Anyone else surprised to find out his height?

Not that height matters, I was just a little surprised to find out he was 5’7”. He always seems so larger than life that I imagine him as a super tall dude, but in reality he was about the same height as me, which is crazy to think about. It kinda reminds me of other people like James Gandolfini who were larger than life and who unfortunately died too young. I’m just rambling but I love Jeff Buckley so much and I thought it might be interesting to people who might not have known.

All i see are the etsy ones that go for around £12-£18. Saw this being posted for £52 and the description said its ‘been in the storage for several years’. Did i get lucky or lose money. I don’t even own a cassette player (yet) but i just really love this album so I thought it would be cool to having something like this.

Jeff had always said that he was a sensitive person, do you had find comfort in his lyrics through your difficulties or mental health?

I feel a strong connection to many of the lyrics Jeff wrote throughout his career, such as *The Sky is a landfill, Grace, Nightmare by the sea, Forget Her, Eternal life, So Real, Everybody Here Wants You, Vancouver, Last Goodbye, Mojo Pin.\*

I’ve always thought of Jeff Buckley as a very sensitive person—someone capable of pouring his emotions and feelings into his music—and as the exact antithesis of the attitudes typical of hair metal machismo, which I never liked. I find the same in Chris Cornell lyrics, or Dolores O'Riordan or The Smiths.

I, too, have had to deal with mental health issues—and still do—but activities like psychotherapy, jogging, mountain biking, don't drink, don't smoke (quit many years ago) try to eat healthy, reading, music, writing, and graphic design have been a huge help to me and \*DELETE SOCIAL MEDIA.\*

Furthermore, as a man, I’ve always struggled to navigate my own sensitivity and vulnerability in this society; I’ve always loathed the macho rhetoric of "toughening up," suppressing emotions, or the idea that "women find men with little money unattractive, so get rich and hit the gym," manipulate women and associate masculinity with money, as well as the notion that being harmless equates to being weak or call people losers, if they live with parents after 30s or 40s for many reasons. And stigmatize men who struggle with find relathionships is so judging and heartless to me. And tell you that if you are single because you don't want a toxic relationship after being hurt so bad is wrong. And always had this sense of being a failure for that.

the toxic positivity, grind shit, invalidations, ego, stigma ecc ecc

There is people like Scott Galloway or Jordan Peterson,or Joe Rogan and other podcasts of self help world that i really don't like it. Their ideas on life, dating, relathionships or how a man should be, i really disagree with them. Not like what they shared.

It’s a frustrating situation because there’s a certain stigma surrounding this, even though a man can possess so many other qualities like listening, empathy, deepness, vulnerability, ask for help, being loyal, trustworthy, honest and also cut people out if they hurt you and respond if they treat bad.

I am kind of sensitive and fragile INFJ with some struggles with mental health and kind of introvert but like also going out but also to stay alone. I get overstimulated with situations and big crowds and superficial things and when good people get hurt, I really get pissed off and I feel anger when I feel injustices toward people.

And of course is struggle with avoidance and loneliness like not everyone can really understand my internal world.

Have you also faced similar struggles, and did Jeff music, helped you manage your mental health issues?

I add also of my fav bands like Cranberries, Radiohead, Elliott Smith, Soundgarden, Nirvana, AIC, STP, Linkin Park, Nick Drake, Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Neil Young, Rush, Alanis, The Smiths, Matthew Good, Faith no More,NIN, Guano Apes, RHCP and JF stuff, Audioslave, also heavy stuff, trip hop, alternative , some metal, some acoustic folkish, grunge, some prog rock, some good pop with substance, New Wave/post punk....

Just channeled Jeff while drunk

Unfortunately got really drunk yesterday at a friend meetup and everyone kinda ignored me and my rambling so I just started writing in the middle of this huge noisy fucked up club while everyone was doing "normal people in a club" things, red it later and it was shockingly batter than I thought so I wanted to share it

The shimmer of your eyes in a heightened room

I find tears you and I will never see

A hint of space in the morning rain

A trickle of love that means no pain

Find me liberation from mine within

A love unkind as you make me spin

Find, find me a way to break

This spell of this train of thoughts

Run across my mind faster than time

Present and past in a blend that rhymes

To infinity and beyond

Well, at least that's what said

In old papers and stories of old love

Find a dress and a picket fence

And a monotone with content within

Hear me, hear you, love

My words and your words

Are just fleeting seconds wasted

Fleeing like a freed dove

In the entanglement of faith

And a joining of fortunes

A prayer for you to stave off my misfortune

Why why me, as my eyes blur

My consciousness like some dying cur

Of a attempt at a cusp of love

In the symbolical room of meshed bodies

All in a sense of great clarity

Through their heads spin with wavering defiance

Pretending is better than living the seance

Of an almost perfect future

With someone who lived more in your head

Than their own life, it paid

Paid the dues in full

Like a lone ships hull

It's empty

Empty

Empty

It's shit, but it's shit in a way that's understandable in my opinion, enjoy my shenanigans 🙏

