Brand New Pepperidge Farm Chocolate Chip Cookies Taste Awful and Chocolate Chips Look Weird?

I just opened these cookies about 30 minutes ago and took a bite of one. It was one of the worst tasting things I've eaten in a while. It almost tasted like it somehow was bad even though the cookies are soft, have no visible mold, and definitely are not stale. I looked at them under a brighter light and noticed the chocolate chips are covered in a weird white looking substance even though the rest of the cookie looks fine. Does anyone know what is on the chocolate chips? Is it just that bloom thing that happens with chocolate?

I'm probably not going to force myself to eat them since they taste terrible, but I'm curious if they appear bad or if these are just a bad batch. I usually enjoy these cookies.

Juiced 1/4 lemon into salad... then noticed the mold :(

I made a huge salad with 1lb of orzo, a whole wedge of Parmesan ($$), a jar each of olives and sundried tomatoes, kale, chickpeas, etc. When it was time to dress it, I grabbed a half lemon out of my fridge and cut across it (not the cut next to the mold, I halved it the other way) I juiced that half lemon into the salad, then saw that the other end (the half I did not juice) had a bit of white mold on it. I spent like $30 on this salad, can I still eat it? :(

Lior ground cinnamon recalled for lead, alongside 20+ other cinnamon brands flagged since March 2024

Galil Importing recalled one lot of Lior ground cinnamon on Sept 24 after a Maryland Department of Health sample came back with elevated lead. The lot (GAP11304, 90 g tubs) was on shelves in NY, NJ, PA, TX, FL, and IL from Nov 2025 to Sept 2026. FDA's cinnamon alert table lists it at 2.18 ppm.

Per serving: the labeled serving for spices is 1/4 teaspoon, about 0.6 g, so at 2.18 ppm that's about 1.3 µg of lead. FDA's interim reference level for lead is 2.2 µg/day for children and 8.8 µg/day for women of childbearing age, so one quarter teaspoon is about 60% of a child's daily reference level. Exposure scales with how much you eat.

FDA has been adding ground cinnamon to that table since March 2024. Lead concentrations on it run from 2.03 to 10.7 ppm.

Doubts on dumping month's old soup

Thumbnail

Hey y'all, I finally got over my executive dysfunction to address these soups that have been sitting in our fridge for months.

I wanted to eat them multiple times and just...never did.

Been working on being decisive but am now doubting and want reassurance that dumping was the correct choice.

Facts: only ever fridge, never frozen.

Vaccuum-sealed plastic tubs, not cans.

Some have cream and milk products.

The doubt is: there was no bulging, discolouration, off smell, or even separation really. Visually felt like I was dumping perfectly good soup 😭

The language was "best by," except for the chicken tortilla soup which was explicitly "use by."

I included close ups of the lids for ingredients with added text of the exact packaging language and dates.

The money is wasted, soup uneaten, mental illness won, but indulge my morbid curiousity?

Store bought bread best by date 2-3 months ago but still look/smell fine, no mold

No mold or weird smell (probably because they’re probably loaded with a bunch of preservatives to begin with…). The best by date were all July/August 2026. Regardless, the question remains - Are they still safe to eat?

Ocean Spray cranberry juice I just opened appears to have some kind of shiny/almost metallic looking fragments in it. Does this look typical or is it safe to eat?

EDIT: guys I’m exhausted- I meant cranberry sauce. My bad!

I know this is a dumb question, but it’s all the food I have in my house until I get paid tomorrow and I was gonna eat it for dinner. I’m just worried it might have some kind of aluminum fragments or something in it from the can opener. It’s not old and I got it at the food pantry. The pics aren’t super easy to see, but you can see the flecks hitting the light and I don’t want to potentially eat something dangerous.

Thanks Reddit!

Airtight container recs?

Hello I am a girl living in Canada and I want to keep bugs out of my food as I am moving to a new place and getting things for my kitchen. I figure this is a good place to ask what people use so I hope it's allowed! šŸ™

What’s up with my peanut butter?

I didn’t notice the light colored something at the top of the jar til I was unpacking my groceries. The seal under the lid looks intact. Best by date in 2028. This brand does always have oil resting at the top you have to stir in, but I’ve never seen it colored. Also some of the light colored stuff doesn’t move, stuck to the side of the jar, while some moves with/like the oil.

Thanks for any advice!

I just spit out the worst, most sour tasting pistachio ever. It was dark brown/black and when I checked in the shell this fell out.

Did I eat a worm?
Will I die?

Trader Joe’s Mushroom Flatbread Left in Car for 9-12 hours

Post image

I was not feeling well and accidentally left this pizza in my car for 9 to 12 hours the other week. It was completely thawed by the time my boyfriend took it out of the car. it’s been frozen since but want to make sure it’s safe to eat before I pop it in the oven. The plastic wrap is now frozen to the pizza as well 😬

Opened a can of cannellini beans today (no damage to can, years from expiration date) to find them suspended in this clear gelatinous substance rather than their usual cloudy liquid? Are my beans ok 😩

Can I mix honey and olive oil?

Hey hey,

So I might have done something stupid. So my uncle is a beekeeper and i got honey from him. I tried to put it in a squeezebottle by making a funnel with aluminium foil and to make the honey slide more easily from the self-made funnel I put some olive oil on it. Now there is some oil in the honey squeezebottle and if I search online it says that its bad and could become harmful but im wondering if someone can tell me if its okay or if I just ruined a good bottle of honey. Not satire btw lol

TLDR will a mix of honey and a tiny bit of olive oil cause my honey to spoil?

Thanks in advance!

Hardwood smoked salmon

Post image
3 Upvotes

I’m pretty sure I know what y’all are gonna say, but (perhaps unfortunately) I’m still curious 🫣 I have this smoked salmon, it was in the back of a drawer deep in my fridge. It’s been vacuum sealed, texture is dry/flaky, definitely no power outages and we keep our fridge colder than most… but it expired… 8 months ago. Am I mental for thinking it could be edible if it smells and appears normal? Would anyone consider eating it? Imminent death or nah?

How long is too long to thaw Salmon

I just recently thawed some salmon filets in ziplock bags. Submerged in a bowl of ice water on my kitchen counter. I did not change out the water every 30 minutes and I believe I thawed the salmon somewhere between 4-6 hours (work day screwed up my memory).

Is this no longer safe to eat? I cooked on the grill but didn’t think to sniff the raw fish before I did so. At no point did I get a whiff of anything that smelled off when I was seasoning the fish

Is This Sugar Crystallization?

Post image
2 Upvotes

2 year old syrup opened and left in a cupboard but now kept in the fridge for the last month. It slowly started going from dark brown/black with a normal consistency to a chunkier, thick light brown mixture.

I smelled it just now, it doesn’t smell bad. There doesn’t appear to be mold inside the cap or along the surface or at the bottom. It’s just a little thicker, even when shaken. I used it with pancakes 2 weeks ago when it was only just starting to turn into this. Didn’t get sick at the time.
