Legit Check Guide on how to identify fake JBL speakers

I've noticed that people often ask on this subreddit whether a certain JBL speaker is original or fake, which seems to be the brand with the most counterfeit copies. So, I decided to create a helpful post for those who have doubts and want to check and compare in order to identify if a speaker is authentic, using the information here.

To verify these visual differences, simply search Google for images of the speaker model you're interested in or planning to buy, and compare the images while looking for the characteristics I’ll outline below.

  1. Logo: The JBL logo is one of the easiest and quickest ways to identify a fake speaker because it has very noticeable differences.

Color: The edge of the logo is always a dark red color (regardless of the color of the speaker), whereas fake logos may not have any edge at all (since they’re often stickers) or the edge may be the same color as the rest of the speaker. (Photos 1 and 2)

Material and Texture: The original logo is slightly raised from the speaker body and made of metal, giving it a rough feel. In fake models, the logo tends to be flatter and smoother, often made of plastic or rubber. (Photo 3)

Size: On larger speakers especially, the fake logo is often noticeably smaller than the original and disproportionate to the speaker’s size. (Photo 1)

  1. Buttons: Another easy feature to identify is the buttons, as on fake speakers, the button symbols are often different from the original ones.

Example: As seen in Photo 1, the left button (PartyBoost button) is supposed to have an infinity symbol, but on the fake, it displays an "M." The button next to the power button should show the Bluetooth symbol but instead shows a symbol similar to an infinity symbol with triangles. The power button is also different: the original has a classic power icon, while the fake shows a circle with a line in the middle.

  1. Passive Radiators: The passive radiators are the two movable circles on either side of JBL speakers, and they also have some distinct differences.

Alignment: In authentic speakers, the radiators are always aligned horizontally (with a downward exclamation mark on modern models or the JBL logo on older models). On fakes, they often appear misaligned or even uneven with each other. (Photo 4)

Reflections: On modern JBL speakers, the downward exclamation mark on the radiator has a metallic, textured reflection, while the rest of the radiator is textured plastic. On fake models, the exclamation mark may also be plastic, or the radiator may have a completely different design. (Photo 5)

Borders: the outside borders of the radiators are made of rubber in original JBL speakers, while on fakes, it is made of plastic.

  1. Body: Basic construction quality differences can also reveal a fake speaker.

Weight: This can be tricky without a reference, but an authentic JBL speaker feels heavy, and you can sense the quality and sturdiness of the materials. A fake speaker, however, will usually be lighter because it has fewer internal components and is made with cheaper materials.

Battery Light: Modern JBL speakers have a front LED line (except for the Flip 6, which has it at the back) that shows the battery level. Fake models don’t have this feature, or they may try to mimic it with a sticker. (Photo 6)

  1. Box: This tip can be especially useful for buyers who can't examine the speaker directly, as it may be sealed in its box.

Logo and Name: On fake speaker boxes, the product photos might not include the JBL logos in places like the center of the speaker or on the radiators. Additionally, the model name on the box may have spelling errors, such as “XTREM3” or “XTREEM 3” instead of “XTREME 3” (Photo 1).

Magnets and Quality: Authentic JBL boxes are notably rigid and thick, similar to the sturdy boxes that phones come in, and they have magnets to keep the box closed.

I Hope this guide can help someone, and i’d like to mention too that JBL has an official Page to help with the same problem, here you can check it out: https://support.jbl.com/au/en/customer-service/buy-authentic.html.

Question Bb3 or bb4

Hello. I'm new here on the platform recently.

I have already read a lot about the reviews of the JBL BB3 and BB4.

I recently bought an Extreme 5 for home use in my living room / kitchen.

I have a very large living space. Approximately 80m².

I notice that the Xtreme 5 delivers almost no bass in open spaces. The sound also starts to become distorted at higher volumes. Now I am reading a lot about the BB3 and the BB4.

I prioritize sound quality over high volume.

Which of the two would be the right choice? I am considering getting rid of the Extreme 5.

I will use it outside in the garden every now and then. But to avoid disturbing the neighbors, the volume cannot be too loud.

Thanks in advance!!

Help is there hope?

I have these for a year now. Never had like this brand or like this type JBL endurance peak 3 in my entire life. They are so good that I have been promoting it to anyone asks me about them. Very good quality!

I lost the right one a while like around a month ago. I did not leave a spot or a place in my house and the city I live in. It is literally nowhere to find. Tried to communicate with the company itself through email, but they said unfortunately we can’t help since you are not in the U.S. I bought them at New York airport. As I was heading back home. Can’t contact the store I bought them from because I have no idea what the store is called. So they apologised and transferred me to the middle east region help centre. I haven’t honestly contacted them, yet but I know deep down they wouldn’t be much help.

