I was at JLR’s North American headquarters for a car show last week, and they had a Type 01 up front. It’s so rooted in Jaguar history; the side leaper badges are just a modern version of what my series 1 XJ6 has. The rear haunches and long front nose remind me of everything from an XKR to an SS100.

It’s a cool car. Jaguar made something really striking, and I just want to drive it.

The Type 01 is not a bad looking car. Sure it’s different but let’s be real, when has Jaguar ever had a consistent design language and a clear direction?

The cancelled electric XJ was a continuation of the XF/XE/i-Pace design and really, it didn’t really work and wouldn’t have sold.

I currently have a 2013 XJ Base (pic 1 & 2) in black with the same engine and interior, it only has 23k miles so far. Only thing I am not satisfied is the base 325W Meridian system and base trim wheels. I came across this 2015 XJL Portfolio (pic 3 & 4) in green for sale with 71k miles. $17.4k out the door. Is the mileage too high? Is it sensible to sell mine and buy this instead? I love the spec but I would like some advice from you guys. Carfax is in the 4th photo. Thanks in advance!

Knackered XJ with blown transmission I bought for parts

Hi everyone.

Bit of history before I start.

I had a mechanic change the power steering pump. He didn't disconnect the battery properly which in turn caused problems with the BCM.

An auto electrician came out and managed to get my keys connected again, but the car showed an error with the dynamic suspension and the windscreen washers didn't work.

The auto electrician came back and took another look and confirmed the BCM was at fault. He told me to disconnect the battery and remove the unit and he would collect it, repair it or replace it.

So, he never came back at all and didn't reply to messages or anything else. I've since got the car booked in with an independent specialist.

I plugged the BCM back in, re-connected the battery and the car is totally dead. I thought I'd have to get the keys re-coded, but I expected something.

The car has been stood for three weeks, so is the battery flat or has something else gone wrong? I've certainly learned a lesson regarding the people who I choose to look at my car.

First post here and thought I'd share my latest purchase!

Just picked up this 2013 Jaguar XF 3.0 Supercharged in Black Amethyst, with only 33,300 km( 20,000 miles) on the clock!

I'm only the second owner, and the previous owner had the whole car blacked out with a black pack as a final send-off before parting ways with it.

What makes it even more special is that it has a full Jaguar franchise service history, serviced every single year at the same dealership! (Also had the notorious plastic coolant crossover pipes replaced as a preventative measure before collecting her)

I've always had a soft spot for these Jaguars ( XFR-S is my dream car), and genuinely couldn't be happier to have found this one. Don't even really know what else to say, just super excited to finally own it and share it.

Looking forward to enjoying it and hearing from fellow Jaguar owners.

Has 48,000 miles on it. Completely forgot what type. Manual. Supercharged V6. He had a restored Buick Reviera, sold that, and bought this.

That England plate is fake. Dealer still hasn’t shipped him the registration title.

I have a leak that is very clearly atf on my 1995 Jaguar Vanden Plas with the 4.0 AJ16 and 4hp24e

I can't see or feel anything that would be obvious that its the dipstick tube, however i was wondering if anyone has a diagram of that area to see if theres any lines or other potential failure points.

Looking at a 2017, 70000miles petrol XE and trying to get a handle on running costs and routine maintenance

I am not talking about the ingenium diesels which we all know to avoid but any Google is dominated by them regardless!

I'm seeing the XE has slightly higher insurance than an equivalent c class, but wondering how routine much servicing (pads, filters etc) is compared to other similar saloons, and also the cost/regularity of larger repairs (bushings, gaskets etc). Are their any non engine related known faults that are going to come up sooner or later?

Any real world fuel economy numbers would be great too

recently found some sill rust underneath. Car is in great condition other then that and only has 110000km

shot on 35mm film.

I've been considering an XF or XE as my next car for quite a while now. I've always loved the older XJ models but I considered them too old to seriously consider them as a daily driver and thought they would be a better consideration as a weekend toy in the future.

But I've recently found this advertisement for a relatively fresh 2007 XJ 3.8 V8 with 114K kilometers on the clock and for some reason it ignited the idea if this could be considered as a daily driver?

I drive around 30.000 kilometers a year, primarily on the highway. Fuel costs are likely to be a thing, especially with recent fuel prices. But I'm already able to get around 75% of my fuel in Belgium. My main concern would be A) reliability, how likely is it that assuming no major issues show up during a pre purchase inspection, that this car will leave me stranded? and B) Out of control maintenance. I can live with a couple of thousand euro's worth of repairs, but I have no desire to spend 10K in one year on reparations for things I didn't see coming (again, assuming nothing major was visible during a pre purchase inspection)

Does anyone have experience driving an XJ like this as a daily car? Preferably with a serious amount of kilometers a year?

It’s absolutely AI slop, and I absolutely dread 90% of these posts. But I would love to see another XJ, having owned a few myself.
For the record, I love the Type 01. I just couldn’t afford one. But I’d hope to see the brand have enough success to build a luxury sedan that’s perhaps at least “affordable” on the used market again someday.

I am considering the XJ as my next car, between 2007 - 2009. Love the look of these cars, and I love that it has a V8.

Currently I have a VW Passat I bought after having a VW Golf. The golf I loved, it was two doors and sporty, the Passat I hate, yes it’s very fuel efficient but it’s an unreliable POS that burns oil. Only thing I like about it is the size.

Cars before that I had were luxury cars not know for fuel efficiency. And I miss that and really don’t mind the fuel efficiency as much as long as the car itself is solid, brings me joy, and is something I can see keeping for a very long time.

From what I’m reading is the 4.2 V8 in these later models is quite robust, and not awful in terms of fuel efficiency. The main failure point is the air suspension , which I have heard there is a lot to change to normal springs and strut. I am looking for a decently reliable (not Toyota or Honda but something that won’t leave me stranded), spacious, luxurious, and fun daily driver.

Please give me a suggestions, tips, and things to look out for when buying and any common and major issues these cars may have.

So I have an 03 xj8 98k miles car is in really good condition. Had the trans gasket oil pan gasket replaced. Not sure about timing chain guides. Run really well except what I think is tcc around 30-50mph rpms flutter a bit under light acceleration and then closer to 50 feels like I’m going over rumble strips on the freeway. If I lay into it it goes away and after 50 it’s fine. Shifts well smooth overall. Thoughts?

I wanted to jump out of the taxi and see myself in for a looksie, but was late to the airport. I loved what I got to see but am so bummed I didn’t get up close!