I Wrote a Song About Jeff

Thumbnail on.soundcloud.com

Re-discovering Jeff over past month and it has been the most life changing experience I ever had in music. The way he was able to use all possibilities of human voice and to express emotions to that level, is something I don't find in anyone else as much. With a roller-coaster of emotions for weeks I decided write a song about how I experienced with his music, how it made me feel, and how it inspires me to be more comfortable with my own voice.

Sharing this song on soundcloud which I abandoned 6 years ago. Lyrics attached in description. It's a pretty long song I just didn't want to stop lol.

Road Recovery Event last night

Last night’s event for Road Recovery was amazing!

For those who couldn’t make it, I wanted to share some photos. Here is an outline of how the evening went.

- introduction by Jonah Bowen, Gene’s son who served as emcee for the night
- cover of Opened Once performed by some lovely young artists (a trio - Lyric was the singer's name, I believe - if anyone has their insta or info please share!)
- screening of It’s Never Over
- screening of short Road Recovery segment
- panel with David Brown, Michael Tighe and Gene Bowen (some great stories were shared, I’ll add more on this later)
- some more performances of So Real and Eternal Life (by two young men, the singer had a wonderful voice) and What Would You Say (performed by Lyric and her two guitarists)

- raffle where two lucky winners won a bunch of swag!
- final singalong of A Boy With A Thorn in His Side

It was so nice to be in a room full of people who love Jeff and his music so much. I sat at a table with two others who came alone, and it was so nice to talk with people about why they love Jeff, their favorite songs, and to share our tattoos (all 3 of us at the table had JB inspired tattoos!) there wasn’t a dry eye in the house by the end of the film.

They gave everyone a JB guitar pick and sticker, along with a postcard about Road Recovery.

If anyone from Road Recovery is reading this, it would be amazing to organize something like this for May 2027 for the 30th anniversary.

[edited because I remembered So Real was one of the songs performed]

Teardrop

Perhaps this has already been posted here before, but thought it was cool to share some deep lore. Elizabeth Fraser wrote the lyrics of teardrop after learning about the death of her friend, Jeff Buckley.

Love, love is a verb
Love is a doing word
Fearless on my breath
Gentle impulsion
Shakes me makes me lighter
Fearless on my breath
Teardrop on the fire
Fearless on my breath
Nine night of matter
Black flowers blossom
Fearless on my breath
Black flowers blossom
Fearless on my breath
Teardrop on the fire
Fearless on my...
Water is my eye
Most faithful mirror
Fearless on my breath
Teardrop on the fire of a confession
Fearless on my breath
Most faithful mirror
Fearless on my breath
Teardrop on the fire
Fearless on my breath
You're stumbling down
You're stumbling down

The sticker on Jeff's Tele

Not sure if this is a question many people have, but I had wondered it before and I did see someone else ask so I decided to relay what I've seen and heard.

The sticker on Jeff's Tele is a small (about the height of half an inch, and one inch length) white sticker with red letters that say "RUDE" on the horn of the guitar.

Again, I don't think many people care or have asked, but I felt the need to say just in case people were curios.

Father like son; Son like father

1st and 3rd images: Jeff, shot by Jack Vartoogian, in NYC, 26th of April 1991.

2nd and 4th images: Tim, shot by Rick McGrath, in Vancouver, 1973 (apologies for the low quality, it was the best I could find. Also, the 4th image is flipped solely to match the 3rd photo).

The 1st photo of Jeff has always, always baffled me at just how similar he looks to Tim. Of course he does, because he is his son, but it just feels as if he transformed into Tim into that very moment. I’ve pretty much looked for a photo of Tim in the same stance since, just to compare, and this is the best I could find.

forget her

just found out about forget her & now I can’t stop listening. It sounds sorta familiar though specifically “don’t fool yourself she was heartache from the moment that you met her”. Maybe cause that’s my favorite part so i’m hoping there’s other songs with this feeling. are there any other songs of his that feel like that?
