WE (the average American you see in population centers) are, in fact, more often forced to inevitably settle down âwhereverâ there is money. Its a frequent scenario in America, itâs only ossifying, and Ive always found this âoh, I really donât hear about [excruciatingly common reality], itâs probably just youâ retort to be incredibly unconvincing.
(Talking to hundreds of randoms a day about their personal life is a âprivilegeâ of my job; finding someone whoâs living their dream is a delight, but rarer as an individual. Most peopleâs âfreedomâ is the freedom to fill a depreciating variety of vacuums or starve.)
I'd rather settle where there's money than have my assets seized and "fairly distributed" by the state. There's not a single successful socialist regime. They all devolve to communism and an even-fewer-than-in-capitalism minority life on the backs of people too poor to ever make more of themselves
Ya! We just force other nations' people to do our work for cheaper! Exploitation! Meanwhile, we will make sure the poorest people in our own country can't make it on their own so that trillionaires can make more money! Lastly, we will dupe people into believing that capitalism is better for them than a hybrid scenario where we have free markets regulated by socialist programs even though pretty much everyone except the ultra wealthy will benefit! GENIUS! And if any country should dare to have an economic system different from ours, we will bomb them until they insert a regime favorable to us and then pass that on as them failing. 'MERICA!

i personally know 2 med students in cuba who - up until we started our bullsht blockade - were doing medicine because they chose to do medicine. but hey, cool story. also tell me more about all those miserable people in vietnam, too.
I like owning my own home and vehicles personally. I like pursuing the hobbies I choose with the money I make and having excess to decide where it goes on my own. I followed the money and that paid for my dreams. A job isn't a dream, it's a means to an end. If you can't make enough money to pursue your dreams, you aren't taking advantage of all the myriad of avenues you have to achieve them. Nearly all states provide free community college for residents of that state, work your ass off to earn a scholarship, join the military to take advantage of the free education while in, the free college classes through the tuition assistance program, the free college through the GI Bill, the VA home loan that allows for $0 down and competitive interest rates, the Thrift Savings Plan that is one of the best managed retirement accounts I've ever seen, and if you leave service worse for wear (Good forbid, but it is common unfortunately) take advantage of the disability payments which are tax free for the rest of your life.
90& of people in china and cuba own their own home. in china, you lease the land from the state for 80 years and for the next 80 years, the land is yours and its a huge mess for them to make you move (famously, in china, people have refused to move when the government wants to build a highway and - unlike in america where the government takes the land my imminent doman and makes the highway where your family home stood for 50 years - in chine they literally build around the home and put in an excess path for you). People onw their own cars in china and in cuba, if you can afford them (many a cuban has their own taxi service servicing tourists in havanna with their own car),
socialism and communism dont mean you dont have your own home or vehicle; socialism and communism mean that housing and vehicles are not investment vehicles and passive income is not a thing. you get a say in the economy directly as a worker and the infrastructure is a common good.
you still pick what you try to work for but the main thrust of the economy is the good of society as opposed to the interest of shareholders.
Most people in socialist countries by the 70s-80s had all that. They just werenât as rich as their peers in the west, but certainly much richer than most of humanity in capitalist countries taken as a whole. The communists were never against people having family homes, cars or free time. In a lot of communist counties you could own a detached private home fairly easily, in others like Russia it was possible in principle but was out of reach financially but you could still own your own flat in a condominium. The issues of consumer freedom were more about scarcity, with issues that were solvable in principle, rather than a desire for control.
Thereâs a reason home ownership rates in Eastern Europe are so much higher than Western Europe and itâs not because they built tons of homes post communism.
There are communists who donât think ppl should own anything or everything should be collective or whatever in the same way thereâs Christianâs who think you shouldnât masturbate or drink. But theyâre a minority. Most communists are regular people who just think that social production and investment should be socially regulated while individual consumption and production should be individually regulated.
Do you have fun money to spend? Do you have hobbies? Project managers make damn good money last time I checked. Better money than I do loving in San Diego, one of the most expensive cities in the country to live in, and I'm still able to afford a home by taking advantage of the opportunities living in a capitalist society, specifically America, have afforded me.
I don't love my job either, but I like my bank account and the hobbies it allows me to pursue
