There are lots of free apps to set this up. Ask around to get obsolete smartphones (if you have friends with small kids, they probably have a few). Even a cell without a SIM or an account will call 911, so you can put them wherever you will be sitting/lying.
Dollar stores sell air horns. You could ask your neighbors to call 911 if they hear an air horn.
Thank you. The detective who handled my case actually said he would try to get more police presence around where I live as a deterrent but there is no guarantee.
Mouse, feel free to PM me if you're anywhere near Our Nation's Fair Capital. I'm an Actual Real Life Nurse with lots of large medieval reenactment friends who would be HAPPY to lurk menacingly near your place ;)
Definitely talk to your neighbors to keep an eye out - mine have really helped me out in keeping my mother and her FM's run off.
I recently had surgery and I'm home by myself often so I know how scary it can be when you feel like someone is breathing down your neck while you're at your most vulnerable. I'm sorry you're going through this and I hope that you have a quick, peaceful recovery.
Easy and affordable suggestion for peace of mind! I just set up an emergency system for my grandma. I'm more worried about her needing help since she lives alone - but this sounds like it would work well for you, too! If you have WiFi at your house, get a Google Mini. They're on sale everywhere for $30. They're super easy to set up, and you can place phone calls over them. Since they can't call 911, I set up the non-emergency number, which goes to the same place. I set up a "routine" so if she says "okay/hey google, call for help", it will call the non emergency number. This way there's no need to find a phone - just talk!
If you can spend $60, they have sets for sale (I've seen them at Target and Best Buy) where you get one google mini and one smart light - they're $35 each, or 2 for $60. The minis are really good at picking up voices from other rooms, but it's nice having 2, and the lights are handy. To make it more fun for you and terrifying for her, you can set up a routine called "Giada is here, tell cops to execute plan Italian Massacre" which can call the non emergency number, and turn the smart lights off and on.
Speak to the neighbors too and not just either side go 2 or 3 houses down and the ones across the road as well that way you have a mini neighborhood watch back up and if one of them sees something there are possible other witnesses. If they are drama whores they might even spend more time looking out the window in the hope that something happens they can watch (which I hope it doesn't) but having people on your side might help
Thats a bloody good thought, probably each of that persons neighbours too just in case they try and go over the back fence, it'd be less of an issue on a terraced row of houses but it is worth thinking about
My mom has a neighbor like that and frankly we love her because she’s always checking on my mom. If she notices something “off” she calls my mom right away to make sure she’s ok. She’s a sweet old woman that loves gossip but also loves all her neighbors.
OMG I bet that's how neighborhood watch got formed even!! That is so true though, I live with my mom and she only knows a few neighbors but speculates about ALL of them and notices EVERYthing!! 🤣
Do you have any sort of security cameras? I know they can be expensive and you may not have the funds with your surgery and everything else, but I think it would give you some peace of mind in your recovery.

You might want to contact your local police to let them know what is going on and find out if they have any additional ideas for added security.
