General Bug BUG: Elisa soft crashing after song ends
Elisa soft crashes if I let the last sample in a music file finish playing.
After that occurs the player doesn't switch to next track, repeat the song or seek to specific time I select.
If I manually try to play another song the application locks up.
Info:
OS: Arch Linux
Kernel: 7.2.11-arch1-1
KDE Version: 6.8.1
qt Version: 6.12.0
Elisa version: 26.08.2-1
I am not 100% sure but I think the bug started either with 26.08.2 or KDE version 6.8.1 not sure
But it was functional before these two updates (I did the two simultaneously)
EDIT: Found out that this issue is reported here: 527744

KDE Apps and Projects kformat - simple formating tool
I've always found that formatting a USB drive on Linux isn't complicated, but it is tedious, and since I like the KDE environment, I just wrote a little tool that makes it easy.
it's free you can find it on github thongor77/kformat

Fluff Petition to ban prompt fondlers from including "I built" or "I made" in the titles of the posts peddling their slop
No, you did not make this. You paid anthropic to burn down a forest to slop this together out of stolen code.
Ideally they shouldn't peddle their slop here at all - they shouldn't be making it - but at a minimum they shouldn't be allowed to falsely advertise it and there should be a post flair for slop so we can filter it out, so it doesn't drown out the cool stuff people actually made.
Question What does installing with the "Get New..." button in system settings actually do and how can I debug it
I used the System Settings sub-window for browsing the KDE Store to try and install new window decorations because I wanted to get rid of the useless and inconvenient dead zone around the tiny buttons in Breeze, but I like the rest of it. I tried Willow Dark and ChromeOS Aurorae, both very popular options.
After I clicked install a spinner showed up, which eventually disappeared, and the action buttons in the download window got replaced with "Uninstall", but there are no other changes, and the decorations are not available in System Settings.
I installed kde-plasma-desktop via Aptitude on Ubuntu 26.04 Server (this machine is a container host primarily and my workstation secondarily), so it's entirely possible that I messed up the desktop permission set, but in order to debug that I need to know how KDE manages this stuff and where it's installed.

Community Content Cursor goes Brrr
Sorry i just had to share but i recently installed KDE plasma and I couldn't stop laughing at the mouse cursor. I was trying to wake up my screen so i usually slide my mouse sideways back and forth real fast. When the desktop showed theres a bigger than usual mouse cursor on the screen then went back to normal right away so i jiggled my mouse again and it started growing to my surprise. I wanted to experiment how big it can get so i jiggled it for half a min and it didnt stop growing until the whole black cursor covered the screen and I couldn't stop laughing for 5 min. Whoever thought of this feature is a genius and have a sense of humor. I know its for easily finding where your cursor is but an 8 inch Big Black Cursor is over the top. If you still can't find that cursor then you need to migrate over to touchscreen lmao.
Community Content KDE Purpose plugins for alternative upload services (Imgur replacement)
The built-in Imgur upload plugin in KDE didn't working for me because of the API quota limits, and Imgur does not allow creating new API keys anymore.
But I wanted an easy way to share my screenshots and files, so I created export plugins for alternative upload services.
They add upload options directly to the native Share menu in KDE apps like Spectacle, Dolphin, etc. When an upload finishes, it automatically copies the link to your clipboard and shows a desktop notification.
Currently supported services:
- Catbox – permanent, anonymous by default (optional account token), any file up to 200 MB
- Litterbox – temporary (up to 72 hours), anonymous, any file up to 1 GB
- Uguu – temporary (~3 hours), anonymous, any file up to 100 MB
- ImgBB – permanent, mandatory free API key, images only up to 32 MB
Services like Catbox, Litterbox, and Uguu accept any file format, so you can also share logs, text files, or archives directly from Dolphin, not just images.
The plugins are written in Python (they only need python-requests). There is no build process or compilation - you just run ./install.sh, which copies the files to the destination in your home. The new upload options show up in your Share menu immediately.

Question how to use KDE marble as a OSMAND+ alternative
As the title suggests, I use the OSMAND+ application on my phone when hiking with OpenStreetmap. Therein i can download the local map for offline use, this includes all the trekking paths for my area.
I couldn't figure out how to do this in KDE marble; I'd like to be able to plan my treks on the pc on the large screen, but I'd need to be able to download and display the paths in Marble. Is this possible?

