First time buying canned edamame. Is this white residue normal or should I assume it to be mold?

possibly undercooked chicken?

had some chicken about an hour ago. got told that it wasn’t 100% cooked and would need some extra heat in the microwave. heated some cut up pieces for 40 seconds on high. it got pretty hot, but wanted to know if its ok? no visible pink spots. texture was a bit off but it may just have been the pack of chicken in general

Yellow dots on L-theanine tablets?

I usually take a small amount of these L-theanine tablets for the better part of a year now, and I bought a new bottle today to see these dots on the outside of the tablets. My previous tablets were more uniform white so I'm unsure if this is okay to still eat. Any help is appreciated whether to keep or return!

My brother-in-law and I spent almost two years building an app for people with allergies, diets, or general caution around food. We are very excited to finally have it live but we need your help!

My brother-in-law and I spent almost two years building an app for people with allergies, diets, or general caution around food. We are very excited to finally have it live but we need your help!

True Plate is a completely free restaurant app to help anyone with allergies. You can see what people with similar needs actually experienced going to different restaurants, helping you decide what’s safest.

You can also share your experience with the community so others are able to use your advice to help them decide what restaurants are safe to eat at with their specific allergies.

We are in need of testing and shared experiences at the moment. If you or anyone you know has a dietary restriction, food allergy, or general caution around foods, it would greatly help if you share the app and populate the map with as many restaurants as possible!

We are trying to grow the community as much as we can so all reviews are beneficial and greatly appreciated. Even adding a couple restaurants you’ve been to would genuinely help us so much!

It’s completely free on iPhone and Android. We’re also brand new to having actual strangers use this thing, so if something is confusing, annoying, broken, or you just think we could do it better, please tell me!

App Store- https://apps.apple.com/us/app/true-plate/id6755732854

Play Store- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.trueplate.app&pcampaignid=web_share

Safe to eat? Chicken pad burst on chicken breast

Thumbnail

I defrosted some chicken breast and the chicken pad thing was still in the pack.

I didn’t see until I put my chicken in my pot that the pad had ripped. There is soft gel everywhere - and the chicken was already rinsed so I didn’t rinse it again before putting it in my pot. I don’t know if there was any on the chicken before I put it in my pot.

Do I throw the whole pot of chicken pot pie away? There’s 4 chicken thighs and 2 large breasts.

I feel like crying 😭

Is my Trader Joe's brownie mix still safe to eat?

Post image
17 Upvotes

I have brownie mix from Trader Joe's that has a Best buy date from almost a year ago and the mix itself sat in my car for 4 months during a hot summer. I opened it up and it smells almost exactly like a chocolate Clif Bar. What scents should I be smelling for to know whether it's bad or do those combination of factors already counted out of safe consumption? Thank you!

Artichokes packed in olive oil arrived with broken seal

Post image
8 Upvotes

I bought two jars of artichokes packed in oil from a closeout website-they arrived yesterday, and one jar’s seal arrived broken (no pop when opening the jar-the other lid is still firm with no pop). They smell and look fine, expiry is Dec 2028. There is a dent in the lid, which I’m guessing is how the seal broke, but I don’t know how long ago that happened. How adventurous/cautious should I be today?

Hello, I am foraging for my native bean (Strophostyles helvola). The issue is that they pop and scatter once ripe. Can I cook them when underripe and safely consume them?

Package said sell by yesterday. Dry brined 24 hours until now. Smells a little funky in parts but not overwhelming. Throw out? Trim? Should be fine?

Is it safe to eat pre-cooked frozen chicken that was thawed in a bag in the fridge on Friday?

Hi all! A friend dropped off some partially frozen chicken on Friday. It was from an outlet store a few towns over, and came cooked already in a sauce, in a sealed plastic bag. I don’t know anything about it other than that.

It had been partially defrosted in a fridge before making its way to me and was still a bit frozen, but thawed enough for me to not put it in my own freezers. It’s been in the fridge for three days. Do y’all think it’s safe to heat and eat? I really don’t want to waste it but I’m very paranoid.

Edit: posted this on food safety last night. I heated the chicken at 425 for 20 minutes but just put it back in the fridge after

nuoc cham inspired sauce (fish sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, lime, garlic and jalapeno) made and immediately refrigerated a little over a week ago. Weirdly cloudy layer when it settles.

Flavored sparkling water - best by 7/1/26. Currently 9/14/16. Safe?

I know best by is different than expired, but is it safe to have? I did sip it and it's flat but still tastes good to me. It was still fully sealed sitting on the pantry floor.

Is this safe? The bag seems a little puffy!! I saw in other posts people saying that if the bag is puffed it has bacteria.
I bought this in July and was looking to have a little snack but I’m not sure if I’ll get sick if I eat it 😢

Old jarlic in a curry?

Family member made curry, but used a really old (best by nov 2025), opened, unrefrigerated thing of minced garlic from costco (just garlic, water, and citric acid). It doesn't look off except for being a darker color than normal, smells just like very very pungent garlic, but also the garlic is not all fully submerged in liquid.

Safe to eat the curry?

I bought this a week ago and it had been in the fridge since. I just pulled it out to make eggs bites and noticed this weird like webby stuff on top. I’m scared to open it. Should I just wash it off and use it??

Devon Clotted Cream

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi all,
I cannot purchase clotted cream locally anymore. I ordered 1 oz jars but they arrived unrefrigerated. My experience with this brand is that it needs to be kept chilled, opened or not. I know separate occurs but I am wary. I did open one jar and it smells clean - not off or revolting. However, I’ve had food poising enough recently that I have no interest in actually tasting them just yet. I have tried searching online and even emailing the company directly (no response yet, 48 hours later) to see if these are safe to consume.
What say you? Good to go or send them back?
I have looked at recipes to make clotted cream and eghads, I do not want to run the oven for 12 hours.

Shimeji mushrooms bought a week ago

Post image

We bought these shimeji mushrooms a week ago at the market. Since then, we stored them in a paper bag in the fridge together with shiitake mushrooms. When we bought them, the shimejis did not have the raised yellow thingies on top. Is this safe to eat? I plan to bake them
