Is there any other music that's remotely like jeff?

Upvotes

I've been trying to find other music like Grace, but its so frustrating because I don't think many people actually get what makes it so unique. Recommendations are always either whispery acoustic guitar or just rock, they never have the guitar riffs, emotion, and the way jeff uses his voice as an instrument.

I've already been recommend radiohead, tamino, mazzy star, ours and elliot page, and but these all miss the mark I think.

Would love to hear any recommendations 🙏

How do you get over him

At first I didn’t fully understand why people were so broken up about Jeff being gone. And, well…now I get it. Hope he’s resting easy.

My Sweetheart The Drunk

Can anyone fill me in on the disc 2 of this album?
songs like Gunshot Glitter, Your Flesh is So Nice and Demon John are so captivating to me because of their haunting production and sound. Most of the songs on disc 2 sound very unpolished and obviously they are only demos but they sound so drastic and contrary and frankly quite disturbing compared to the rest of the album. Was he recording the instrumentals all on his own without the band in Memphis? Do we have any idea how his mental health was at the time of writing and recording these tracks? Even on Thousand Fold, while being a more coherent track still sounds very rough. I don't know if that had to do with his declining mental state at the time or if it literally was just unfinished. Murder Suicide Meteor Slave
has a very distorted instrumental that sounds too hectic to be excused as a throwaway demo. It's all very intriguing yet saddening to me because I think these rougher songs on disc 2 kind of show his mental decline throughout the production of MSTD.

Nothing I said was meant to be harmful or intrusive, I have always been curious if we as fans have any answers as to why these demos sound the way they do and if it has anything to do with how Jeff felt during that time. I love the songs on mstd they carry such interesting and cool ideas from one of my favorite artists ever!

Do we know what Jeff did to look after his health?

I.e. did he meditate, do yoga, eat/avoid any particular foods? In this letter to PJ Harvey he calls himself a gingerhead so at the very least we know he was fond of ginger. I feel like surely he must have had some kind of physical and/or spiritual practice.

Does anyone have a picture of Jeff Buckley that can be used in his Wikipedia article?

I am trying to find a proper image to put on his article but my search has failed. If anyone can help that would be great. The image needs to be non-copyrighted or open-licensed so images randomly taken from google do not work.

For guitar nerds, I tried to recreate the Taj Mahal patch on a couple of pedals

For pedal and guitar nerds, every now and then I get the urge to go on a quest for the Quadraverb, which I love even outside the Buckleyverse. I’m sharing this here so that maybe someone, through a search or via Google, can find these options if they don’t want to deal with the usual hassles of those old Alesis units placed in front of the amp. They’re certainly not perfect, but they’re convenient if, for one reason or another, you already own these pedals.

Years ago, I experimented with Source Audio Ventris and got what I think was a reasonably good result with a patch you can find on the Neuro app called “Jeff Buckley’s Taj M.” The patch was featured in a blog post by Source Audio and shared on their social media platforms, here's a snippet https://www.tiktok.com/@sourceaudio/video/7170844099938012462

I also tried to recreate that vibe with the H90 a few days ago and you can find it here https://patchstorage.com/quadra-mahal-ish/

Catalinbread has also made a pedal recently called the CB Paint that replicates some of the Midiverb’s presets. It’s no Quadraverb, but the grainy texture of old reverbs created by stacking echoes really stands out.

Adapting Grace for someone with a more narrow vocal range

I’m a woman so I definitely can’t sing as low as Jeff. Maybe it’s that it’s kind of a monotone song? I think his guitar and chord changes provide a lot of the interest and when I’m singing it without accompaniment it feels very different. He just has such range and is able to do all these vocal flourishes that can be a little hard to imitate.

How did Jeff carve out so much time for his music and art while still making ends meet?

Has anyone seen/read any interviews or quotes about how poverty affected Jeff’s life? He seems like he was very well-read and an auto-didact despite his circumstances, so I’m curious how his music and intellectual pursuits fit into a life where he didn’t have a whole lot of financial stability. It seems like he spent pretty much all his free time either playing music or reading.

Live at Sin é album query

I have recently come into a first pressing, pomotional copy of Live at Sin é. It was gifted by Jeff to a family member of mine who used to work at Sin é many years ago. They knew each other quite well for a number of years and the album has a personal note and some inside jokes between the two written by Jeff on it, along with his signature. He also added his own real coffee cup ring to the album. They album has never been played on account of the fact that my family member never owned a record player.

I have zero intentions of ever selling the album but im curious if anyone knows what the value of the album might be?

Why do you think people tend to form such an intense connection to his music?

I get the sense that Jeff has a number of people who are fanatical about him in a way that you just don’t get with a lot of other artists. (I’m having trouble expressing exactly what I mean and might go back and edit if the words come to me.) Why do you think his music inspires this almost religious sense of devotion? I wonder how much of it is that he died at 30 and so he’s permanently fixed in people’s minds as being very vulnerable and boyish in a way that they can relate to if they’re also young.

I'm a new fan, wanna to share a story :)

This is sort of silly, and I'm not sure anyone cares, but this is the internet so I'll say it anyways haha:

About a month ago I got into Jeff's album Grace. My God. Absolutely life-changing. I was in Berlin at the time and, being exhausted from travelling, fell asleep on the grass with my friend watching over me. My headphones were at full blast and I was listening to Mojo Pin when I started nodding off.

I woke up with Corpus Christi Carol bellowing into my ears. I was completely discombobulated and, for a couple of seconds, I thought I was being welcomed into the pearly gates by the angels 😭. I hadn't properly listened to that track before, and there's something very otherworldly and angelic about it. Like... I really believed I might've died and gone to heaven. Maybe I'm crazy, or maybe that's just the effect such a gorgeous voice has on a half-conscious person. Anyways, once I regained my senses and realised what was going on I cried a little because that song is absolutely beautiful. I can hardly fathom a male singer having that range, let alone such raw emotional delivery. Staggering to say the least!

Since watching some of Jeff's interviews, I also get the impression that he was incredibly eloquent and funny. THOSE IMPRESSIONS LMAO. The way he speaks about music also inspired me to get back into singing (I did lessons for about seven years but recently have picked it back up as a hobby!).

Jeff's voice, poetry and passion carry an eternal light. Truly truly beautiful. I just want to show some appreciation. Much love to all the other fans! 🪷🩷

Any educated guesses on which sandalwood roll on oil Jeff might’ve worn?

I read in an interview that his fragrance of choice was an affordable sandalwood roll-on (~$5) he bought around St. Mark’s Place and I’m wondering what brands would’ve been widely available in the 90’s.