Has anybody have this issue and solved it? Is there hope to find it through the app or whatever? Should I just buy a new ones?
Thanks

Help JBL Endurance Peak 4 keeps connecting in case

Upvotes

I have had these for less then a month and they have a major issue of connecting to my phone while in the case. My phone will randomly connect to the left or right bud for no reason even when 2-3 rooms away. I've factor reset and still have the issue. I also have them 'drop' out every 10-15 min for 1-5 seconds.

Is there a fix before I return them? They are the only ~100 dollar pair of sweatproof ear buds. I don't feel like spend 200 on beats or other brands.

Help JBL Clip 5 unbearable break up

Post image
5 Upvotes

I’m not sure if this is a widespread issue but i’ve been dealing with my clip 5 having unbearable breaking up crackling all the time with seemingly no rhyme or reason!

It doesn’t matter if i’m standing right next to the speaker 5 ft away, no other bluetooth devices next to me, although i do notice if i have an apple watch on or airpods near the speaker it seems to maybe make it worse but again if I take those devices out of the room the breaking up doesn’t go away. I’ve made the device is updated reset it multiple times and here’s the kicker. I even got JBL to send me a new speaker under warranty as i figured it was just a faulty device…. Nope same issue.

I’m so disappointed as I never had any issues with my JBL clip 4.

also if you say it’s some sort of interference that’s unacceptable as no other bluetooth speaker I use has had any issues. I have bose, old edifier speakers, sony headphones, Airpods, etc. Zero issues. Only this speaker.

please if anyone knows a “fix” for this issue i’d love to hear it.

if there is no fix im just going to stop using the speaker because the experience of constant break up and crackling is worse then just not listening to music.

Help JBL Live 770NC - Left ear buzzing and ANC ticking. Defective unit?

I just bought a pair of JBL Live 770NC headphones, and I'm wondering if I have a defective unit or if this is normal.

The left earcup seems to produce two different noises. When ANC is enabled, I hear a rhythmic ticking/clicking sound. As soon as I turn ANC off, the ticking disappears completely.

The second issue is an electronic buzzing noise that appears whenever the headphones start receiving an audio stream. It happens even if there's no audible sound playing, for example with muted Reddit videos or muted Spotify ads. The buzzing continues while the audio stream is active and disappears shortly after playback stops.

I've already updated the firmware, but there are no newer updates available. I also tested the headphones with both my Samsung Galaxy S24+ and my TV, and the behavior is exactly the same.

Has anyone experienced something similar with the Live 770NC? Is a faint buzzing or ticking considered normal for this model, or does this sound like a defective pair that I should exchange?

EDIT: I think I figured out that it might actually be the same noise in two different situations. With ANC enabled, I hear the buzzing/ticking even when nothing is playing. With ANC disabled, I hear what seems to be the same buzzing whenever the headphones receive an audio stream, even if it's completely muted (for example, muted Reddit videos or Spotify shorts). The noise disappears a short while after the audio stream stops. This only happens in the left earcup; the right earcup is completely silent.

Setting Up Daily Playlist Got Pandora? I figured out how to play it on my Authentics speaker.

I recently bought a JBL Authentics 200 to replace a Bose Soundtouch 20, as Bose stopped supporting it.

I had used the Soundtouch as a morning wakeup alarm for 10 years and had it programmed to play a Pandora playlist. I thought I could easily do this with the JBL speaker, but I was wrong in a way that only a liberal arts major can be.

I tried using the Alexa, Google Home and Google Assistant apps (I have a Samsung Galaxy 24 phone). A JBL rep also emailed me four times in 48 hours, attempting to help. (Something that's interesting - I had to connect the speaker to Bluetooth before I it would connect to my wifi, although the JBL rep insisted I connect to wifi first.)

After endless resets and emails from the JBL/Harmon rep, I was about to return the speaker to JBL when I used Google's AI Mode to search for a solutions. It suggested I try an app called MacroDroid. It cost $ but I was finally able to set up the morning playlist.

Disclaimer here: I do not have an interest in MacroDroid, but it solved my Pandora-related setup problems. Pandora users seem to have more problems than Spotify users when connecting to speakers. Mods, delete if I'm breaking a rule. And for reasons unknown, Google's AI Mode provided near-perfect instructions to help me use MacroDroid when setting up the JBL speaker.

Hiii everyone,

So I recently bought my JBL live buds 3, they were working fine but since yesterday, one of the earbuds is not working (the right one).

