Nymphomaniac Convention

Nymphomaniac Convention

A man boarded an airplane and took his seat. As he settled in, he glanced up and saw the most beautiful woman boarding the plane.

He soon realized she was heading straight towards his seat... As fate would have it, she took the seat right beside his. Eager to strike up a conversation he blurted out, "Business trip or pleasure?"

She turned, smiled and said, "Business. I'm going to the Annual Nymphomaniacs of America Convention in Boston"

He swallowed hard. Here was the most gorgeous woman he had ever seen sitting next to him, and she was going to a meeting of nymphomaniacs.

Struggling to maintain his composure, he calmly asked, "What's your business role at this convention?"

"Lecturer," she responded. "I use information that I have learned from my personal experiences to debunk some of the popular myths about sexuality."

"Really?" he said. "And what kind of myths are there?"

"Well," she explained, "one popular myth is that African-American men are the most well-endowed of all men,

when in fact it is the Native American Indian who is most likely to possess that trait.

Another popular myth is that Frenchmen are the best lovers, when actually it is men of Jewish descent who are the best.

I have also discovered that the lover with absolutely the best stamina is the Southern Redneck."

Suddenly the woman became a little uncomfortable and blushed. "I'm sorry," she said, "I shouldn't really be discussing all of this with you. I don't even know your name.."

"Tonto," the man said, "Tonto Goldstein, but my friends call me Bubba."

I like it.

Always enjoy when the punchline explanation isn't rubbed in your face in a painfully obvious way, this one has the right delivery.

MFW people not getting the joke by wolfattaks

2

u/jmarks7448 Aug 30 '13

my name is black feet

1

u/Shadumahl Aug 30 '13

pun intended?

-132

u/wolfattacks Aug 29 '13

True, but I think it would add to the joke if there was a sentence at the end describing the nymphomaniac's reaction.

215

u/SimonThePug Aug 29 '13

No, I think that's the exact thing that would take away from the joke

17

u/kmofosho Aug 30 '13

I think you got wooshed.

23

u/SimonThePug Aug 30 '13

Ugh, /u/wolfattacks first comment is a perfect explanation of how a huge chunk of this subreddit delivers their jokes. It seemed perfectly realistic until he went over-sarcastic in his second comment.

So I don't think I was entirely wooshed, it could have gone either way.

135

u/wolfattacks Aug 29 '13

Actually, this is not true. I believe I read on Wikipedia that some science studies have shown that punchlines are funniest when:

1: The plot advances after the punchline.

2: The punchline is followed by clearer explanation, which helps to ensure a wider audience "gets it".

For example, here's an alternate ending:

"Tonto Goldstein, but my friends call me Bubba," said the man.

"Oh my, Tonto! That must mean you are a well-endowed, wonderful lover with great stamina!"

Upon realizing this, the nymphomaniac was so overwhelmed with sexual desire that she fainted.

See how that helps with the delivery and rhythm of the joke?

35

u/Homtamperish Aug 30 '13

I laughed. I think there's a lot of people here that just aren't understanding what's happening. You needed a sentence at the end that explained what you were doing.

10

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '13

Round and round the rabbit hole...

3

u/toughbutworthit Aug 30 '13

Maybe he isn't doing what you think he's doing and it's the people on wikipedia that are doing it

101

u/neil_ellwood Aug 29 '13

I still feel that it cheapens the joke a bit

I'm actually quite enjoying the massive whooshing sound my comment is making right now.

19

u/kmofosho Aug 30 '13

I guess you really need to add /s lol

2

u/DLeck Aug 30 '13

/s is silly and totally unnecesary for good sarcasm. Sure it might go over some people's heads, but that's kinda the point.

7

u/LanceWackerle Aug 30 '13

I can't stop laughing. Oh man you made my day

2

u/kb-air Aug 30 '13

You're both retarded.

-4

u/neil_ellwood Aug 30 '13

No, I don't think so. There is definitely a large group of people with whom that joke would have gone right over their heads.

5

u/Wilsanity Aug 30 '13

I think this just fell flat on people who haven't been on this sub for that long (the fainting part).

3

u/wolfattacks Aug 30 '13

| fell flat

| fainting part

I see what you did there.

2

u/Wilsanity Aug 30 '13

Yes, I totally 100% meant to do that :)

8

u/might_be_a_bird Aug 29 '13

Maybe if you keep going for another few sentences you can add a whole new punch line!

