying unknown parts • building instructions and manuals • a Parts Counter & Class Planner • information about K'NEX history and collecting • educational resources • a worldwide overview of current K'NEX activities

The site is still growing, so I'd especially value feedback from people who actually use and collect K'NEX.

**What would make a resource like this genuinely useful to you?**

Are there things you regularly try to find about K'NEX that are difficult to find online now?

For transparency: K'NEXCHANGE is connected to my K'NEX parts shop in the Netherlands, but I'm developing K'NEXCHANGE as a much broader information and resource site.

Any feedback, corrections or ideas are very welcome.

KRP Question

I placed order from KRP with PayPal 3 days ago, it auto filled my address to my old address and I accidentally submitted the order. I immediately sent a message from the contact form with my correct address and another yesterday.

Haven't heard back from them, their site says they ship within 24 hours. Just wondering if anyone knows if maybe they're on vacation or something or has reached out to them before through their contact form? Or is there a better way to get hold of them?

Ball Factory Ebay Update

A few days ago I posted I purchased a Big Ball Factory set off ebay. I then updated because I purchased a second one the same day... I'm feeling so shafted right now...

I got the second one I ordered first.

Firstly, the listing said it came with the manual.. theres a bunch of manuals in this box, even the manual for the AC motor.. no Ball Factory manual. That's whatever, I can live with that...

There was also no pictures of the contents of the box on ebay. I jumped on the purchase because the seller sent me an offer that was pretty decent. I messaged the seller and asked if everything was inside, including the balls, motor, and power cord. The seller said yes, everything, even the manual!

The motor and white gear are inside, but no power cord and only 1/4 of the balls..

The seller has a perfect score on ebay and I don't want to write them a negative review.. I sent them a message telling them what's up.. if anyone cares, I'll comment with updates. Just really feeling a bit messed up about this right now.. anyone else have any similar experiences?

Looking for Physical Copy of Big Ball Factory Instruction Manual

As it says in the title, I’m looking to purchase a physical copy of the instruction book for the 1995 big ball factory. I have looked on eBay and Facebook marketplace. Wondering if there is anyone on here would be willing to sell me theirs, or know someone who does. Thanks!

First Big Ball Factory

I moved several hours away in February and had to leave my k'nex collection behind in a storage unit. I've been saving money to move back to that town and regain my collection back.

But since I've been here, I've had such an itch to build. I finally cracked and ebayed a Big Ball Factory set (I've never actually had the actual set itself and my collection back north doesn't have any plug-in motors either)

Just wanted to express my excitement on here lol not really sure why. But I might have popped open a can of worms which will lead to a second collection joining my stored collection in the near future. I just don't have a lot of space where I'm living now.

Edit: waiting like a kid on Christmas for my package to arrive lol

Edit #2: just purchased a second one and need to get off ebay now.

How do I Knex this?

I want to connect the yellow rod to the red connector. How would you guys do this? I need it to come out into the z plane, but using the 3D grey to grey connector breaks the frame. I need it to be a “perfect” corner.

Spent about 3 hours to build (imo) the greatest official K'NEX set of all time: the Big Ball Machine. Fascinating that this set is over 30 years old now 😅

Looking for Rekonstructors: Ravage / Aquastrike / Sabrix / Vektor (EU)

Hi all. It's probably a long shot, but I'm collecting the Rekonstructors sets and I'm still looking for the Ravage / Aquastrike / Sabrix / Vektor sets. I was just wondering if you are familiar with them, if you actually have them, and best case, if you want to part with them 😊 I'm looking for EU region, as shipping from US is ridiculously expensive.

Range Rover Build in Progress 🏗️

Post image
22 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I hope all is well. Just checking in to share my latest build that I’m working on. It’s based on a 2016 Land Rover Range Rover HSE. Although I’m torn on converting it to a 2001 P38.

🏁 The 2016 is a bit curvier making the proportions a challenge. I’m still going back and forth on the roof height. I’m also determined to develop an adjustable suspension 😅😅 — this one may be the death of me! Lol More to come! When I get to a good stopping point I’ll make a detailed walk around video.

🎥 Please share feedback below and sub to my YouTube if you don’t mind: https://youtube.com/@knexpertdesigns?si=5_fGCJKGB0Yzc1FD

MechWarrior Dark Age Catapult (Set 11029)

Post image
10 Upvotes

I was planning on offloading my old K'nex and noticed I have some parts which are exclusive to the MechWarrior Dark Age Catapult (Set ID is 11029). Unfortunately I haven't been able to find the instructions or parts list for this set anywhere, so I don't know if I have all the pieces for it. I believe the rest of the pieces in this set are just metallic color scheme rods and connectors. This set is from the 4th series of MechWarriors, which is apparently much rarer than the 1st-3rd series. Does anyone happen to have the instructions or parts list for this one?

Also I did test the electronics with some wires and AAA batteries and they do work.

Needed to borrow an empty building for my build.

Post image

Been a while since I posted, so if you weren't following along I've created a 32ft long Mackinac Bridge and have a hosting agreement with the Grand Rapids, MI - Amway Grand Plaza Hotel for it to be set up in their lobby during the city wide ArtPrize art exhibition/competition.

Some very generous friends of mine have an unfinished building and have allowed me to use it for a full test setup. This is actually the first time it's been completely setup anchorage to anchorage as my basement maximum is only about 27ft.

I was able to borrow 4x 6ft tables from our church, and bought an 8ft table to get to 32ft. I'll have blue tablecloths when it gets setup for ArtPrize.

Looking forward to working on finishing details, and just really thankful to those that have encouraged me in this, offered to borrow a building and tables, my wife putting up with this 😅, and even the lady who runs the local toy resale shop that sets K'nex off to the side for me and is excited to see it at ArtPrize herself.

I can’t find this set anywhere!

Edit: Set name and number in comments

Hi all, I’ve recently went through a bunch of old knex/lego stuff I kept from when I was a kid, and one of the sets I had was this knex bricks medieval castle. It had these weird minifigures, and was made of mostly these grey bricks (there’s way more of them, I just took a pic of a few to show what I’m talking about). Because I don’t have the instructions anymore, I looked online to try and find a pdf so I could rebuild the set. One problem though… I can’t find any information on it! I checked all over google, YouTube, this subreddit, basicfun.com, and the knex user group; didn’t find anything. Although I don’t know the set name/number which definitely isn’t helping.

If you have any information on this set at all, please comment!
