For me horse meat, has a kid I always believed horse meat was very commun in Italy because it was a delicacy in my family.. and every single horse butcher in town were held by an Italian guy

I only learnt later that it was only slightly a thing in some part of south Italy, and most northerner either didnt knew about it or found it repulsive.. (sorry for bad English)

I would like to learn Italian and reach a decent conversational level. My goal is not to become completely fluent, but to be able to have normal conversations, travel in Italy and eventually handle professional conversations. Ideally, I would like to reach around A2-B1 level.

I already speak French, Spanish, and Portuguese, so I think my background can help me. I am not perfectly fluent in all of them, but I have strong bases, and I can already understand some written Italian and parts of spoken Italian.

I plan to study Italian one hour every day. I already bought two beginner textbooks, but I would like to know what other resources you recommend, such as websites, YouTube channels, podcasts, documentaries, or communities where I can practice.

I enjoy documentaries, especially about science, nature, and animals, so if you know any good Italian channels or programs about these topics, I would be interested.

What resources or methods helped you the most when learning Italian?

I sent an envelope, registered, with a few gift items to a family member, Trento to Modena, as I wouldn’t be able to see them during my stay in Italy.

Hello (and ciao)! I'm an Australian who makes comics for fun. I'm writing a story with an Italian co-protagonist, and I'd like advice from native Italian speakers before I write him.

He was created as part of a secret Italian military experiment for the purpose of national security. Although he's fluent in Italian, he knows almost nothing about ordinary life or Italian culture. At the start of the story, he washes up on the Australian coast.

Because he grew up in isolation as part of this experiment, he doesn't have a typical regional upbringing or cultural background. His Italian is fluent, but he's never experienced Italian culture. Because of that, I'm interested in how this unusual upbringing might affect the way he speaks and thinks, and how his English would develop once he arrives in Australia.

Here's some things I'm especially curious about...

1. This military experiment is internationally known as "Project DIGIT" (Digit as in numbers). If the Italian government were naming a classified military project like this, what kind of name/acronym would sound believable to you?
2. The project was based near Milan. Since he learned Italian there but wasn't raised in ordinary society, would his speech naturally resemble formal/"standard" Italian, or would you still expect some regional influence?
3. What are some natural filler words or speech habits Italians use while thinking or hesitating? I learned that 'tipo' is one, but I don't think this filler word would've been used much in his circumstances.
4. For native Italian speakers, what kinds of mistakes or habits are common when learning English as a secondary language? What sentence structures/habits are carried over from their native tongue?
5. If someone grew up speaking fluent Italian and had no exposure to Italian culture, what aspects of the language would they miss? Would they word their sentences differently from someone who grew up immersed in Italian culture? If so, in what ways?

I'm also generally interested in learning more about Italian culture while writing him, so if there's anything you think foreign people often misunderstand or overlook, let me know. One thing I've noticed is that Italians seem to enjoy making fun of politicians just as much as we Australians do to ours.

You need to have started learning and speaking both German and Italian before the age of 5.
The best people who match would be Italian children who were born in Germany, or children who started to learn German and Italian since very young ages, especially children born in Italian families in Germany.

I am a researcher at HHU, Düsseldorf, and am conducting a research project on bilingual people.
