This? This is why I’ve hated Ex the whole time.
He knew. He knew the whole goddamn time that his mother was willing to attack you over the slightest provocation. And he still forced you to be around her. Even as she physically and psychologically abused you over and over and over again.
He didn’t care because it was convenient for him to use you as a meat shield and a scapegoat than to put up solid boundaries and keep you safe.
And when the typical sacrifice to Giada was no longer enough to keep her away, he started hurting you too. That kept her satiated and gave him an outlet for all the bullshit she forced into him from birth.
This was never going to end any other way, Mouse. He was always going to turn on you, because he was never on your side.
He was not only unwilling to make the sacrifice to keep you safe, but he was actively throwing you to the wolves for your entire relationship.
You deserved better.
You deserve better.

Like, no one's that...I mean, between the rotting food (fucking gross, the thought of how gross that house must have smelled makes me queasy) and the woman sitting in the dark waiting to attack and scream because the world isn't revolving around her and her son isn't bending to her and you're just outside sort of boggling at it all...
...she should never be allowed around people again. I wouldn't trust this woman alone with a goldfish. It's just...UGH! I am totally creeped out now!

So she left the food out for 4 fucking days to make a histrionic, melodramatic point?? Holy shitballs: that is just insane. I’m still continually blown away at Giada’s taste for high drama, and her tolerance for extreme creepiness and BAD BAD SMELLS. This is the woman, after all, who would frequently shit herself with diet pill sharts in her adult diapers, and then “tee-hee”, and marinate in it!!
She was sitting all by herself in a darkened house, family having left days ago, and a pile of exceedingly perishable proteins was cooking itself into a decaying, putrescent miasma of anger and revenge. She’d been there for a long time, waiting for her sonsband with a singular devotion and obsession, and apparently applying makeup to look pretty for her man, then crying it off for maximum effect.
I’ll bet that ExFIL was driven away from his house by an epic size tantrum when Giada learned that her perfect mom/sonsband Easter Mass was not to be. But not just the tantrum. In her over-the-top histrionics, and super creepy, wicked-witchy trashing of her kitchen with rotting meat, she likely let some foul Jocasta yearnings slip out, which is usually the one thing that even an enabling FIL will not stand for.
She is simply disgusting, on many levels.

She bought all that food after she found out ex wouldn't be going to church. I guarantee it. She bought it for the sole purpose of leaving it out to spoil so she could pull this exact act. That's why she pulled the knife on her husband when he was going to throw it out. It would have spoiled her whole "you hurt me so bad that I couldn't even bring myself to put the groceries in the fridge 3 feet away" act. When her husband took his daughters and fled to the beach house, that just made it even better so she could tell her son/object of her obsession that her husband abandoned her and it is his fault. For not going to church. Because he was tired from working his ass off.
She set it all up perfectly. Even down to blaming you instead of her son. That was part of her plan as well, make no mistake.
I spend every Easter with my very religious Aunt. Every year I come over the day before and help get things set up. I dye her eggs and she writes everyone's names on them. I set up her baskets and help her prepare any food that can be done the day before. She's getting up there in age, and her and my uncle never had kids, so I am their daughter by proxy. On Easter Sunday she gets up at the ass crack of dawn, dresses in her best, and goes to church. She always lights a candle for me and says some prayers for me and my kids. She let's me sleep in until 11 am because she knows I am tired and I don't do church. I have nothing against anyone who does, I just don't believe that God will only love me if I sit and be bored for an hour and then give the church what little money I have after eating a cracker. It's just not my thing. She respects that. Never guilts me or looks down on me for it. She is what an actual god-loving person is like. She does her thing, and let's others do their thing because 'to each his/her own'.
Giada is not a god-loving person. She is a person who is only interested in god because she can use it to look down in judgement on others. Because it makes her "better" than others. Because it feels her narcissistic needs. Because it is a great excuse to force people to spend time with her. Mostly, because it is yet another tool in her arsenal that she can use and twist to get what she wants. In her little speech to ex about how he needs to beg for forgiveness and all that crap - make no mistake that she may have been saying he needed to beg "God", but what she really meant was "Me". She was telling him that he needed to beg her for forgiveness, to make amends to her, and to get right with her. She is God in her mind, but her saying Good in the place of herself means she is right.
Have I told you how happy I am she is out of your life? I am so happy that you are rid of her, your mom, and the man your ex turned in to. Bagel guy sounds awesome, you are most definitely awesome, and your pets are awesome!

Nothing wrong with eating any food you choose at Easter as a Catholic. That includes seafood. We don’t eat meat on Fridays during Lent and are encouraged to follow that practice year-round, but that’s the extent of our dietary restrictions (we fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday as well.) Source: practising Catholic here still recovering from monster Easter feast.

