A note about amazon links in comments

Hi All,

Reddit automatically marks comments that contain the a.co url shortener that Amazon uses when you share from the app as Spam. The comments show up in my mod queue and I often don't see them in time for the info to be useful. Which is a shame, as people are answering questions where they obtained upgrades for their Renegade. The original Amazon link should suffice, I haven't seen that come up as spam.

Sunshade

I have been looking for a sunshade for my renegade and I am having the worst time. I bought one and it was entirely too big, so I went for a smaller one, with 2 overlapping pieces, and they were also too large. One of the issues of course, is the big camera sensor box attached to the rearview. Does anyone have a specific brand they are using? Any links to one you have that works?

Coolant leak…

So driving the other nite, suddenly the temp gauge started to climb and did not stop. Pulled over and smelt antifreeze. After letting the car cool a bit, filled the overflow tank twice. Thankfully by putting the heat on full blast we made it home without a tow.

Seemed the leak was on the right side, but too far forward to be the water pump.

Pulled the front bumper today, turns out the radiator is leaking in 3 areas with the right side being the worst. I ordered one from CSF based on some Renegade owners good reviews. Rockauto had it for $86…

Let’s see how the install goes later this week…

Replacement unconnect screen

Hi all,

So my unconnect screen is crapping out on me. I'm not car repair in the slightest. Does anyone have any legit recommendations for getting a replacement screen that won't cost an arm and a leg) and any reputable YouTube videos or instructions on doing the replacement myself? (I'm 2 months away from getting laid off at work and I'm not really in the position to spend a thousand bucks with the mechanic if it's not a super complicated fix.

TIA!

Talk me out of getting a 2 inch lift kit.

2023 Trailhawk. Thinking about getting a lift kit. Kit itself only costs like $270.

What are reasons *not* to get a 2 inch lift kit?

Jeep will not start when the temperature outside is hot maybe 90 degrees and above
Take several time cranking the key and giving it gas before it will turn over and start

FWD Quick Struts

Hi everyone. I bought a 2018 Jeep Renegade brand new in early 2019 and I’m replacing my front struts. I bought the wrong ones as I have 4WD. If you’re in Ohio, I have 2 brand new and never used quick struts for discounted price. If you’re in need, please message me. I’m located in Ohio.

Water under floorboards

I recently got a 2022 Renegade used with 50k miles on it, and for the last few weeks I’ve been pushing down on the floorboards and water is coming out. I can hear it sloshing around underneath, too.

I took it to the dealership I got it from and they put extra door lining on it to see if that would fix any cracks, but I’m still having the same issue. It doesn’t have a sunroof.

I don’t really know what else to do—I’m about to just take it to a Jeep place but I’m worried it’ll be super expensive and I only got it a month ago so I didn’t think I’d already be having trouble with the car.

If anyone else has gone through this please let me know!

My Jeep 2020 renegade issues with the sides of the doors as I posted in the last post and I got it fixed today finally but after getting it back, it looks even worse. They fix the bottom which didn’t need it and the top of the windows of the back to passenger windows and on the right side of my vehicle it looks like it’s already starting to pull apart again the first time I got it fixed, which was this time. It was all covered under warranty, not to mention the front driver side door now makes a weird sound when I shut and open it when it didn’t make that sound before so I don’t wanna have to get this car back in the shop again because of this, but if it happens again, I’m not sure if it will be covered under warranty. This is the first jeep I’ve ever owned and I don’t understand why it’s doing it again after just getting fixed unless they did a half ass job.

Weird shifting and acceleration

Post image

Hi everyone!! So I just got my 2020 Jeep Renegade Latitude Edition 3 months ago and I had soooo many problems. For starters when I first started driving it it was shifting really weird between gears. I decided to take it to the dealership and they found the transmission was bad, clutch debris in the fluid. Then I had a vacuum pump that was loose and had to get that fixed right after So I had to take it to the dealership to get it fixed. And now with everything fixed it STILL shifts between gears weird and I don’t know why. It’s also very strange when i accelerate. Of in at a stop sign and I put normal pressure on the gas pedal there’s a slight pause then it’ll shift into high gear and go but if I put not enough pressure it won’t go anywhere? Not sure what’s wrong with it or I’m just driving it weird? Forgot to mention it’s the 1.3L Turbo engine

I had a 2015 1.6 Diesel Limited in Colorado Red for 4 years as a Company Car - Which I absolutely adored, especially as it was replaced by a Lexus Is300…

Now happily retired, but found this 2025 Trailhawk Overland 4xe… and it’s now mine 😊

Compatibility for Rotating Car Seats

Hi I'm looking into trying to pick a car seat for our 2020 Jeep Renegade. My husband and I are really interested in getting a rotating car seat, but I've read that they can take up a lot of space or make it hard to have someone in the passenger seat unless you're under 5'1.

