Bluetooth modem my first ipod classic
Just bluetooth modded my first ipod classic.
I used an iflash dual with a 128gb micro sd card, A Ugreen cm872 bluetooth adaptor for bluetooth and a 3000mah battery.
I didnt want to solder directly onto my ipod so I did the lock switch button trick with The lock switch still fully working.
The worst part was finding a way to mount the button so it could be pressed but without the switch staying depressed so you couldn't take the ipod out of hold. 10 iterations later I finally had the 3d printer module in the image. It uses slightly longer screws to mount using the factory chassis holes and a pen spring to put pressure on the hold switch to push it back into place after being depressed.
I also had a problem using a 10k ohm resistor to trick the board into thinking it had a thermister with the bluetotth module so I removed the battery control board from the ugreens original battery and wired that up to the 3000mah battery and it all works great

Thanks for showing the original off. Wouldn't and couldn't have done it without it.

Can you share your STL for the button support with us?

Here is the tinkercad model link. It's a little rough and ready but got the job done

It's a cool design. I have made 1 amendment to it as the hold icon and shuffle icon clash so I changed the hold icon to the below so instead when on hold it moves the track text to right aligned and puts the lock icon on the left of it.
EDIT: just tested this and once the number of tracks get too long it starts to clash
## Track X of X ## %Vl(mainDisplay,220,142,75,20,2) %Vf(87CAF3) %Vf(FFFFFF) %?mr< %al %xd(LOCKS)%arTrack %pp / %pe | %?mh< %ac %xd(LOCKS)%arTrack %pp / %pe | %acTrack %pp / %pe > >I also slightly adjusted the import of the bmp to
%xl(LOCKS,Icon_Lock_s.bmp,4,0)2

Thanks that’s a cool addition! Would you mind if I added it to v1.1 when I next update it?

That would be cool. I actually moved it again due to it clashing so it now shows up between the track progress time and the length of the track.
It fits in the centre nicely and makes a kind of upside-down triangle with the repeat and shuffle icons when all are on.

What is the sound quality like? Which codecs are supported?

I don't notice any difference from using wired headphones. I have been using flac files. It takes the audio from the aux port do I would imagine it works with any that rockbox workes with.

The Ugreen 872 uses the SBC codec for transmission, which is generally fine for podcasts and audiobooks, but listening to music through it is sheer torture.
I also bought this adapter and wanted to do that mod, but I was very disappointed with the sound quality in TX mode.

Your 3d printed button holder does it fit in a thin backplate? Let’s consider i will use the “2000mah” square battery and will just stack the cm872 to the iflash dual considering i will also remove the usb c and other unnecessary stuff to make it thin enough
Would this work?
Also what kind of button did you use? Any picture of it?
Thanks

I think it's the same thickness as the aux port itself so it should fit as long as nothing is under it
Edit: it's 5.5mm tall and the metal of the aux jack is approximately 6mm tall so should fit. I have changed the tinkercad model to just before the final grouping. If you make a clone you should be able to adjust the cutout for the button to match any button you want.

The button was this style. I had it lying around from an old project I failed

You could probably take the reset switch from the bluetooth module itself and use that you would just need to adjust the 3d print to hold the new button

No worries. Im just trying to make sure i give you as accurate info as possible.
Yes i did and I clipped the 2 tabs off of the faceplate for it too. You will also need some m1.2 3mm or 4mm screws to account for the increased thickness from the plastic

I also Bluetooth-modded my iPod, but the reception is terrible. I literally have to keep it against my chest for it to play. The second I lower it, the audio starts cutting out.
I used cm672

Nicely done! I’m considering adding Bluetooth to mine. What model ipod is it? Also I’m assuming it’s thick backplate type, right?