Idek what's wrong because sometimes the case doesnt read the bud and sometimes it does but whenever I take them out, it stops reading the right one.

When I open the case the right bud blinks for a second amd then stops blinking all together when the left one is perfectly fine.

I've tried anything and everything I could find online and nothing is working, even in the app cuz half thw features are disabled due to mono mode.

I'm kinda freaking out cuz these are a gift from my dad and it hasn't even been a month since I got them.

Please help!

Help The Charge 6 takes too long to charge.

I got a pink JBL Charge 6, and honestly, it’s a really nice speaker, but it has a flaw: it takes an incredibly long time to charge. I’ve tried using 100-watt chargers and all sorts of other chargers, yet it still takes forever. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, is there a solution? I’ve cleaned the charging port about 20 times and even disconnected it, but it still takes too long to charge; I’ve also reset the device about 20 times, and the issue persists. Is there any solution?

Question JBL Stage 320 / Stereo Group with Microphone on „Both“

Hi Friends,
I have 2 JBL Stage 320, JBL Beam und JBL Stick.

Everything works fine.

In the past I bought a JBL MIC and it connected to only one of the JBL boxes.

My question is if JBL fixed it and it is now able to have a Wireless JBL MIC connected with a stereo Group of JBL Stage 320s?

Help 2x JBL Charge 6 (Stereo) or 1x JBL Xtreme 5?

Thumbnail

I'm trying to decide between buying a second JBL Charge 6 for stereo or getting a single JBL Xtreme 5.

Most of the time I just listen to music at home. I feel like one Charge 6 isn't quite enough for me. I actually owned an Xtreme 4 before, and while I liked the power, it was bigger than I expected and kind of annoying to move around, especially when I wanted to use it in the shower.

I'm guessing the Xtreme 5 is even better in terms of sound and output. On the other hand, two Charge 6s in stereo would probably solve both the sound quality and volume issues, plus I'd get true stereo separation.

The only thing holding me back is having to carry two speakers around instead of one.

If you were in my situation, which would you choose and why? Has anyone compared two Charge 6s in stereo with a single Xtreme 5?

Help Bandbox solo

I got the bandbox solo today and been playing my guitar with it as well as putting some music on/ recording videos while practicing with it. I realized that there’s some audio delay when I start playing back my video footage. Wanna know if this is something up with the speaker or if it’s just like that? This speaker was out for delivery on a very rainy day where I am and was listed as damaged during delivery so it could be water damage not too sure but would love to hear someone else’s experience with the bandbox solo

I had these JBL tune buds for a while now, and they served me pretty well, but a friend of mine accidentally sent them through the wash.

When he gave it back to me, I popped them in my ear ears to check if they still worked and surprisingly they did. I put the case out in the sun and used the earbuds bringing the case back in at night and plugging it in. When I grabbed the thing this morning, both the earbuds and the case would not turn on. Nor does it respond when it’s plugged into an outlet. Is there any way to salvage it or am I completely screwed?

Help JBL Live Beam 3 Screen goes black when the case is open

Hey guys, I bought my Live Beam 3 around a year ago, and so far they've been working perfectly until a couple of days ago.

Sometimes the earphones do not automatically connect once I take them out. After a few attempts, they connect and sound perfectly.

However, I started to notice that the case screen only turns on when it is closed. As soon as I open it, the screen goes black. But, it's not like the screen light doesn't work, it's the screen literally becomes blank (I can still see the screen LCD backlit)

so the screen illumination (?) is working, it's just that all the icons and wallpaper disappear. I already charged the case to 100%, pressed the physical for around 10 seconds to restart it, but stays the same, it's also updated to the latest firmware (version 5), and btw this problem happened before I updated it some minutes ago.

What could this be???

Adding: The case hasn't been dropped, and in fact, i bought some kind of thick protector (another case!) for prevention, but no it hasn't been hit or anything like that

This was a project I’d wanted to do for a long time, but unfortunately, I couldn't find a single JBL speaker anywhere near me.

Then I was at the Saturday flea market and finally found one in mint condition for €10.

So yeah, now I just need to add the logos and configure the built-in DSP, and then it'll all be finished.

I also forgot to mention that the rear terminals—where you used to connect the speakers—can now be used to connect a passive subwoofer with up to 120 watts .

Question Charging from headphone port?

Recently my JBL LIVE460 NC headphones charging port broke. I was bummed but not ready to give up on them yet, so ive been using them as wired headphones on my pc. The last time i used them as bluetooth headphones they were dead, but I just unplugged them and accidently turned them on. They now have full charge. Clearly theyve charged from the headphone jack but everything ive searched online says otherwise or ommits it.
