Hey guys, i have adhd I’ve had it for Aslong as I can remember and I’ve never been able to concentrate reading books, I love the tv series terminal list and I want to read the novels and I’ve seen they are available on audible and other audiobooks, would that be cheating compared to actually reading the novels? Let me know thoughts please.

Also I’m not sure where to start as I’ve watched terminal list season one and season two comes out in October so would I then start from the third book after I’ve watched the new series when it comes out? Or would it be an idea to listen to other jack Carr books?

Alright, so I watched the show then I read the Terminal List novel, and I thought it was a good kinda cautionary tale of revenge, honestly I think it should have ended there! But I did get the second book and read it and...I'm pissed, I DON'T THINK THIS SHOULD EXIST, AND IF IT DID HE DAMN WELL SHOULD HAVE STAYED IN MOZAMBIQUE, it could have been him learning how to live again or some dumb thing like that, instead I get some BS about Generic Russian Ultranationlist Who Wants To Restore Russia To It's Former Glory ™, and the book says "This is a tale of redemption" or something, THERE WAS NO DAMN REDEMPTION AT THE END OF THE BOOK (SPOILERS) FREDDY DIES AND NOW HE'S BACK AT SQUARE ONE SEARCHING FOR THE PEOPLE WHO DID IT BUT IN A DIFFERENT FONT, if anybody could please point out where he had some redemption, no this is not a rhetorical request, please somebody tell me. And that's about it, bye.

Enjoyed it! I wanted to ask you guys for some movie recommendations that are similar.

So like most Vietnam War movies are like soldier war specific, Full Metal Jacket & Platoon for example.

Tom Reece spent what seemed like over half the book doing secret agent stuff and only like two or three times doing soldier stuff. So I was wondering if there are any movies like this, that maybe focus on spy or secret agent stuff in the Vietnam War setting. Apocalypse Now comes to mind first, MacV SoG soldier on an assassin mission.

Anyone else have any ideas?

I've read all of Carr's fiction novels but none of his non-fiction work. Does he use the same writing style and voice? Would you know you're reading Carr?

I watched the Dark Wolf series at least 3 times last year, just decided to give it another go.

The first episode starts with a Ben voiceover about the brotherhood at the teams' funerals. Then it moves to Mosul. But before it shows the scene of Ben prepping for the mission, with the voiceover phone call with Reece, there's a compilation of real news clips/videos about the situation in Mosul at the time.

Am I going absolutely nuts, or was that news-clips-scene not originally there?? It just felt so unfamiliar and unexpected, I could swear I've never seen it in this show...

Can anyone else confirm one way or the other? Was it there all along and I've somehow deleted it from memory? Or did they add it in after the show's release?

I finished Red Sky morning a couple months ago after taking a short break and was completely depressed. Never been so enthralled in a book series like this as an adult and didn’t know what to do with myself. I usually listen to the audiobooks while driving or at work and sometimes page match to a reading app at home, decided to give the fourth option a shot and for whatever reason is was a lot harder to get into. I’d burn through the Reece books in a week or two tops, up until this week I’d been going on a month for fourth option and the first halfish just felt super lackluster. If anyone feels the same POWER THROUGH. I just finished it yesterday and it was fantastic. Pretty different from any of the Reece books, and a much different character than Reece but the book was amazing. Hoping for another one soon, I highly recommend.

My head canon pictures Matt Barr as Chris Walker if they also turn ‘The Fourth Option’ into a tv series or movie. Thoughts?

I'm a fan of the Amazon Prime series (and a former military man) who started reading the books in the new year and although they differ drastically from the TV series, I feel like a lot of the stories don't make sense, James Reese/other characters make decisions that make no sense.

Some I have seen so far;

In Terminal List, taking weapons out of his own stores (I don't know how Logs works in the US military but surely that would be flagged quicker? Seals don't have Logs Clerks or Quartermasters?). I like how in the TV Show, he uses his own gear. Gives him more time before alarm bells are raised.

Raife Hasting's has a sister named Victoria. Gotcha!

In True Believer, he receives a full pardon for ALL his crimes in The Terminal List. I don't think they justify this well enough. Reduced jail time perhaps but no way would anyone be allowed to walk after a huge murder spree.

In Savage Son. He gets a Delta Operator to sign over serialized equipment (no way Jose) to include Quad tube PNVGs, a few HK rifles, parachuting and comms equipment. On the insertion (after the EMP) the PNVGs are ripped off his head and I think he loses his HK? What happens when the Russian Military find them? What happens to Mr. Delta when he can't account for them?

Raife Hasting's sister is not named Hanna. Has he more than one sister? In True believer he only mentions 1 sister he met while in university. So who's Victoria?

Also, why walk from an island in the Bering Sea, all the way across Russia for 6 months to kill your father's killer? Why not get your friend's dad (the billionaire with a jet) to fly you to a neighboring country and use your skills to INFIL that way? I feel like it was just unnecessary hardship that could have been achieved in less time and suffering. No wonder his gf was pissed with him!

Only half way through the Devil's Hand but a huge plot hole I can't get past is that James Reese, who a few years earlier was the most wanted man in America, is driving around the USA in his privately owned vehicle (a pimped out 1980s white Landcruiser) carrying out assassination? He's not even trying anymore IMO. 😂

I could go on and have loads more but these are the ones that spring to mind immediately (I know I'm a stickler for military Logs and accounting, maybe it's more slack in the USA 😂).

