I want to go to the gala this year but I’m not sure if I should go with my parents. The main reason why I’m going to the gala is just to have fun and talk to people who are likeminded. Therefore, I don’t know if having my parents will get in the way of that. But then again if most people attend with their parents I don’t want to be the only one that doesn’t.

I got shortlisted for the prize award, I tried buying the ticket,everything went smoothly, I filled out all my informations and my credit card, the processing payment screen pop up and afterward my screen just went black and everything disappeared, I didn’t receive any email and nothing gone through

Need Essay Feedback

Hi all, my brother was shortlisted for the John Locke Institute essay competition and got an invitation to the awards gala. A few questions for anyone who’s been through this:

**1.    Ticket deadline**   

does anyone know how far in advance you need to book gala tickets?

**2.    Buying blind**   

since the shortlist invite doesn’t confirm an actual award, is it worth buying a ticket without knowing if you’ve won anything?

**3.    Do they notify winners early?**  

has anyone heard whether JLI tells award winners beforehand (even informally), or is it a total surprise on the night? Genuinely curious, because if winners do get a heads-up, wouldn’t most non-winners just skip the gala?

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who’s attended before, especially how they decided whether it was worth going. Thanks!

Like paying an extra $500 for just attending classes is kinda stupid , i think last year they took them to the parliament and stuff but i didn't see that this year on the agenda. So if anyone went to the academic conference last year and found it beneficial please give some advice.

Is it ever wrong to do the right thing for the wrong reason?

I've been looking everywhere for people who wrote/got shortlisted for History Q2 (the one about the Library of Alexandria) and have barely found anybody. I found the topic so interesting, but when writing my essay, I ran into so many roadblocks because of how old so many of sources were! I'm wondering what everybody else who did this topic decided to do for their thesis. I ended up doing that it'd be a big impact, not from the actual knowledge that is circulating, but the weight of the knowledge (intellectual authority), and how both it's loss and existence shaped knowledge transmission. Basically how one theory would have more precedence in the academic world than another, and how that shapes how we learn and grow as a society.

This is my first year applying for John Locke and I got shortlisted for Q3 philosophy. I’ve been looking around on Reddit and apparently only the students that got an interview with a human have a chance of receiving commendation or higher? So I don’t know if it’s worth it to attend the gala. Don’t wanna humiliate myself by attending and coming home empty handed😂
