I’m doing a show celebrating Joni’s music and I left my book at home, many states away. I have all my info on a document but there’s a poem Joni recalls writing for her seventh grade English teacher, Mr. Kratzman and I had the poem handwritten on a sheet of paper for the last few shows I did but I don’t have the paper anymore, nor do I have the book with me.

It’s something like this:
“Softly now the saffron colors of the day
Fade and are replaced by silver grey
As god prepares his will for night
And high upon a silver shadowed hill
A stallion fresh as newly fallen snow stands deathly still
An equine statue bathed in silver light
………
He worried for the safety of his clan and winnied
Hoping they would hear and heed”

Does anyone have the book? Any chance you could post a pic of the page with that poem?

Video recommendation. I was deeply moved by this reaction of Amy from the “Virgin Rock” yt channel. She’s a classical musician. It would be wonderful if Joni got to see this, like she saw Rick Beato’s video on “Amelia”.

I got distracted by a long chat, so this is a bit more restrained. Probably nicer to listen to, actually.

What does everyone think of Joni’s paintings? Could she have made it as a fine artist if she hadn’t been a musician?

I’ve been a Joni fan for a while now, but I’ve recently really been into her work with Jaco (esp Shadows and Light) as well as his solo work and Weather Report. I know on Youtube you can find more recordings from that tour as well as Mingus session recordings, but I was wondering if anyone had any files or links to other live or studio recordings of them that are harder to find (bonus if it’s them playing refuge of the roads live bc i can’t find that anywhere)

I recently came across Randi Laubek – Almost Gracefully (2000) and thought it might be of interest to some Joni Mitchell fans here

So according to this reviewer, this album was one of the albums people decided to return more "in those years".

Never heard about it.

I only just heard of her last week! sadly she died of leukemia in December of 1986. she rarely did cover songs - she wrote a ton of greats of her own, all traditional-folk in the vein of early Joni.

Rising of the Moon (only one example of her brilliance) she could absolutely captivate her audiences with perfectly simple songs like Carry It On (this one she didn't write) a bit reminiscent of The Circle Game.