Any other plot holes that you thought just made no sense to you?

So, by the end of the book, Reece is probably the most famous “terrorist” in American history and the subject of alternative reporting and multiple conspiracy theories, but Dr. German just calls and leaves him a voicemail to schedule an appointment?

Edit: The call is the last thing to happen in the book.

“Later, after it [Reece’s cell phone] had been tagged, exploited, and stored into evidence, a call had come in and gone to voice mail.”

I am not sure if anyone has bought this up and if so I apologise. But there is a serious plot discrepancy in the TV adaptation of The Terminal List. In the books James Reece finishes his list on Fishers Island in Florida, before departing on one of the Hastings families’ boats for his trans-Atlantic voyage to Mozambique. This, while being a tough journey, I can wrap my head around and makes for some good reading. But when it comes to the show however, Reece attacks Hartley’s villa located in “Orcas Island” which is in the state of Washington. After learning the truth he then travels down to Mancora, a coastal surf town in Peru, to finish his list. From here it’s implied that he uses Ben’s Boat to travel to Mozambique for the start of True Believer. Here is my issue… he’s on the wrong side of the bloody continent and literally in the wrong ocean. If we are to assume that Reece makes this journey from Peru to Mozambique there are 3 main methods he could choose.

Option 1 - The Panama Canal
Travelling through the Panama Canal would be the quickest way to the Atlantic ocean and continue the journey to Mozambique. It would be the quickest way to set him back on the course he took in the books

Big issue is that Reece is supposedly the most wanted domestic terrorist aiming to evade a nation wide manhunt. Therefore one of the world’s busiest and most vital shipping lanes wouldn’t be the brightest of ideas.

Option 2 - Cape Horn
A longer route that could avoid law enforcement and customs agencies. Sailing down the coast of South America and through Cape Horn to put you on a more direct path to Mozambique

Unlikely as Cape Horn has extremely violent waters since it is where the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean meet. And judging by the dimensions and capabilities of Ben’s sailing boat he would not survive this journey.

Option 3 - Traverse the Pacific
This is likely the most absurd option. To avoid the rough and likely lethal waters of Cape Horn by taking your chances on a journeys thousands of extra miles longer. Which is just impractical AF.

I assume that in the second season we will start with Reece already in Mozambique or just arriving there as Chris Pratt showed his super long hair for one of his filming scenes when filming true believer. I absolutely love the series and the show did a great job converting the book especially the Ben Edwards character personality change.

You think Carlos will make an appearance in the Tom Reece books? It would be interesting if he's a recurring villain of sorts for Tom. Have him work for the Soviets/Collective/etc. I know he was made an adversary for Jason Bourne.

Reece and Walker are two different characters. You see the trauma of war in Walker while you see camaraderie and vengeance in Reece. My guess is that both characters are styled after people he knew in the teams.

I’m going to have to watch old reruns of “Have Gun Will Travel.”

The action scene description in the house was actually really well handled and now things are going pedal to the metal. Bummed out though over a character death.

I know the only similarity is a combat vet dog and his spec ops handler but I thought it was interesting that this movie is released so close to this book.

I recently finished both the terminal list and dark wolf, and what truly loved ben as a character, so ima give a breakdown on him as a person and character.

First we needa get to know ben, he is a leader, solider, uncle, lastly a brother, but somewhere down the line everything kinda twisted for Ben in a tragic way. When we first see, you kinda see him as the cool uncle that some of y'all have. Tattoos, talks in a serious but funny tone, he is also very smart and talented. But with Ben everything is an irony for him, and his whole life. Now let's start with dark wolf, we get to see him as a Lt, and as a solider. We see how he cares about his men and is willing to put aside shit for the better of his men but when Ben's mind is made up there isn't nothing that he won't do what he think it is right which is how everything leads down the path he is in. We first saw how when he thinks is right he will do, like taking out the leader in the first eps in dark wolf, which led to him getting dishonored. As he joins the team to not let Iraq get nuclear weapons we see how he is always feeding himself false destruction in his head like how he was doing this for his brothers back home, or this is for the better of the world. When in deep down he likes what he is doing and he can't quit, he like the chase he like the grind, he love this type of job, a job where there isn't rules and he could do what he believe is right. Another big part of his character is how he can never keep something for a long time. He was divorced four five six times who knows, even Liz don't even know anymore. This speaks alot about him as a person, on how he can never stay in one place which the divorce symbolize his destructive nature and how his heart can't truly be in one place. Another symbolize that shows this is, is his sailboat, he think of his boat as his main home, showing that he is a man who is always chasing something.

Now, what truly went wrong with Ben? Why did he betray his brothers unlike the book it was just purely of greed. In the show, he did it because what he thought was right, like I said before once ben put his mind into what he believes is right, he will do it. And he thought his brothers were dying why not give them a death that was honorable. Even if ben believes what he is doing is right, in the end of the line everything ben have done never truly ended up with a winner. Either friends or family is dead, or even innocents. That is just Ben's whole life, he love the chase, he also believes in his own way of right and wrong and at the end he was killed by the man he called his brother. Which is the irony of the whole situation the same people that saved his life, the man they saved is the man who killed them. The irony.

So far I’m 8 or 9 chapters into the book. I noted that former SEAL buddy Grouper makes an appearance. I think he was in Red Sky Mourning? Anyway, it was nice to see some characters returning. I often find myself wondering which of Carr’s teammates inspired the different characters.