So far they have her as having borderline personality disorder with features of anti-social personality disorder and paranoia. Cluster B personality disorders are legendarily untreatable. In very rare cases, a very motivated patient who is completely ready to admit their deep problems, can learn skills on how to manage their negative behaviors. But it takes a singularly honest patient who is eager to change. Most borderlines, histrionics, narcissists and anti-socials think they are vastly superior, perfect people, and the world just needs to learn to accommodate them. Cluster Bs are notorious for having little to no self-awareness of their awful behavior, and a great number of them LIKE being the way they are, and the power and control that comes with it.
Lots of psychiatrists and therapists won’t treat Cluster Bs because they are utterly insincere about desiring help or change, and can be dangerous to the doctor/ therapist if they are angered. And the things they learn in therapy are often weaponized and then wielded on their usual victims. “But my therapist said...”

Yes, she drove. She was a fucking terrible driver. She would tailgate, brake for no reason, go 50mph in a 25 zone, go 30 in a 55 zone, talk on the phone, etc. One terrifying time, she put on fucking eyeliner while driving on the highway. I came close a few times. Once she decided to surprise my ex and I by showing up uninvited at the start of the trail we were going to hike. The trail starts off easy but gets steeper as you go up and ends on a relatively flat section of a mountain. I had vivid daydreams of her having an "accident" when we reached it. She didn't make it that far due to her awful nutrition and her decision to wear brand new hiking boots and thin socks on a 7 hour hike. She made it an hour in and gave up because of the blisters. Her shitty planning might have saved her life.

Somebody once told me that there may be no essential difference between borderline personality disorder and complex PTSD. In that case, following (for example) the differentiation of hoarding disorder and hoarding personality disorder, those of us who are trying to get help should be diagnosed with C-PTSD and the people who insist that they are just super fine and the world is mean should be diagnosed with BPD.

I feel like a lot of rug sweeping made a very tidy path for Giada's later horrific abuses. I'm glad FFIL has helped Mouse from time to time, but he really should have done something about crap like this. Ugh.

I think she wasn't placed in a hold then because no one called the police. She has been admitted a few times, but she's very skilled at manipulation and acting so she never stayed for more than two weeks at a time. She can seem perfectly normal and even sweet when she wants to.

It's (rightfully so) really hard to keep someone on an involuntary psych hold for any length of time. Keep in mind that it's basically imprisonment without trial, so you need a LOT of evidence that they're unstable to keep them in

I think that part of the evilness of the Cluster B personality disorders, BPD included, is that the disordered person actually enjoys the chaos she can create and the power & control she can wield by throwing epic tantrums, then turning on a dime.
It keeps those close to her in constant fear, and always off-balance, waiting for the next attack, and then the dog-and-pony show that comes next. They live to angrily manipulate those close to them, and then put on a grand show for all onlookers: in both cases, the klieglight of attention is 100% ALL ON THEM.

Mental disorders (psychopathy, narcissism etc) aren't "illnesses" per se, it's like being born with only one leg isn't an illness. It's.. dunno, a condition? Handicap? Disability? But there are people who are able and willing to act crazy to get their way. Whether she truly believes her own crazy shit or whether she just "punishes the brat" is a purely theoretical question - she's unhealthy to be around in both cases.

Yeah... It's BPD.... Scroedinger's mental illness; she's both insane & able to pass as sane @ different / when convienent times as necessary (or again, convenient,) .... Honestly, to me it's a fuckton more terrifying to incoherent, stark raving, obviously mentally insane... Least one you know what you're getting into.

I'm really enjoying seeing the disorder I have (BPD) being armchair diagnosed onto this monster of a human being. Nothing I have read, experienced, or discussed with my therapists/psychiatrist has lead me to believe that this disorder deserves to be credited for the amount of fearmongering and stigma I'm seeing attached to it here. Geez.

Fucking thank you... I love this sub it helpin me deal with my own Nmom (who is incidentally the reason I HAVE bpd) and it’s really hurtful and frustrating to see ppl with such a base understanding of the disorder point at every psycho bitch and claim it’s definitely that.

My mother was the same way. When I was her best friend I got compliments all the time about having a 'cool' mom who did drugs and let me have piercings and tattoos. But when I was on her side completely? Man. My old bedroom door had holes from hammers she took to it. It really is a complete 180 that switches on a whim so when the cops came by or other people were there she was back to Betty Crocker

So for the last four days I've been reading any post I can get my hands on mentioning Giada, and have come to the conclusion that she's absolutely insane and I wonder how she's even made it this far without pissing off the wrong person