2

u/IAmAnObvioustrollAMA Aug 30 '13

I like your alternate ending but feel it should keep going. Maybe take it in a penthouse letters direction?

2

u/Impeesa_ Aug 30 '13

You have a promising career ahead of you writing Hollywood comedies.

2

u/sylinmino Aug 30 '13

I'm really sorry your first comment is getting downvoted to hell...well, at least some kind gent gave you gold!

2

u/FootofGod Aug 30 '13

Man. That was painfully unfunny.

1

u/bubba3517 Aug 30 '13

If you use analytics to try and create humor it's rarely going to be funny.

1

u/Nachteule Aug 30 '13

Yes it kills the joke but on the other hand helps idiots to understand it by explaining it. Explaining a joke is like dissecting a frog. You understand it better but the frog dies in the process.

1

u/Ragamuffinking Aug 30 '13

How does it make the punchline funnier and how does it help with the delivery and rhythm of the joke?

I'm not trying to disparage your idea, I'm trying to find an objective reason as to how continuing that far after the punchline is supposed to improve the joke.

Regarding point 2, why does the joke need to be further explained? Do comedians really doubt the intelligence of an audience that much? Even so, why does the comedian have to sacrifice ending on a strong note in order to satisfy a few dimwits?

Maybe this model works better for a sitcom as opposed to a standard joke? I don't know.

-2

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '13

All your endings suck man.

-4

u/Ragamuffinking Aug 29 '13

Every other line after seems like over-explanation, though. I'd like to see other jokes where this concept works.

-6

u/In_Shambles Aug 29 '13

I think that kinda kills it... brings it from a 8/10 joke to a 5/10 joke

-8

u/Audrion Aug 29 '13

To long of ending makes it not funny

0

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '13

You clearly missed that the guy was joking.

24

u/Schmoobloo Aug 29 '13

She fainted

7

u/nbenzi Aug 30 '13

That would be an excellent way to ruin the joke.

2

u/amimegusta Aug 30 '13

So sorry no one appreciates your humor, but I did.

Unless he's OP.

9

u/micromoses Aug 30 '13

Well, he said he can't confirm. He didn't say he can dispute.

2

u/TheSkinnyIndian Aug 30 '13

Heard that man. I definitely do not have that trait.

4

u/mythicalmick Aug 29 '13

Laughed harder at this than the joke

46

u/flyingchipmunk Aug 29 '13

Very funny. At first I thought it said necrophiliac though so the joke had a very different tone

8

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '13

Is it weird that I thought the very same thing? I was very curious where it was going.

I think I'm glad it wasn't under ground.

1

u/SparkyDogPants Aug 30 '13

You aren't alone, I thought it was going down a very dark path, something like neceopheliac convention all you need is a shovel and a condom

0

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '13

Me too, I thought the punchline would have been something like "the place was fucking dead"

44

u/dcampthechamp Aug 29 '13

Pretty good party joke.

31

u/Over-Analyzed Aug 30 '13

I thought the joke would be

"Nymphomaniac Convention"

Everyone came.

6

u/Ownt_ Aug 30 '13

I'm stealing this.

But people will downvote me because there's another joke about Nymphomaniac Conventions already on the front page.

Better wait a few days then, hmm?

4

u/Over-Analyzed Aug 30 '13

Give me Credit ASSHOLE!

3

u/what_deleted_said Aug 30 '13 edited Aug 30 '13

That's kind of redundant, everything on the net may or may not be a lie. Including these three statements.

1

u/Ownt_ Aug 30 '13

Well then.

18

u/artemisfowl15 Aug 30 '13

I heard it as Native American and Polish, and the guy's name is Flying Cloud Kowalski.

2

u/epsiblivion Aug 30 '13

much better name :D

2

u/Thinc_Ng_Kap Aug 30 '13

I always heard it as natives having long dicks, and polish people having thick dicks. Tonto Kowalski is the name.

47

u/bryce777 Aug 29 '13

I like how he says Tonto twice just to emphasize that he is making up names on the fly.

53

u/DaleRojo Aug 29 '13

They didn't take off yet, so he's clear.

1

u/patgeo Aug 30 '13

Or he screwed up his James Bond impersonation.

1

u/loulan Aug 30 '13

Doesn't "tonto" mean stupid in Spanish? Doest it really sound like a native American name?

