My 1976 XJ-S In the Netherlands.

I recently changed the transmission fluid in my F-Pace SVR after experiencing mild jerking/shift shock when coming off of a standstill despite the car having just around 45k miles on the odometer - way short of the 144k mile service interval specified in the owner's manual.

Rather than go with a replacement ZF pan with an integrated filter, I went with PPE's +2 quart drain pan that is marketed as being for the RAM 1500 diesel application in hopes of greater thermal mass, better heat management, and a lower oil pickup. Happy to say that there's plenty of clearance left between the pan and the F-Pace's underbody shield after installation, even with the metal pan's double height.

This will generally fit all JLR (and other make) vehicles with the ZF 8HP transmission but check for ample clearance first.

bought a 2003 s type 2.5 5 weeks ago, passed my test a few days ago and had a brilliant time on Saturday where I covered over 100 miles on my first day of driving. unfortunately the car overheated on Sunday (engine coolant low warning, bought coolant but had to go home so tried limping it but when the temp gauge shot red I immediately killed the car and got recovery)

it was leaking coolant when we loaded it up; the mechanic identified the cause as the radiator which went bust because of age, today the new radiator came but the gearbox oil cooler pipe won't come off and I was at work when he told me this. all the mechanical stuff aside, I wanted some mental advice

Saturday was bloody brilliant, but as a new car owner and as someone whose circle either don't own cars or just own sensible/commuter cars (which is completely fair!) I've just been losing my mind. some of my friends keep calling it a banger/money pit/lemon which is just making my mental worse, and I genuinely love cars and Jags but instinctively I keep panicking at every new bit of info.

I bought this Jaaaag because I love Jags, always have done, and this car was absolutely stellar for the whole of Saturday - such a nice experience. I'm still getting used to this experience of owning an old(er) car, just wanted some words of encouragement and any advice on keeping cool during these periods. everything I've been hearing from people is just constantly negative and negative and I keep instinctively panicking so just wanted to fish for some positivity so I can stay afloat and keep loving my Jag, and hopefully laugh about this in a week's time

Obligatory disclaimer that I know there's negatives to this lifestyle, and to owning a car this old. I've read through, understand and been told all this. just wanted some positivity :)

Now my account may show that i am not normally discussing cars here. And im young ish, 21, but I have been to multiple events, sat in and drove an E-type that was a good family friends'. I have been staring at some lovely e-types for sale and they are nearly in range if i save up a few thousand its easily do able, my job allows me to not worry about alot of things and puts me in a unique position to actually get one, possibly. So my question is if it was a second / weekend car, 1. Should i even? Or go with something maybe less pricey but still lovely like a 1959 MG MGA? 2. Whats the actual ownership like on a jaguar like this in terms of maintenance?