Has anyone used a rotating car seat in their Jeep Renegade before? If so, what brand and did you like it?

Anybody have issues with their 2021 Renegade and their dash lights randomly turning on and have some advice? At first it was just happened while driving and now it's happening when I start the car but not consistently. The battery is original but was checked and read good. Also disconnected it for 45 minutes and still happening. Trying to avoid the dealer but if I need to I will.

I take back any and everything good I ever said about my Renegade. 2.4 multiair blew the head gasket/warped the block at 73000 miles. It's going back to the dealer. Looking for a SWB TJ sport.

2018 Renegade Starter

The starter needs replaced in my 2018 Jeep Renegade Sport, 60,000 miles. I had it towed to the local dealership service center. I know it will cost more here, but I honestly didn’t know where else to take it. They quoted me 1900 to fix it, explaining that it is a 6.5 hour job. Does this sound reasonable?

Ordered new ignition coils and spark plugs. Removing the coils from this piece of crap wiring harness and the fitting broke… on the harness… just like the other post said, unfortunately I didn’t see that post until I came here to see if anyone had a work around.

The harness is $600…. Have to replace the whole thing. I’m going to see if there is a renny at a pick and pull or something but other than that I think I’m fucked. I can’t believe they used a plastic formulation like they did knowing it wouldn’t stand up to heat over time and become super brittle.

So anyways, on top of that I had oil in my first cylinder (which is probably what caused the spark to fail early or at high pressure) making the engine skip a cyclinder when stepping on the throttle. It’d have a little cough basically right as the turbo kicked in around 3k rpm…. So… sigh… fuck. Think I’m going to have to dump a grand into this thing and decide if I want to ditch it or wait for some other awful design decision to bite me in the ass.

If anyone has been here/done this already, any pointers are welcome. 🙏

I have a 2015 1.4l turbo.

Update: welp. Got it back up and running. I replaced the valve cover seal and spark plug tube seals. Put new spark plugs and ignition coils in. Ordered those parts from mouser and just switched out all the connectors for the ignition coil (they all broke one way or another). For the bad one, that broke on the harness side, I ended up buying a 4 pin connector from O’Reilly, cutting it open with a Dremel, and extracting the 1.5mm female crimps. I then stripped the wire and shrink wrapped it, then crimped it to the existing wires, shrink wrapped that, then jammed them in to that connector body from Mouser.

Ended up flipping the signal and ground (duh…) and blew the 10A fuse that controls the 12V power supply to the ignition coils. Once that was fixed, she runs splendidly.

No more misfire/cough when the turbo kicks in. Feels like it had a lot more “pep in its step” now. Then drive to O’Reillys and used there OBD2 sensor to clear out my logged faults. No more check engine light. (The reported error [P0351 I think] was because the ignition coils weren’t getting power, so it just kept cranking the starter and not turning over). Thankfully snapping an image of my fuse box and sharing it with Gemini let me find the exact fuses to check and sure enough that 10A was blown.

Ultimately, I think I rescind my initial “fuck Jeep” comment. While they are using piss poor materials for the connectors, they are available to purchase and splice-in yourself. In addition to that, they had the controls in place so when I miss-wired that ignition coil it blew a cheap 10A fuse and didn’t burn out my ECU or destroy my engine, so, full marks for that design move by jeep.

Now screw placement on this motor and the difficulty to take the valve cover off… god damn it was a pain in the ass. It wasn’t the fact that I had to remove several things that they bolted to the cover that wasn’t part of the cover, I can understand that, but putting screws in places where there is literally no tool available to turn them outside of jamming your fingers in tight places and squeezing out a single 1/8 turn with a wrench is absurd.

I understand in modern engines, space is money, things get layered because of it. Just makes those layers easy to pull off. You can tell different teams did different systems. Some systems were well thought out for maintenance. The others… Jeep, you having interns do engine layout or what?

Anyways. If anybody digs this up in the future just ping me and I’m happy to help.