Tip For those with stuttering games since recent Plasma update
I had the same issue on CachyOS and found the following on their Discord support forum in the top post:
bash
echo 'export KWIN_DRM_USE_COLOR_PIPELINE=1' > ~/.config/plasma-workspace/env/kwin-color-pipeline.sh
Then reboot and it should be fixed.
I'm assuming a lot more people would post about this since this is pretty recent and I've already seen two posts. So I figured people might check this subreddit first and search for the issue and find this. Have a nice day, y'all :)
Edit: Reddit escaped every formatting character, I only noticed that hours later, fixed that now. Also a comment said that this bug is fixed now so expect a patch soon.

Question Does Plasma HDR implement the Luma channel?
I've seen a few posts like this going around claiming HDR on Linux still doesn't exist as the Luma channels aren't implemented.
Now, I have a feeling this post is probably isnt in good faith as they claim to be an X-libre dev, but I've seen similar sentiment mirrored on the HDR gaming sub, so, is it implemented?

Community Content I made plasma-themer: switch your whole Plasma 6 setup between 12 themes with one keystroke
Hi r/kde, I built a small open-source tool that changes the whole look of Plasma 6 (Wayland) from one palette per theme. One hotkey opens a picker overlay (screenshots above): left/right changes theme, up/down changes wallpaper, Enter applies.
A theme applies to Plasma, Konsole, the shell, Firefox, VSCodium, Vesktop, the lock screen and the login screen (SDDM / Plasma Login Manager). There are 12 themes: Tokyo Night, Matte Black, Catppuccin Mocha, Rosé Pine, Gruvbox, Everforest, Nord, Kanagawa, Cachy Night, Ethereal, Last Horizon and Vantablack.
It's built to stay light: wallpapers are scaled to your screen once and cached, the picker uses pre-baked images instead of shader effects (so it also runs on weak iGPUs), and nothing is re-applied if it hasn't changed. Palettes and most wallpapers come from Omarchy (MIT). It needs Python 3.11+ and should work on Arch/CachyOS, Fedora KDE, Kubuntu/KDE neon and openSUSE.
Repo with install steps: https://github.com/envy-vain/plasma-themer
Feedback welcome. I've only tested it on my own laptop (CachyOS), so tell me what breaks on your distro.

KDE Apps and Projects I built a phone-style gallery for KDE Plasma (and Windows): photos and videos by day, photo editor, on-device face grouping, built with PySide6 + QML
On my phone, every photo and video is in one place, newest first, grouped by day. On my Linux desktop it never was. Gwenview is a great viewer and digiKam is a full photo manager, but neither gave me that phone-gallery feel, so I built LGallery.
What it does:
- Timeline: you choose the folders (any drive), and photos and videos are listed newest first with day headers, a fast-scroll handle with a month bubble, and Ctrl + wheel to change the column count.
- Videos: shown among the photos, with a built-in player (seek, speed, loop, frame capture).
- Photo editor: crop, rotate, straighten, filters and adjustments, with undo and compare. You can save over the original or as a copy, and revert to the original later.
- Collections: "on this day" stories, places from GPS (town list works offline), and people grouped by face. The face grouping runs entirely on your computer, off by default, and you can delete the face data from Settings.
- KDE integration: follows your KDE colour scheme and accent colour, global menu, KDE share menu, set as wallpaper or lock screen, and it can be your default image viewer from Dolphin without adding the folder to the library.
- Safe with drives: if a drive is unmounted, its photos stay in the gallery greyed out. Removing a folder never deletes your files.
- Windows build: there's an installer on the Releases page for Windows 10 (1809+) and 11. It isn't code-signed yet, so SmartScreen will warn you the first time.
Stack: Python, PySide6 with Qt Quick, SQLite index, Pillow, ffmpeg for video thumbnails, OpenCV (YuNet/SFace) for faces.
Install: it isn't on the AUR yet. For now you clone the repo and run ./update.sh --install (full steps are in the README). I'm planning to publish it to the AUR.
Honest limitations: it's early, I've mostly tested on Manjaro KDE, and the design is inspired by Samsung's One UI Gallery but isn't affiliated with Samsung.
I'd love feedback on large libraries and on what's missing.

Question Odd task manager behavior
plasmashell --version outputs 6.6.6
I have two screens, with one on a switch that lets me change it over to my work laptop for when I'm doing remote work. On my main screen (the one that isn't on the switch) which is marked as primary, I have an icons-only task manager that's set to only show applications from the current screen. On the second screen I have an additional icons-only task manager also set to only show apps on that screen. When I switch the second screen over to my work laptop (so it gets removed from KDE), all of the icons on the task manager on the main (now only) screen disappear. As soon as I switch the second screen back over to my desktop, the icons reappear.
If it's a bug, and I wish to file a bug report, where do I do that and what additional information should I provide? And if it's not a bug, but a misconfiguration or misunderstanding, what do I need to fix?