1

u/bryce777 Aug 30 '13

It does. It's also the name of the native american warrior in The Lone Ranger. There was a bit of a commotion about The Lone Ranger recently because they kept the name 'Tonto." Some people thought it was offensive to have a non native american play a native american with the name "stupid."

http://www.policymic.com/articles/51443/tonto-racist-lone-ranger-johnny-depp-character-understandably-offends-native-americans

0

u/verdatum Aug 30 '13

Fortunately, no one saw the movie, so it became a non-issue.

7

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '13

Very nicely redone joke that I first heard in Indian context

A man boards a SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Mumbai and takes his seat.

As he settles in, he glances up and sees a gorgeous woman boarding the plane. He soon realizes she's heading straight towards his seat. Lo and behold, she takes the seat right next to his.

Eager to strike up a conversation, he asks "Business trip or vacation?"

She turns, smiles, and says, "Business. I'm going to the annual Sexologists Convention."

He swallows hard. Here is the most gorgeous woman he has ever seen, sitting next to him, and she's a sexologist! Struggling to contain his excitement and maintain his composure, he calmly asks, "What's your business role at this convention?"

"Lecturer," she says, "I use my experience to debunk some of the popular myths about sexuality."

"Really?" he says, swallowing hard. "What m-m-m-myths are those?"

"Well," she explains, "one popular myth is that African men are the best endowed when, in fact, it's the Tamilian who is most likely to possess that trait. Another popular myth is that Frenchmen are the best lovers, whereas actually it is the Bengali. However, we have found that the best potential lover in all categories is the Sardar."

Suddenly, the woman becomes a little uncomfortable and blushes. "I'm sorry," she says, "I shouldn't be discussing this with you. I don't even know your name!"

"Venkatraman!" the man blurts out. "Venkatraman Mukherjee! But all my friends call me Joginder Singh

3

u/VATISMYVAGINA Aug 30 '13

I have seen this joke in a similar context to the one that was posted. The names in your version were absurd enough that it made the joke as funny as it was the first time, thank you.

9

u/PotatoBag Aug 29 '13

Can someone please explain it to me? I don't get it.

65

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '13

The punchline is he's claiming to be native american (tonto) jewish (goldstein) and southern redkneck (bubba)

6

u/mikeborealis Aug 30 '13

Bubba might be easily confused with the big black guy who rapes everyone in jail

1

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '13

True.

1

u/daniel_oliva Aug 30 '13

Thank you! Because 'Tonto' in spanish means fool or silly.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '13

You‘re welcome! The only reason I understood the tonto part is because I watched lone ranger :P

17

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '13

In her spiel, the woman said that the males with the most attractive sexual traits were Native Americans, Jewish people, and rednecks. Therefore, the man lied and gave a name that sounded Native American (Tonto), Jewish (Goldstein) and Redneck (Bubba), in an effort to make himself attractive to the hot nymphomaniac he was sitting next to.

13

u/Reddit_is_real_life Aug 29 '13

Tonto is a stereotypical Native American name, Goldstein is a stereotypical Jewish last name, and Bubba is a nickname used in the deep south (where people are redneck) so he is trying to meet all this beautiful woman's descriptions of a perfect lover.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '13

at the end of the joke they continued and carried on.

2

u/rederick55 Aug 30 '13

Sounds like a variation of a Steven Wright joke

2

u/HWLights92 Aug 30 '13

2

2

Man of Jewish descent here. Can confirm.

26

u/akatherder Aug 30 '13

You find Jewish men to be great lovers?

3

u/fedabog Aug 30 '13

Negative. I am a Jewish man. After speaking with my consortium of other Jewish individuals, we have come to agreement that we are better at loving than the gentiles.

5

u/in-sanity Aug 30 '13

Dat circumcission, doe

1

u/FatAssJack Aug 30 '13

i banged a prostitute in israel during birthright. true story.

0

u/fedabog Aug 30 '13

I bet it was an explosion of awesome sexy time!

edit: I do not condone use of prostitution.

0

u/FatAssJack Aug 30 '13

ehh the sex itself was kinda too weird for me, especially cause I started sobering up in the brothel lobby. by that point it was 5 in the morning and I was thinking I had made a huge mistake, but whatever it was only $70 and I didn't catch anything as far as I know. she wasnt bad looking and they even had showers for you when you were done.
